Justify hooliganism is grossly irresponsible

211

Let’s be clear about this, footballers taking a lap of honour are not liable for hooliganism.  You know this and Police Scotland know it.  Forcing football hooligans to stay behind after a game and watch opponents celebrate, as happened when Newco visited Celtic Park earlier this season, was a poorly thought out police decision, but the police are not liable for hooliganism either.

The match superintendent’s report, made available under Freedom of Information, illustrates that forcing 800 losers watch 59,011 people celebrate is something that should have been considered prior to the match being allowed to proceed with only 800 away fans.

Losing fans at this fixture should be allowed to leave the stadium at full time.  If this cannot be accommodated with away fans getting such a small area of the stadium, away fans should be given an appropriate section of the stadium and egress areas.

This is a new problem and you know who caused it.  Give away fans appropriate egress at both stadiums and the problem goes away.

And while we’re discussing the matter, running headlines which justify hooliganism is grossly irresponsible.  You also know who staged this for the newspaper.

This is why we need to be relentless.  We need to win the League Cup and we need to rattle through the league in December.  Fight fire will irresistible football success.

    I don’t think so

I was at the game and LG did wind up the 800. Not that much but he had previous with them(corner flags etc)

I think that is what set a few of them off, certainly not all of them

The walk round by the team was not the issue as I saw it

Great post, took me back to listening to my granda Joe and my uncles discussing in a similar manner re the olde Celtic board.

As for the present board… they should be more vocal on their support for Celtic supporters.

Disabled supporters amongst the 800-strong away crowd were caught up in angry scenes as Gers fans responded to the Celtic players marking their win before making their way off the park.

    ===================================================================================

    Revised version :

Disabled RANGERS supporters were put under threat by angry RANGERS supporters.

And it`s all the fault of Celtic players.

Thank you , Brendan for putting that little distortion to rest.

  4. Re the eight HUNdred tickets for Celtic fans:

If the fans go ,make sure all phones are fully charged, and needless to say,in working order.

Celtic football club have agreed, with sevco and police, that plans are in order for fans safe passage to and from the ground.

If Celtic FC do not accept their allocation then refuse this lot entry in the following league game.

  5. Ta sipsini.

I am sure back in Edwardian times when Celtic played at clune park versus port Glasgow athletic that the original Irish Higgins in the town was shouting

    Sack the board. Politely.

  6. On a few occasions going to ipox it was with hospitality.

We went to the kerrydale had breakfast then bussed over and back.

With only 800 tickets, it makes me wonder if this is still the case as there was quite a few buses put on!

  7. Celtic and Sevco both used the same tactic at their respective AGM’s imo. Both deliberately made comment about the ticket issue knowing full well that this would dominate the media coverage and everything else would be forgotten. Thousands and thousands of supporters on both sides have fallen for it hook line and sinker. The sad truth is that both sets of supporters cannot get enough of hating each other and/or arguing with each other. The idea that there is no Old Firm is a fantasy. It is most definitely alive and well.

Sevco are such a joke it is scarcely believable. Sadly, my fear is inevitably they will end up dragging us down to their level. We have already been caught hook line and sinker having been drawn into this carry on. Our Board must act now to end this farce and start leading by example rather than sitting back and cashing in on the bigot buck.

” Celtic and Sevco both used the same tactic at their respective AGM’s imo “.

One`s as bad as the other ?

    You think ?

News management ? You may be right.

May I ask : What is the ” everything else ” that our Board would like us to forget.

IMHO The ethos of the Celtic Board is that they refuse to be dragged down to the level of the hun mob.

In spite of the desperation of some of our fellow Tims that they allow themselves do so.

Very sorry to hear of your friend Annette passing. Your compassion and care shone through brightly, and is a credit to you and Joan. Jorge will be well looked after I have no doubt. HH

Why would they, money is the only thing they care about, to think they will do anything that is remotely ethical is deluding yourself.

I agree they should, but there is not a hope in hell.

  11. WITS, WTF did Ballybrack think they were doing . Brendan Behan used to say if you were telling a lie tell a big one. But Holy God who thought up that one.

Our Board lowered themselves to tit for tat with a career criminal and other shysters the minute they responded to the initial Sevco statement. It was imo an epic mistake. Lest we forget it almost ended in disaster at Celtic park in September as innocent supporters tried to enter the stadium. The nonsense needs to end before someone gets seriously hurt.

Can`t argue about the failure to protect our supporters at that game.

However , not sure to what extent the Board can be blamed .

    Police Scotland ?

  14. Just in case Bhoys on here don’t know what we are talking about. Ballybrack falsified the death of one of their players. Said the Boy was killed in a motor bike accident after training,

They did it to get a match postponed. The lad himself was a Spanish lad who returned to Spain a few weeks ago.

The right decision by the Board .

    Independent ( we hope ) enquiry .

I do not believe it can be truly ‘Independent’ if you’re paying for it but I’m trying to keep an open mind. At the last Fans Forum meeting our Head of Security and Operations Ronnie Hawthorn, who is usually present was absent as the matter was due to be discussed. Rather coincidental.

  18. Just watched Rod Stewart end his 2012 Christmas Concert in LA by cycling away in his no.10 Celtic Top. Bet oor Antony was pleased wi that. HH

  19. WITS: I heard about the Damien Duff story yesterday. It appears he did go for the job but whether he got it or not I don’t know. Heard it from Shamrock Rovers source where he returned to as an under age coach only recently.

  20. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

The Celtic board, in the past, worked with Sevco (and Rangers previously) to agree ticket allocations.

    “Terrible. Old Firm, old firm”

    Sevco unilaterally slashed our allocation.

    After consideration, our board reciprocate.

    “Terrible, tit for tat”

Police Scotland’s match day plan prioritises the safety of 800 to the detriment of 59,000.

“Terrible, our board are equally responsible”

Our board initiate an independent review of safety

    “Terrible, it won’t be independent”.

Our host has a favourite two word phrase which describes the human condition of bending or prioritising facts to fit a belief system.

I’ve seen plenty of evidence tonight.

    Hail hail
