Juve let heart rule the head

430

Were you impressed by how smartly Juventus opened last night, pressing Barcelona into conceding a corner?  It was an ambitious opening.  In the days after we beat Barcelona in 2012 one journalist took all sorts of abuse online for recoiling against the suggestion Celtic put on a ‘brave’ performance.

He conceded Celtic’s was a brilliant performance, but defending your 18 yard line was more sensible than brave.  What Juventus did last night, pressing Barcelona, leaving space at the back, was brave.  It was foolish too.

Juventus are a remarkable team and have just completed one of the best seasons in their history.  They had a right to think they could have a go at Barcelona.  They came close too, for a while after they equalised Barca were penned back, but the game turned when Lionel Messi found 50 yards of space ahead of him.  You can’t leave Messi with that sort of freedom.

Three minutes into the game Juventus fans would have been encouraged, they had already forced Barca back and made an attempt at goal but the cost of all this expansionism was space in their own box.  Even this great Juventus team should have gone into yesterday’s game knowing their limitations.

If they played within them, were they good enough to sneak a win against Barcelona?  Quite possibly.

My sister was assured,a few years back, that her purchase had only one previous owner. Turned out to be a rental company.

    Arnold Clark,btw.

    ===

My own experience of Arnold Clark was not good. Recently looking for a newish ‘landie’ Freelander 2 using ‘she who must be obeyed’ very low mileage excellent condition Rav 4 plus cash deal. Arnold Clark offered less in exchange than even ‘we buy any car’ and theirs’ was very derisory offer. AC salesman tried to tell me they would have difficulty moving the Toyota which I knew was utter B/S and told him he was talking out his ar*e. When in the busy packed showroom I informed him, in my loudest voice, that I thought he was a ‘bandit’ and that he was at it as even ‘we buy any car’ were prepared to offer more than AC. The guys face actually went bright red with embarrassment. Long story short – week later travelled to a wee independent 4×4 dealer based in Birnam. We got market exchange value for the Rav 4 plus an extended warranty for the Newish Freelander. The Rav was on sale for 1 week before the dealer sold it for a healthy mark up. My advice – if buying a car stay well clear of Arnold Clark and be prepared to travel to find a good deal.

On football related matters how bad was the game this afternoon – a bore fest of the 1st order.

  7. Gerry.. I played for Milngavie for a season too. Alan Durrant was there that season and in my opinion, a fantastic team mate and a genuinely good bloke. Rangers through and through he was but then we all have our faults :)

  8. What about Barrowfield Training ground

just along from Celtic Park.I’ve said a few times on here Celtic should have redeveloped there couple of stands up to date changing rooms etc.but as usual that mob that’s running our club.don’t like a lot of things. don’t have that imagination.

Mihajlovic the player had a long history of losing it on the pitch – assaults / arguments / temper tantrums / racism and the politics/ national issues of Yugoslavia . Big scenes with Stimac / Viera and Seedorf etc..A serial spitter.

Mihajlovic the Manager has a long history of losing it with players ( his own / other clubs ) , other Managers / Club owners / Directors, the media etc..

No great affection for St Mirren…their chairman seems too close to matters Sevco for my liking

I could not agree with you more, but that will change if they keep sevco down, as it did with Motherwell…!!!

Incidentally, all gone quiet on Shame Game 2…..bless them !!!!!!!

  13. Mihajlovic – the player – had a great left foot.

But not as good as Naka’s.

    Well-known racist.

    Mihajlovic that is, not Naka.

  14. RIP Colin Jackson

You will be remembered with affection by our side of the Glasgow divide for scoring one of our more important goals with an assist from big McCloy and a wee contribution from George McCluskey beforehand.

He was unlucky to miss out on their ECWC trophy win but he did earn 8 Scotland caps.

  15. Gerry.. you probably remember a guy Clarkey, sure he played at CCC around the same time. played up front and also played at Wanderers when I was there. He was a fantastic footballer.

  16. HH all,

I must say I thought the referee yesterday was a joke! reminded me of the WC final ref in 2012 Howard Pleb, who spoiled the game and totally got many decisions wrong! But happy Barca won and got the treble. Cheers to all and hope we can get a good run in the CL next season and Ronny gets the recruits he needs to build a solid challenge! HH
