Juve let heart rule the head

Were you impressed by how smartly Juventus opened last night, pressing Barcelona into conceding a corner?  It was an ambitious opening.  In the days after we beat Barcelona in 2012 one journalist took all sorts of abuse online for recoiling against the suggestion Celtic put on a ‘brave’ performance.

He conceded Celtic’s was a brilliant performance, but defending your 18 yard line was more sensible than brave.  What Juventus did last night, pressing Barcelona, leaving space at the back, was brave.  It was foolish too.

Juventus are a remarkable team and have just completed one of the best seasons in their history.  They had a right to think they could have a go at Barcelona.  They came close too, for a while after they equalised Barca were penned back, but the game turned when Lionel Messi found 50 yards of space ahead of him.  You can’t leave Messi with that sort of freedom.

Three minutes into the game Juventus fans would have been encouraged, they had already forced Barca back and made an attempt at goal but the cost of all this expansionism was space in their own box.  Even this great Juventus team should have gone into yesterday’s game knowing their limitations.

If they played within them, were they good enough to sneak a win against Barcelona?  Quite possibly.

Thanks buddy, fully recovered. What a painful experience that was. The worse pain imaginable. I just feel a bit alienated on the blog now. I know I don’t participate every day, but one day off, and you appear to be a stranger. A wee bit worrying! Hope you are well my friend. :-))

Judester, Kevin Bridges has just done a Podcast with Graham Hunter, the most knowledgable and interesting football writer from Scotland. Those balloons on shortbread (Jim Spence apart) and SBB know hee haw in relation to Graham.

He does Sky’s Revista De La Liga show. He’s an Aberdeen fan but lives in Spain a good part of the year.

Didn’t know that Hunter was an Aberdeen supporter. I like him. He’s knowledgeable and eloquent when talking about football and it has been in my head wondering who he supported.

Ivorian keeper has actually kept the score down although is a bombscare. Good football being played and the odd flash of back protector. I’m hooked.

Dalziel’s first wife was a neighbour of my mine, very nice woman. Tragically she died of cancer last year. I worked with his cousin, she was one of the biggest tims you’ll ever meet. Gordon’s mother was a Tim, I bet he didn’t mention that in the dressing room.

Graham Fyfe also reckoned being married to a Catholic led to him being shown the door at the death star.

A snippet from deadclubmedia on the “glib & shameless liar ” JETTING :)) in tonight.

“The current Board are obviously comfortable that they have the financial resources to keep the club afloat despite what I imagine to be roughly half a million a month losses. Everything was dependent upon which league you found yourself in – on that you determine your budgets and it sets the seal on how attractive the club is to potential managers and players.

    Good Evening CQN

Sitting this evening, looking into a beautiful Glasgow evening, with one daughter in Salamanca and my lad having fun with his pals today . The younger daughter survived the rain drenched Giffnock football festival of yesterday and sat watching movies with me today. Today was better, weatherwise for the kids at the festival, thank goodness and I then turn to facebook and watch how Wee Shay bhoy and his young family are enjoying their young lives without a care or complaint and I know I am in a good place with you bhoys and ghirls who take the time to not only care but also donate monies that can be tough in todays time

    God Bless you all

No but we do have people who’re more interested in self gain, some who know very little of the value and history of our club and some who care little for the people who pay to watch every week.

West Highland Way Challenge in aid of Mary’s Meals

A big thank you from John and Mark who completed the challenge a little while ago.

They were bitterly disappointed in having to stop yesterday afternoon, however the conditions were atrocious and both were in a pretty desperate shape.

Today’s break in the weather gave them a chance to complete the challenge and try and keep the actual run time to sub 24 hours, which I’m happy to say they achieved coming home in 23hrs 14mins

Mary’s meals have benefited to the tune of £14k thanks to the generosity of all the sponsors. So once again on behalf of everyone involved many thanks,
