Juve think they got a lucky draw but are scared of Celtic Park

1106

Juventus’ closest journalist gave their fans a preview of what The Old Lady can expect next week.  Apparently, Juve were lucky drawing Celtic, who are not the same as the team who beat them 4-3 11 seasons ago (but didn’t qualify for the knock out stage).

The outcome of the second leg is a formality, but Celtic Park has them spooked:

“Juventus got a benign [Champions League] draw, even lucky.

“The Bhoys are not the same team who beat Juventus 4-3 a few years ago.  They have a few gems, like [Tony] Watt, but bet everything on physical and dead-ball football.  Celtic Park is absolutely extraordinary, it goes beyond what you can write, read or tell.  What you see on television is not even the smallest part of what you endure in the flesh, 60,000 people do not offend you but make you know you are in the enemy camp.

“The Park is one of the most influential and dangerous stages in the world.  It has everything to challenge you, to induce the classic ‘bad day’, to give you stomach cramps and the need to get out as soon as possible.  The fact Celtic beat Barcelona there was not random.

“Common sense suggests Celtic cannot beat Barcelona but football said different.  They did with merit, playing beyond their means and with a little luck.  This is what Juventus will need to be wary of.

“Antonio Conte will hammer into his players not to underestimate their opponents, but for once it is not the team, it’s the stadium the need to worry about.

“Forget folklore images of children wearing green and white scarves, or of fans coming out of Scottish pubs and going to the game by finishing a beer and ordering another.  Don’t let the chorus of ‘You’ll never walk alone’ charm you if you have not heard it with your own ears.  To watch from your HD TV is one thing, be there for 90 minutes, start to finish, ever if you’re winning, is different.

“Celtic are different than usual teams.  Juventus fans, if they behave the way they should and live this adventure the right way, will have a great experience.  The Juventus Stadium can be a bit like Celtic Park.  We Italians miss their culture, their history, their being able to accept any defeat and celebrate every possible outcome, accepting any opponent.  Their team will be sacred of Juventus but their stadium and fans will not say the same thing.”

We’ll play our part on Tuesday but I am sure Neil Lennon and his players will be pleased to hear they are considered something of a sideshow.  The victory over Barcelona was a magnificent but it was achieved as a result of a tactical master-plan, nothing less. It’s the men in green and white hoops Juve need to watch.

It’s not really. It’s quite common for somebody trying to sell a big chunk of shares to be offered a price below the bid. It won’t necessarily drive the whole price down as it’s considered out of the ordinary. If lots of people were suddenly trying to offload large volumes, then that would drive it down.

    The market makers are:

    Cenkos Securities Ltd

    Liberum Capital Ltd

    Peel Hunt LLP

    Shore Capital Stockbrokers Ltd

    Winterflood Securities Ltd

I agree that it’s nonsense that the price is still higher than launch given the ratio of sells to buys but I doubt it’s a conspiracy as such. They’ll just be going on what was presented at the IPO regarding assets etc.

Finally they have got it right! They have realised that they were not “relegated” but have infact “risen” from nowhere to Division 3.

Pretty sure reports suggest it was for sourcing “seed money”

If for the share issue,it is unlikely to be overdue by a sufficient period to warrant WUO proceedings.

Happy to be proven wrong,as ever, though!

  10. The Italian reporter is spot on, if Juve handle Celtic Park, they’ll be well on their way. I’ll go to my grave convinced that Barca were spooked the night we beat them. I’ve never seen Xavi miss control a ball like he did to let Tony through on goal. You won’t see that again. Celtic Park has the capacity to make great players make basic mistakes.

I’m hoping for a win on Tuesday and regardless of what happens in Turin, a win on Tuesday will be a great result, worthy of celebration in itself.

  11. weeminger, Do you think a Trade of 18 Shares is genuine, you know yourself that the minimum cost of this Trade would be greater then the value of the Shares.

Juve do indeed have a tough game tomorrow against Fiorentina.

No love lost between the 2 – largely stemming from the sale of Roberto Baggio to Juve in 1990, who was quoted at the time saying that he did not want to leave. There were riots in Florence, and he refused to take a penalty against his former club – as he left the field after being substituted he picked up a Fiorentina scarf and kissed it.

Fiorentina’s young coach, Vincenzo Montella, is also no fan of Juve having come to prominence as a player with Roma. He is also from Naples – Juve’s closest pursuers in Serie A.

    Fiorentina WILL ‘get stuck in’.

    HH!!

    …………………………………………

More due to the fact that Juventus stole the title from Fiorentina in 1982, when Fiorentina had a good goal disallowed against Cagliari and Juventus got a dodgy penalty against Catanzaro to win the league. I’ll be watching tomorrow at 6.00pm and hoping that Montella’s lads get stuck right into them. Problem is Fiorentina’s record in Turin is woeful. Two wins in the last 26 years.

If you look through the history of the trades there’s ones listed for less than that. Not sure if those are dummy trades getting recorded incorrectly.

There are trading services out there that let you trade for as little as a £5, and many others that are subscription based with no one-time charge. So you could in theory still gain from such a small trade but I can’t imagine why anyone doing it, unless they were testing the market.

  17. weeminger, I have to believe its a couple of insiders making an artificial Trade at 4 or 5 pence above the last genuine one in an effort to keep the price up. If the great unwashed see the Share Price come back to close on Issue Price there could be a rush to offload and we could see prices tumble to 30 or 40 pence which is probably nearer their true value.

  18. Hun on FF wants own newspaper – ‘The We Are The People’:

‘A genuine daily newspaper for the people,by the people

Imagine we could print our own newspaper,no im not talking about the rangers news,im talking about a publication through print that would carry everything Rangers on the back pages which the club wouldnt have to pay for ( interviews, pics) and the other everyday newsworthy articles on the front and in between,if you add in an advertising section it could be very lucrative,i know for a fact if it was on a shelf i’d buy it ,its only because there is nothing else to choose when you in a newsagents, there is NO alternative of course apart from not buy the rhebel etc etc

Some guys need their fix of print in the morning.

Okay sounds a bit too disney world,a bit dreamy,BUT not impossible,a newspaper that carries all Rangers related filling the back, normal stories on the front and inbetween,an advertising section ,and an attractive price ( 20p ? )

It’s not as black and white as that. Marca, knowing what side it’s bread is buttered favours Real Madrid. If the boycott is effective, an enterprising publication, the evening times?, (tims–I know) perhaps could make a killing by favouring the club thereby picking up the lost readers.

A pipe dream, probably but also maybe not that ridiculous idea. Rangers supporters are still scotlands majority public grouping.’

Certainly wouldn’t be any ‘normal stories’ on the back pages.
