Juxtaposition of Keane with wannabes elsewhere

Worst Rangers [sic]team in history?
Check.

Worst Rangers [sic]chief executive in history?
Check.

Worst Rangers [sic]fans in history?
Oh, please.  They have played their part to perfection.

Worst Rangers [sic]manager in history?
Who, Ally the Great Enabler?  No way.

Charles Green would not have any authority at Ibrox if Ally McCoist didn’t act as his enabler last year.  While every Celtic fan with a keyboard was typing “Can they really be so stupid again?” Ally was cutting a deal for almost 5% of the share capital of the company [sic].  None of this would be possible without Ally.  If you see him, buy him a pie.

The juxtaposition was pointed out to me:

19 years after John Keane stepped forward with an amount of money very precious to him..

With no guarantee it would solve our problems…

Or that he would see a penny of it again (for the record, he hasn’t, and he is unlikely to)…

A very different history played out across the city.

Today’s Herald told us the group trying to overthrow the Sevco board contains Jim McColl and that, “McColl is one of Scotland’s richest people, but he won’t spend his own money”.

The world is full of rich men who will not spend their own money.  Long may they squabble over the Ibrox debris.

Our honorary chairman, John Keane, waved to the Celtic Park crowd before letting the league flag fly high, a direct consequence of putting his money where his mouth was.

John Keane paid the £1m about six years after Celtic fans started to get organised against the board that was ruining our club.

Had the Celtic support stood back and ignored the incompetence of the old board no one would even have been in a position to save the day.

The Huns, or at least some of them, had concerns over how Murray was running their club as far back as the mid-90s – had they organised themselves they would have saved their club long before the debt spiralled out of control.

  2. South of Tunis,

I too saw that Feijenoord v AC Milan game. Van Hanegem was absolutely brilliant.

I and another Scot tried to get to Mr Stein when he came over to watch Feijenoord play Ajax to let him know that Feijenoord were a very good side. Unfortunately, we never got near him, although how much valuable information we could have given him, I don’t really know.

  3. The question remains, where were these would be ‘saviors’ when the assets were going for a few million ? Ultimately, Greengo put his or to be more precise, other people’s money where his mouth was – the blue knights didn’t or couldn’t.

  4. Many of us pledged large sums of money to save Rangers, sometimes under several different names. Is it our fault that they never followed up and the club went bust??

Perhaps it’s time for another whip round over Ibrox way?

I was only a kid at the final but I’d been to quite a few games before. I was at every game (at home) on the road to Lisbon and I was at every game (at home) on the road to Milan, every one of those games I never thought we’d lose. They only time I ever feared losing was Milan and to this day I don’t know why.

Do you remember the chaos after the game with the air traffic controllers strike? One of my brothers and a couple of my dads mates had to be flown home to Glasgow from Amsterdam. We had a few Dutchmen on our flight back to Glasgow.

But do you know what never gets a mention… ever, we lost that final, the next day we shared an airport with all the Feyenoord supporters, flights were delayed for hour upon hour or just cancelled, both sets of supporters mingled freely and not once was there a hint of animosity or trouble. It was a sore one for us but we took it well and took our hurt home with us.

  7. The reason McColl (has he got a mullet btw ?)is rich is because he doesn’t spend his own money ! But everything’s ok, somebody else will sort it out, we will live beyond our means, we can be the best forever, we can magic our way out if this, we are the people after all so it has to be that way.

At least allee put his own money in, for every 2.5 % of share capital he has Forfar will score 1 goal !

  8. Great article and tribute to true legend John Keane.

Walter, Jim McColl & Co remind me of the bloke/bird in the pub (we all know one) who will take drink off others all night — conveniently be in the toilets when last orders are called — then feign disappointment that they can’t buy us all a drink.

The other tactics are: the forgotten wallet, the hole in the pocket, the wrong credit card, etc etc.

God bless John Keane and all of the others who chipped in money that they couldn’t afford to ensure the legend that is Celtic lives on.

Pleasure to meet you yesterday and thank you so much for the use of your ticket.

  11. So according to the Sevco cheer leader @stvgrant all clubs can liquidate and keep league share and continue as before.

Right Mr Brennan get on the phone to PL and tell him no more worrying about balancing the books.

Spend spend spend and once we have our dream team we can liquidate the holding company rob creditors and boom we keep our history and our dream team.

    Right who wants Messi ?

  12. Milan- Yeah I was there, brilliant time was had by all. My mate and I drove in his beat up CitroenDS which was a cylinder down after about 20 miles too. We slept at a campsite and drank with the Italian guys who swore their allegiance to Celtic. No doubt they’d have changed sides by the end of the game.!!

I too remember the craic with the Dutch fans after the game and had a great laugh while sick inside, but not a bit of trouble anywhere. Very fond memories indeed.

  16. Most of you guys are way older than me. How feared were Celtic in the golden period? SOT did the Italians fear Celtic when we played the Milan teams after 67?Also did any of you attend games v Dynamo Kiev? We defeated them 3-0 in 66 I think. I have a big interest in Russian football.

  17. South Of Tunis on

    A Stor Mo Chroi @ 14 24 .

    I hitched from London .

There was a lot of strikes etc in Italy at the time . At one point , the final was under threat and the relevant authorities had to advise the Italian authorities that if the game didn’t go ahead then Italian Clubs would be banned from Europe…

I went to Lisbon in 67 thinking Celtic had a right good chance of winning . I went to Milan thinking Celtic had a right good chance of losing . I was even stevens about Seville and was hoping that with Henrik anything was possible. !

  18. I was lucky, flying into Milan from Belgium, we landed and flew back from Linate. It wasn’t nearly as bad as Malpensa. My mate and I had the bitter sweet pleasure of sharing the departure lounge with the Feijenoord players, holding the black box containing their Big Cup.

A belated thanks to the staff at the airport terminal in Milan city itself, who allowed us to kip there for a couple of hours, when it should have been closed.

You are absolutely correct. If what is being reported is correct, this needs to be nipped in the bud.

This would make a mockery of any kind of fair play if true. You have to wonder if they know what’s going to happen to Sevco. There seems to be a “earth is flat” mentality that the game here NEEDS them.

the beeb are the same along with the red tops and the herald and the radio channels too

in short all the media in scotland believe the holding company myth

ie a fitba club can never go bankrupt only the parent comapny can

and that its quite alright to ditch all the debt and carry on regardless preferably in the same league with the same players at the same park and a very similar name
