The players have let us down tonight. They were largely a disgrace, Scales, Murray and Donovan apart.
The Board will immediately move on. They budget for the Europa League and will immediately move into their marketing groove selling us their latest pish. We’re their cash cow. Forget the Champions League. Too financially risky to gamble on. We’re their sure things.
There will no acknowledgement of the collective failure of tonight. Nothing to see here will be adopted. Time will pass, disappointment will fade and money will be made by marketing the Celtic schmaltz they know we we can’t resist.
All will be forgiven unless the dreaded hun overtakes us.

A really painful loss today. I didn’t see the first half, but I thought our opponents expertly closed us down when needed throughout the second half. The seemed to be able to sense when a Celtic player was unsure of what to do, and all of a sudden there were 2 or 3 players on him. The obvious problem was the slow speed of play – we were just not at the races. Despite that, we had good chances to score and restricted them to virtually nothing in front of goal. The fact they had nothing going forward made it all the more painful and will be the reason they fail to do anything in the group phase.
Let’s see what the Europa draw brings our way.

I’d like to give you a financial perspective on the board. I’ve been a Celtic fan for over 60 years. I’ve been a Chartered Accountant for 41 years, and the U.S equivalent, a Certified Public Accountant, for 33 years.
Lawwell is an accountant, as is Chris McKay.
It’s important to understand their professional mindset. They have been trained and educated to be pessimistic about the future. It’s usually a welcome attribute in all accountants, necessary to counter the often pie in the sky, sometimes delusional, over optimism of the owners that employ them. We have been trained to hope for the best but to always plan for the worst, to question and challenge forecasts and budgets and the assumptions on which they are based.
That is why DD put them in position, and that is why there is all that money in the bank. DD likely never wants to write a check to cover any shortfall and he has likely made that clear to PL and CM.
This philosophy is so ingrained that it cannot be changed.
Of course when it gets excessive it can become detrimental to an organization and that is what is now happening at Celtic. The only way out of it is to have owners that loosen the purse strings, but that too comes with danger if uncontrolled.
We, the fans, are in a tough spot. We want to spend, but the owner and his accountants are unlikely to do so.

No it hasn’t because they’ll still sell tickets and turnover money in the EL, they don’t care which competition it comes from just keep it coming in, someone blogged earlier that the 40m turnover would have sat in the bank, it would have ,now they can sit on another 15 to 20 if the support buys tickets, accountants doing what they do and that is the issue at Celtic ,it won’t change until the first team is the priority.

Can someone tell me why it is acceptable for a Celtic manager to lose its biggest games if the season to a club with a budget the size of Livingston. All he does is talk down his squad. No wonder they go out and play like frightened rabbits. Thus is on him and HIS recruitment guy.
————————————————-/-
Remarkable garbage as usual. Not without fault I agree but what you say is just not true. You are a Trump- Farage type character that continues to repeat the same mistruth until it becomes almost fact. BR has NEVER undermined his squad he has constantly praised them and that is a fact. He has constantly been asked about recruitment by media and he has answered like all managers do by saying we would like a few new face in, add some freshness, couple of quality additions. Two things – what is he meant to say? Stay silent? Refuse to answer the questions? Say our squad is amazing we don’t need any new blood? Also can you point me in the direction of a manager who during the transfer window or any other time has not wanted to add some additional quality to their squad?
You can’t be taken seriously as you offer no balance – you hate BR and that’s all that matters.
Last night reflects badly on the whole club – that we are knocked out by such a poor outfit is embarrassing in the extreme and will do damage to our reputation for years. Despite seeing this movie multiple times we did not prepare well enough and we did not invest sufficiently to minimise the risk and that is on the board or whoever has final say on these matters. Individually and collectively the players were very poor last night. Technically they were poor but they also looked a little spooked – the conditions did not help, the altitude perhaps and the pitch was difficult for sure but same as the first leg you get the sense that they don’t buy into the ethos and lack of ambition the club has shown and I’m certain the infighting between the football and finance departments does not create the best environment.
BR intransigence in style of play is a worry. Having said that competent fit sides playing that horrible low block is a problem for most teams. There is no space and no gaps to play through and no room in behind – it is not easy. Angeball was great while it lasted but last few months of Ange was similar to this as teams changed how they played against us. It is far easier to be destructive and defensive in football than brave and inventive and that is why so called inferior teams can cause “better” so much difficulty. Our lack of movement up front is a problem, our rigid 433 is a problem, our recycling of possession at all costs is a problem but most of all regarding tactics the lack of desire to change it up in game is a problem. There is an arrogance about many managers and “their style of play”. BR has it as do many many others and it’s fine when you are winning but the moment that stops you are in trouble.
Ultimately it is about players that have that extra bit of ability, skill and vision. It always has been and always will be and we simply don’t have enough of them and we won’t invest in them as caution is in our custodians DNA. We had it all to gain but failed to invest, we tried to get away with it and tiptoe into the richest league in the world when we should have battered through knocking the door off its hinges. That is 100% on the la know vision and ambition from the top.
