  1. I am really sick of the pile on some of our players.

Engels in particular is expected to be a 21yo world beater because our team of financial genius negotiators managed to pay more for him that they were quoted two months prior.

Engels started very well at Celtic and was a big part in our season especially the CL where he contributed strongly in every game. How do we turn that into a problem so big that it potentially affects other investments the following season?? It’s mind boggling we have allowed this to take hold – stoked up by the BR haters and the media Engels has become a failure despite his goals, assists, motm performances in CL and overall play the full season. Does he look short of confidence now? Damn right he does and how can you be surprised? His normal set piece delivery is very strong and it was not last night I agree, probably afflicted by the same problem as the rest of them but the pile on this kid is way way over the top. We could be turning Celtic into a very hard place to play where criticism is quick and brutal so well done everyone.

    Moisey, excellent post

    …………..

    YES…I AGREE Mate.

    MOISEY17 is SPOT ON.

After that debacle, there’s nothing wrong with identifying as a bit of a mid-night soiler per se – so all power to your pisher !

Fan ‘bedwetting’ is understandable given the realised fears pertaining to the support BR was denied (which I stated in the body of my recent post). Something might be rotting in the state of Parkhead.

But reading back this morn, if we substituted Russell for Rodgers or Stewart for Lawwell, it would have read much like THEMS ‘wallow, wallow’ blog.

I always valued a key difference between us and huns; we were once ‘faithful thru and thru’ – Now, it’s cooler to be soaked and soiled through and through. As Dylan warbled: “…for the sheets, they are a changin’…”

I’ve never apologised for the club’s execs but have stated that they’ve largely done well – despite themselves -and despite making a pig’s arse of many manoeuvres in their business/team/transfer management.

Yesterday, I penned a pointed fable about a horse trainer whose sheikh denied him resources to improve his stables. Was I apologising then ? Mibby too obtuse? Sheep-ish? (when ewes piss the bed – are they sheep-pish?)

You feared/warned that our worst fears would materialise last night, despite my faith it might not.

If that feels like a reason for self-congratulation or self-vindication; go for it !

IMO today is not one for glee or gloating amid Celtic fans. HH

  4. Over the Two games v Kairat we were quite poor. I Posted after the 1st game that IF you don’t shoot…you don’t score.

I have to say though that in last nights game LIAM SCALES hardly put a foot wrong, and he was EASILY our best player…although the Bar was set quite low, given the poor performances of some of his Team Mates.

WHY was ADAM IDAH allowed to take our 1st Penalty ?

Clearly CALMAC won the Toss for Celtic to go first, and after that our BEST Penalty Taker should be taking our 1st Penalty ( ARNE ENGELS)….score…. and immediately the opposition are playing ” CATCH UP” !

I almost KNEW that IDAH would MISS the FIRST Penalty…Simply because he is the WORST Celtic ” Striker” since ALBION AJETI…or TONY CASCARINO for that matter.

Also, MAEDA SHOULD have buried that 1 v 1 chance with 5 minutes to go in normal time !

I AGREE that maybe its for the best that we failed to get thru this CL Qualifer, cos better teams than Kairat will destroy us in the CL.

I do NOT hold out much hope either being in the Europa League.

Should we BEAT the Huns on Sunday it will at least provide us with a wee bit of Joy…or maybe a LOT of JOY for this auld Celtic man ?

    HH.

  5. We need to get beyond the vision that a player bought for £2m and sold for £14m had been more successful than a £5m / £7m one.

What the player does between these two points is of more importance to the team.

Financial gain on assets is important, though only one feature of recruitment.

We are massively successful at selling our best players at profit. We tend to do this fairly quickly. Perhaps 2 years into a 4 year deal. Alas, the less valuable ones are then on the books for longer, often the duration of their 4 year contract. And why not

Our end to end recruitment process seems to be lacking

Suggestions that this is down to any one man just shows a posters lack of knowledge and pre existing biases I fear

  6. That awkward moment when you read a Tom English article and can’t disagree with it.

It is the obvious of course but still.

B78…You must be smirking this morning hoping you’re one step closer to getting your wish…

  8. Kairat, Midtjyland, ferenchavoros, Cluj, AEK Athens, Malmo, Maribor.

    Ten years of failure.

We need to appoint experienced sporting executives to the Celtic board so that we’re run as a footballing business.

  9. First step.

Get rid of the in house CEO who has was appoint with Zero experience.

We wouldn’t appoint a rookie manager, we shouldn’t be appointing rookie CEOs.

Let Nicholson go and prove himself elsewhere. Let’s see how many clubs want him – as many that wanted Mark Lawwell I suspect.

  10. Weebobbycollins on

I wouldn’t want any American or Arab oil investment in the club but I would like to see someone with fresh ideas, someone who understands Celtic, come in and buy out the golfer and shake up the board…

    but it ain’t gonna happen…

  11. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

When Harry Brady is slaughtering Desmond and the Board you know they’re guilty. Saying the top players also grumbling about the failure to replace top talent.

They have infected the club yet again with their toxins. Yet they will remain, despised but unaccountable, despising the fans in return.

The manager and players also failed last night, no excuses for them. I think they’ll sell Daizen now. Past caring and looks like his purple patch is over anyway.

  12. Moisey17 on 27th August 2025 7:45 am

Agreed re Engels. He should be the constant in our midfield/progression forward. Too often, and I’ve said this umpteen times on here, it looks like the ball has to go CalMac before we are allowed to play.

On CalMac, I think he deserves some space and time to find his form which has been patchy to say the least since start of season, but he really needs to show after the international break. I hope being overplayed and relied on previously has not taken its toll.

Has hideous horrible hillary krankie corrupted you so much to hate the English people, that you can’t even speak English anymore?

Time to get rid of the Irish Tory grifter off of Celtic’s board is it not?

Or will all be well again in fools paradise when the fake huns are dismissed tonight? lol

Rodgers is at Cellic cause serious clubs see him as a risky bloated ego grifter.

Kairat, Midtjyland, ferenchavoros, Cluj, AEK Athens, Malmo, Maribor.

    ……

All of the above except Kairat were due to tactical naivety , Kairat was due primarily to complacency with a healthy dose of tactical naivety.

I watched the earlier highlights of Kairat on YouTube and it was clear the pitch was a mess , it must have been obvious when we trained on it on Monday night. We still set out to keep possession on a difficult surface and play ( or pray) for the chance to come our way which we’d take. Alternative (for what it’s worth) would be to go longer into Adam’s feet and have runners Ben and Arne etc. etc. so for me the manager made the call that despite the pitch our best option was to stick to the possession based game plan. This turned out to be the wrong call and the manager should have fested up after the match instead of which the pitch gets the blame and a call for a review of where the club is going.

The last point is pretty clear it’s not my fault guv ….. it’s somebody else’s fault.

I don’t often shout at the telly but Jeezo last night there were some really really bad performances which lie at the door of the players and then the manager.

    HH

  15. MoN was on talkback this week saying he was personally phoning Desmond to get players in.

We’re run like a corner shop and appoint executives based on how well they’re liked or toe the line.

    We’re a basket case.

  16. Our share price is down 5% this morning so there’s a fair few selling off their shares this morning. I can’t blame them. I’ll be doing the same over the next week.

  17. The club needs to adopt a modern footballing structure. A Sporting Director who takes charge of transfers, contracts etc. A Technical Director whose remit covers the Academy. That would be just for starters. Unfortunately neither of the 2 basic things above will ever be implemented at CP under the current board. Their only KPI is to just stay a fraction ahead of Rangers whereby keeping alive the OF brand so beloved of Sky and their paltry TV contract.

If we thought this season could be a disaster, we ain’t seen nothing yet. What forward thinking coach with ambition would wish to work under such an unambitious self serving group of people? Answer? Only the desperate, who need a leg up back into management and will accept the development low cost buys that the board love. A match made in heaven.

I for one won’t be purchasing a EL package, nor will i purchase a single bit of merchandise inside or outside the ground until there is major changes at CP, both on and off the park.

It will be a long time before we see CL group stage football again at CP until drastic moves

  18. I thought last season in the CL, BR proved he was an elite manager, as good as we could hope to attract to the SPFL. The history books show another two seasons where titles and cups were hoovered up.

So, wIth all the usual caveats – bad luck with key injuries to Jota, to AJ, new signings not being delivered on time, nor good enough nor timely enough to replace the ones who have left – I am still left with the uneasy feeling that his team selection, his tactics and his inability to change things up in big games is resulting in turgid football and disappointing results.

in 2025, our “big” domestic games against rangers in the league and league cup final, and the Abertdeen Cup final, followed a similar pattern to last night. We were easy to nullify. We had no bite, no guile or ability to move up through the gears. How often have we heard that we we hadn’t moved out of first or second gear? That we could play at levels above when needed? But we didn’t. Then we would come on here and say it was a bad day at the office, that we were just unlucky that so many players had an off day. Shit happens. That’s football.

How often do we see posts after these games claiming that none of the opposition team would get a game for us? If that is the case, then one has to ask how our superior players are coached and prepared for the “big” games. Why the team selection and tactics don’t match the occasion? Why we are not capable of moving through the gears to reflect our superior talent?

As I said, I am someone who thinks BR is a very good manager but I am also able to acknowledge that he has not got the best out of the team since the high of the Munich performance. Last night was the culmination of months of regression rather than a bad day at the office.

Some of that lies with BR, just as it does with the players. A lot of it lies with the board.

It is hard to see the stars aligning and them all collectively pulling together now. I fear something has to give. We need a reset, not just a couple of new signings. We may still win the league as rangers are in a much worse state than us. It is shaping up to be gutter brawl with them, two drunks throwing fresh air punches and won by the one that doesn’t trip up over their own feet.

Off out to enjoy some fresh air on my bike. Hope you all find something to make you smile today.

  19. Just get one more thing out –

that was the worst I’ve seen us in a double header

that was the worst performance I’ve ever seen to get a team into the CL

the two teams last night were the least deserving of the CL I’ve ever seen

Right BR get us to Istanbul!

  20. Good players will improve when you train and play with better players, we have McGregor, CCV,AJ,Hatate, deteriorating as they are playing with and carrying inferior players ,and the malaise is set in,which creates a losers mindset, and always feeling like underdogs no matter what standard of team we play in Europe.

    Agree 100% PLB

No surprise that players get the hump with lack of a forward thinking plan – if the exec don’t seem bothered and would rather fight with football dept do you think that doesn’t filter down??

Not only do you not improve what you have but you demotivate those that you do have – its a double down on bad management.

Over the two legs we seemed to lack drive – i can’t explain that but don’t doubt above does not play its part

  22. Glad to see “ The board” aren’t taking all the flak.

We started last night with our three most expansive signings from last year , two on the bench and one injured.

We played a team that “everyone” of their players gave 100%

Can’t say that about our team to be honest !!

  23. Our first substitute until the 70th minute last night, 2 more on 76 minutes and the final 2 on 106 minutes.

That was nowhere near the time required to bed into the game. Three of those subs should have been made at half time. KT JF were done at half time and when we were looking for goals we put on one forward. That’s on the manager. However there is no doubt that the boards reluctance to bring in the required quality hamstrung us for that game and the support will have to let them know that this is unacceptable.

  24. We should be moving players like Hatate, Maeda and CCV on but because we can’t or we refuse to replace players adequately, we’ve held on.

A trading club would have sold these players. See Brugge sand what they did this summer in the market.

We’re utterly hopeless at replacing talent and have run this squad down to the bare bones.

Yang, Ralston, Scales, Donovan and Forrest should not be playing games as big as CL play offs.

” Yang, Ralston, Scales, Donovan and Forrest should not be playing games as big as CL play offs.”

    …………

    I DISAGREE Mate.

LIAM SCALES was our BEST Player over the Two legs v KAIRAT.

    HH.

  26. lets all do the huddle on

i think saying scales was our best player, and also saying he shouldnt be playing for us in the CL are not necessarily mutually exclusive comments

  27. I forgot about McCowan.

These guys are all SPFL standard. But are getting big minutes due to a lack of recruiting this summer.

  28. Khun Jota not replaced ,wingers are what is required to win big games .

How can strikers score if they are not getting the proper supply .

Everyone knew we needed these types of players to qualify for the next stage.

The board let us down again ,they need to be removed .

  29. The next day with a sober reflection.

    Absolutely gutted, but increasingly angry.

We had months of time to prepare . As it happened we got probably the most favourable draw in the CL qualifier we could have hoped for.

Bluntly, We drew a team we should have absolutely demolished over two legs.

I thought the game at Parkhead was bad, but last night was a shocker.

Attitude and mentality all wrong, ridiculous tactics on a flawed pitch.

How many times, this tippy tappy one dimensional football is outdated, boring and ineffective.

Lack of planning for a plan B is indefensible.

It was one of the weakest, insipid and cowardly performance I have witnessed from a Celtic team.

No leadership, no guidance and no end product.

The consequences are massive for this pathetic display in our season defining games.

Would the supporters have seen any benefit from the CL riches we have just thrown away.

    I doubt it.

However, without doubt the supporters will witness the effect of downsizing.

For starters , we now play more Sunday football. This comes with generally a lack of atmosphere, more car use, Celtic hospitality hit hard and supporters navigating travel arrangements.

I hope I don’t hear any more talk of empty seats. Blame a gutless team performance, not the supporters.

Yes we all know about our lack of signings, and the possible reasoning for that.

However our team should have put that tie to bed. No excuses for the players, coaches and managerial team.

Not for a second am I calling for the managers head. But I have witnessed, as we all have, managers falling on their sword for lesser consequential avoidable failure.

I will eventually feel better and move on, as will Celtic. But the history books on the shelf will not forget.

    HH. The journey de-railed

  30. lets all do the huddle on

looking at the europa league dates, by my reckoning we have a home league game after the first 4 group games. so theres 4 saturday home games being moved to a sunday in the next 2 months or so
