Karagandy manager on Celtic and his own players

1898

Shakhtar Karagandy Russian manager, Viktor Kumykov, gave an interview after their elimination of the Albanian champions in the last Champions League qualifier.  He talked about his team, which, unlike some in former Soviet countries, does not have an oligarch benefactor or rich sponsor.

Kumykov thought four of his potential opponents were of equal standing, although he clearly respects Celtic’s recent achievements in the Champions League.

He said, “Getting through to the play offs round is historical achievement for the club and for Kazakh football. We hope this is for the start and we would play in Europe regularly. Even if we don’t go to the Champions League, we will play in UEFA Europa League, which means we will be in the elite of the European football.

“We have made it to the group stage of one of the European competitions, which was our main target. It does not mean we can rest now and say we will not fight for more, but our main target is Cup of Kazakhstan. We have never won it before.

“From a football perspective, I think it might be better for us to be in the Europa League than the Champions League. If we go through to the Champions League we will play against much better teams, where we can meet giant clubs. For this we would need to buy few players to strengthen the team. We short of depth and players I have at the moment would not cope with big competitions. I have no experienced players.

“It’s difficult to say who against I want to play. All five teams are better than us. Celtic is different story, they are apart from the others. That team played in the Champions League last season and got through to the knock out round. They beat Barcelona. They beat Spartak Moscow away and at home.

“The Other four are all similar class one to each other but they are all stronger than us. Each of them play at a higher level. The team God gives us will be the team we will play against. It makes no sense to say who we want.”

I will tell you something for nothing.

Whoever we play at Aberdeen, they will kick and foul with total with impunity, FACT.

Celtic PLC are all about the balance sheet, that is a FACT, we will win the league over the course of a long season, another FACT, even with the other teams having the advantage of the cheats with the whistles.

I want the CL games back again this season, and for the forseeable, to risk not having them is a gamble that I would wager 99.9% of supporters would not take.

And whether PL spends to cash or not, which I very much doubt, I, and the majority would rather we had it, than not.

What we don’t have we won’t spend, at least there is a chance we will spend if we have the means.

Lenny also said the other night that some of the players were running on empty, if that is the case, rest some before the trip to Aberdeen, rest them before our biggest game of the season.

    makes sence to me.

With those odds the bookies expect it to be very tight over there, possibly a draw. Surprising!

  3. You know what would be cool. Anybody that presents confirmed travel details to Karagandy gets a free ticket to the game.

  4. Zbyszek, are you happy with your draw?

Also may I ask why you follow Celtic? Is it because of Legia players going to Celtic?

  5. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

How can they be running on empty?

    It’s only August.

    Gggrrrrrrrrrrr.

  6. Blantyre, I meant to ask you how he got on. I didn’t meet him. Had to watch at home. Did he have a good time?

I disagree – our 1st team will need to play well to beat Aberdeen.

McGinn, Robson, Flood all linking up nicely. Johnny Hayes good on his day. Anderson / Reynolds/ Shaunesghy decent in defence.

I’ll be at the game as it is handy for me – will give a report on CQN. As it will be a stiff test, Id say it is a good preparation for our CL game and would play as many of the Bhoys likely to feature in the away leg as I could.

Winning is a good habit – therefore I”d stick with team who need to win in CL.

It’s a little known fact that the CP tea lady does the scouting and the guy who services the CP mowers decides which players to sign.

Both confess to knowing zilch about fitba but are happy to do it for minimum wage, which keeps the board happy.

Thats why we keep signing haddies.>)

” the cva would have delivered us back to whyte.

king was the only person to oppose it. man is a genius.”

    ——

“Southwood said the court had seen King testify for four days and “are unanimous in finding that he is a mendacious witness whose evidence should not be accepted on any issue unless it is support by documents and other objective evidence”.

“It was remarkable that King showed no sign of embarrassment or any emotion when he conceded that he had lied to the (Sars) commissioner in a number of his income tax returns. In our assessment, he is a glib and shameless liar.”

    The future’s bright……

It was me that posted flights/ prices. I looked at the cheapest way of getting there direct with the least stop-over times/ flying times.

There are a variety of ways to get there via; Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Abu Dhabi for circa £1000 return – however the actual travelling/ stop-over total times vary between 18-32 hours making the journey there and back + match day run to 4 or 5 days.

Probably cheaper to book a week’s holiday! :-)

We could have got round it no problem, just required a little imagination.

But the simple use of trialists would never occur to our lot,oh no,so we are where we are!

I think most teams in the qualifiers to date are having to use players from last season,by and large.

Arsenal are in it now-they’ve lost a few players from last season, but who have they signed?

    Or the likes of Lyon,PSV,Milan?

You’re right-the timing of the qualifiers is a big problem for us. And it is the same for most.

Not sure the Wilson move was predictable/known. The approach from Forrest mightily hacked off Lenny, but I’m not greatly irked by him leaving. He’s a middle of the road player, of whom there are plenty to choose from.

Wanyama is essentially a one off. We could recruit 20 prototypes and none of them would measure up. The only practical way to replace him in terms of his contribution last season is to buy/recruit a £12M central midfielder.

Hooper, hmmm, I agree. In his final year, and knocking back our offer, he was always going. Therefore we need to sign a goalscorer and we haven’t.

Problem is of course that transfer business is compressed into the final fortnight of the window. That’s not in Celtic’s control, it’s a Europe wide behaviour. Eg: Chelsea want Rooney from Man Utd; Man Utd want Cesc to replace him; Barca want X to replace Cesc and so on. It’s akin to an English house buying chain, and nothing happens until everyone’s set to go.

Being near the bottom of the European food chain, we need to bide our time until clubs and players are ready to deal.

which leads to the thought that we need to complete our summer transfer business in January if we want a stronger squad for European qualifiers.

  15. CultsBhoy

Normally I would agree 100% with you.

The CL is the ultimate playground, and I would do everything to ensure we make it.

Would happily concede 3 points to Aberdeen or whoever if it helps to minimise the risk of injuries.

Before he has even kicked a ball – Our CEO is getting the blame for the signing of Balde!

Not Park, Lennon or any of the scouts the CEO saw the DVD and signed him.

If he comes good, where does the praise go to – Park, Lennon and the scouts.

There was a transfer window last January.

In addition to that the players can be lined up at any time, they just can’t sign the paperwork until the transfer window.

I’d rather we used players who are settled at the club in these qualifying matches – besides two of the new Bhoys are injured at the moment.

But the previous times we threw in a few new faces – Artmedia, Dynamo Moscow/Arsenal, Braga/Utrecht all Sion all ended in disaster (although we did rescuing the tie in Moscow).
