Keane asks not to be considered

1184

Reports out of Ireland that Roy Keane is no longer in the running for the Celtic job are correct.  The former Sunderland and Ipswich boss asked not to be considered as Celtic have tightened their shortlist over the past few days.

The overwhelming majority of opinion on the blog and elsewhere is that Celtic would be taking an enormous risk with Roy Keane, feedback which I know has reached the club.  These decision are all risky, and there are no guarantees we will be able to do better than Roy, but I’d be prepared to take that risk.

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

  3. My friends in Celtic,

Breaking News : Some prominent CQN’ers totally wrong-footed over Managerial announcement.

” Done Deal ” is seemingly undone.

    An Tearmann from previous article.

    My PS explained :

Actions have shown that there is no requirement to be born ” Celtic Minded” to live the ethos of Celtic.

Referred to the previous and continual actions of Kris Commons and his partner Lisa who were not born into the Celtic family but demonstrate what the Celtic family is all about.

If the club is listening to the fans, I say go get Zlatan signed up now!

  5. I’ve just phoned Celtic an told them I don’t want to be considered either. They didn’t seem that fussed tbh.

People here are jumping in on both sides as if they know what they are talking about. The truth is we know eff all. We know what we read & hear on MSM that is all, and IMO they know eff all either. Whether Keane declined the job or was never offered the job is immaterial all that matters is that we end up with the right man who will take us forward as a Club. Clock is ticking towards the qualifiers let us hope for white smoke soon and an inspired choice.

sound post Corkcelt.bit of sense whilst in this managerial limbo.

congratulations on your daughters engagement btw.

( and not all of it by me!)……….

Very obvious deliberate attempts to infect the blog via sleekit means- the most obvious of all the foul and extremely threatening language used by bully boy(s) from the darkside.

I would be delighted with Steve Clarke and pleased if malky. Roy would have been a massive and unnecessary gamble . He might have been good for profile and marketing, but you’d need to sell a lot of advertising to cover shortfall from missing champions league .

    And no coyle thank you.

  9. !!Bada Bing!! on

Clarke wouldn’t be an assistant to anyone at CP,how much do some guys think we will pay an Assistant Manager ? Serious question.

  10. GlassTwoThirdsFull

Re Steve Clarke . It was the way he reacted by dropping his top striker and keeping him out of the first team at a crucial time in the season . I was only viewing it from afar but seemed he handled it badly and the team morale collapsed.

  11. The articles here on CQN are taking on a Pravdaesque flavour.

Is it the case in this one that the inference is that the listening board have taken on the concerns of those on here and decided that Roy Keane was a gamble too far?

As opposed to the perceived wisdom that Roy looked in the biscuit tin and said no thanks?

Steve for me given Moyes is highly unlikely.

The RK news is double-edged. Wasn’t convinced he was the right man but his appointment would likely have meant investment. His declining us suggests Lawwell has won the battle of the budget.

    Wonder how Desmond is feeling?

Good see the Board are listening to CQN.

Perhaps we could set up a selection panel. Could we get any four people to agree on anyone??

    =========================

You will get one person with four different nicks to 75% agree…

  16. It is amazing how Celtic manage to keep things ” under the radar” or “behind the scenes”.

But then that is what a professional approach gets you.

I’m not going to get sucked into a daft debate. You knew exactly what I meant.

Calling a person arrogant who you don’t even know on some daft blog strikes of both cowardice and need I say arrogance.

I d love to see you say it to his face..

  18. Feedback reached the board my arsenal !!

Celtic wanted Keane. Keane was told the budget and said no thanks lads.

  19. FAI Statement:

RK will be on the plane to USA and will not be taking TALKS with Celtic any further.

It helps when your pals like M. O’N and R.K. are prepared to put on a sideshow to distract attention.

The downside is that some of the fans don’t realise it’s a sideshow.

  23. Johan Murdoch

MCColl is IMO a very good manager. If he wasn’t such a Hun I’d take him.

  24. Yep you can spin this anyway you want….

bottom line – Keane has said no thank you!

Wait to see what DD’s next move is.

Can’t say I’m disappointed…….. I do believe, also, that it’s best to ignore media hype and wait for updates direct from our Board…..

  26. I don’t know who we’ll get. Thing is, whoever it is will have to be happy with a 12 month rolling contract, eh?

  27. Paul67 et al

Let us be clear that this story was wholly and fully instigated, not by Roy Keane, but by our major shareholder Dermot Desmond. Martin O’Neil had a passing role, but Desmond was the main actor. Now where that leaves us is anybody’s guess. Bookies doing well so far.

Correct mate, to many on here know everything about nothing HH

  30. I trust CQNers don’t expect that the board “listened to the fans…” regarding RK.

He has turned down the opportunity of being considered for the post.

I for one think that PL will be relieved that this particular ‘application’ has now been taken off his desk. Could only foresee chaos at the time of the first transfer dispute with the board.

Steve Clarke was my choice from the off and I’ve heard no names I’m the mix which changes my preference.

If Henrik really wants to come, I think him or John Collins would be a useful no 2.

RK now joins Coyle on the never to be considered again list. I wish them

no harm but if you snub Celtic you should not get a 2nd chance.
