Reports out of Ireland that Roy Keane is no longer in the running for the Celtic job are correct. The former Sunderland and Ipswich boss asked not to be considered as Celtic have tightened their shortlist over the past few days.
The overwhelming majority of opinion on the blog and elsewhere is that Celtic would be taking an enormous risk with Roy Keane, feedback which I know has reached the club. These decision are all risky, and there are no guarantees we will be able to do better than Roy, but I’d be prepared to take that risk.

I think Roy has been sensible – Celtic talked to him about the role. Good practice, good business and respectful towards a former employee. Roy would have realised the magnitude of a job with us, especially given the recent events at Old Trafford and wisely chosen discretion. It’s win-win.
If he had been offered the job………..and then taken it,given the magnitude of our club, I’d say there would have been a far greater level of understanding for his decision.

I’m not saying it will be Jackie but that’s the level my expectations are set at. Don’t get me wrong, I’d give JMcN a chance. He has already proven more than Lenny had when we appointed him?
If we got Steve Clarke my expectations will have been exceeded. It might just happen as he needs a way back in to football and is a seriously wealthy guy so won’t be overly difficult to deal with.
But RK to me has been playing the game to Celtic’s advantage. I expect the real target to be hit and we have been able to negotiate without media interference. Let’s face it they would have done all in their power to subvert CFC efforts given half a chance. I’m not a big Lawwell fan but he’s a fox!

I’m glad about that he did.
I am astounded that the club are trying to spin this as we were aware of the unpopularity of appointing Keane with the fans and therefore we have changed our minds.
Bottom line is Keane does not like the idea of working within Celtics business strategy.
Fan power has had nothing to do with this.
Some fans were saying that this was a just a smokescreen.
The leak of the interest in Keane was from Celtic sources.
How do I know this?
Because it was a Celtic source that provided me with the info that we were after Keane a week past Sunday.
Roy Keane represented a big fish to Dermot Desmond.
I suspect that he thought that he was BOX OFFICE.
This is the first time I have ever questioned DD’s judgement.
Our next manager will have to be HAPPY to work within our business strategy.

If people are stupid enough to bet on a market that they have absolutely no knowledge of and cannot influence, then of course the bookies are only too happy to hoover up the mugs money.
To make this out to be some sort of bookie coup is laughable in the extreme.
It’s only because “people in the know” come on to websites like these saying stuff like” Roy Keane done deal” that gives the bookies the opportunity to hoover up the mugs money. i.e. people who believe the rumour then bet on it based on total hearsay.
The moral is simple don’t have a bet unless you think you have an advantage.
