Roy Keane’s “Celtic wanted me but they weren’t showing how much they wanted me” comment in his second autobiography about being courted to replace Neil Lennon as our manager in the summer is no doubt accurate on one level, but inaccurate on another. Some within Celtic certainly wanted him, but I’m sure the reticence he picked up (and was shared by many of us on the blog at the time) was also very real. Celtic wanted him, but their approach showed him how unconvinced they were.
Keane’s managerial CV is at best considered patchy and his reputation has sold more autobiographies of former team-mates and managers than the two volumes he has now published. Few were convinced he was the right manager for the job, although I’ve no doubt Keane’s claim that Dermot Desmond wanted him, and told him “The job is yours” is accurate, whether anyone else at Celtic was in on the plan or not.
Many thanks to everyone who sponsored me for Sunday’s Great Scottish Run 10k in aid of Celtic Foundation. So far, £677 has been raised to help OUR foundation’s work with poverty, education, learning and equality. The help and messages of support kept the legs moving.

It seems to me that there is a bit of a concerted effort going on by the media to undermine RD.
It sells papers and they cngaf of its effect on Celtic.
It also seems incongruent to me that when supporters are looking for signs of consistency and so stability, that something as destabilising as changing the manager is being proposed.
A bit like the Captain of the Titanic looking for another iceberg to ram into to stabilise the ship.
If the strategy is that Celtic move to a continental football model of fitness and technique and that move is by its nature destabilising, then if ever there was a time to do so it is now when dropping points does not mean being left 15 behind to one strong opponent, as opposed to 6 (with a game in hand) to a group of improving opponents.
Football and strategy are strange bedfellows, which explains why our game lurches from one seeming crisis to another with short termism the order of the day.
——————————————————————————————————-
The notion that the board had a masterplan to bring in RD to move to a more continental football model of fitness and technique is blown out of the water by his first signing, Jo Inge Berget. The very idea that the current board is capable of developing a masterplan is even more ridiculous.
Did stokes not snub celtic when he was at Falkirk and head down to Sunderland?
Was he on loan or something when.we wanted to sign him?
Anyway point is- is there any chance of him going back to Falkirk.?
Please. Is there?
was it gordon64 who posted a bit ago that he felt he didn’t know where celtic were going – team, club or board ?- sure feels like it now. Keano – there’s a galvaniser, of what though / Anyway, a new manager having a rough run is hardly news, we’ll sort this out and stick in the spl for what it’s worth; God bless ya brother walfrid you stuck to your guns and provided for anybody who walked through your doors.
What Roy Keane says IMO is irrelevant.
In my book he ain’t no Celtic man.
It would be a disgrace if he ever got near Paradise again.
Did he go to the games when he was a boy?
Funny how he used the same line about crawling over broken glass to get the Managers job as Martin.
Difference is MON did!
Roy, please don’t darken our door again.
“Keane’s managerial CV is at best considered patchy”
and Deila’s CV is so much better?
DD has a good track record on manager – O’Neill & Strachan.
PL managerial appointments are less than patchy – Mowbray.
Who would PL prefer to work with on a daily basis & why?
I imagine good or bad Keane would be a nightmare.
If RD gamble fails I won’t hold him responsible.

If we win our game in hand we will be third in the league.
EL – still in it
LC – still in it
SC -still in it
Injured players coming back soon, new players bedding in.
Plus when Ronny realises what foot the players actually kick with, we should be OK.
“Ronnie realising what foot the players actually kick with”. Thought that strategy had died with the dead club.

He was and was actually at CP on match day to conclude a deal but went to Sunderland instead.

Good afternoon CQN from Grenada (Caribbean), Winning Captains is this a first post from here ? Have had to await my ipad cooling down
I’ve discovered a new Paradise out here :-) Sandals La Source, stunning.
Anyway, have we sacked John Park yet, for the dross he is giving us
And I hope the players are all in training, learning how to control the ball with 1st touch.
On a serious note – Ronny time to get Nir Biton and young Liam Henderson back in the team, and build it around them
Keep Commons.
Keep Brown.
Just play them in their proper positions.
Those two ‘get’ Celtic and we need that now, more than ever with a new coaching team and a load of new signings/loanees.
And I suspect we’ll need it a whole lot more in the months coming up.

Why are we talking about players who “get” Celtic ? If they dont get us when they sign then they can get to………..

No idea, I am looking straight over the water into St George’s, resort is less than 5 mins from Airport, honestly stunning, I have been told to visit it though, thanks
Now I am a fan of Kris Commons, but his touch has currently deserted him, so what do we do ?
Also Tony Stokes, is Not a striker, so why continue to play him there ?
Worrying times for Celtic, what with all the loanee’s, VVD position, then we have KC, Broonie, and Kayal ( not bothered about him though) all out of contract at end of season
We need this situation sorted quickly
Please Celtic though, do not allow John Park to pick any more players, you will find one of the root causes of where we find ourselves here

Paul 67 well done you once again move the goalposts away from the real issue . DEILA is a dud your puppet master will be proud
……………………………………………
So..let me see..if I understand you correctly on the above point…
Paul is moving the goalposts away from the real issue by specifically talking about relevant circumstances connected with the appointment of the current manager, Mr R Deila.
Now what was that real issue again, you know the one that we’re not supposed to see, recognize or appreciate because of the tricky sleight of hand?
Is Keane in on it too? I mean, he had to be so that he could drop this “news” story.

‘Keane’s managerial CV is at best considered patchy’
LOL so instead we employed someone vast footballing management experience and tactical ‘nounce’ seemingly acquired while playing championship manager.
I’d bite RK’s hand off now if he offered to manage Celtic. He couldn’t be any worse than Pete’s latest feck up.
SFTB & Kojo (what an opening line)
Just to point out that you were both discussing separate potential career ending tackles on this thread – but about 3 pages apart.
Keane’s on Inge Haaland and an anonymous Sevco reserve on Paul George.
Just saying.
HH
Cowiebhoy,
I like your thinking with regard to Biton and Henderson. They are football players, with a good first touch. Proper fitness should be expected; proper ball control should be demanded; and the ability to pass and move has to be inculcated.
Hope you’re enjoying your holiday. Lucky so-an-so.

Roy boy spent the fifth most on transfer fees on the planet at Sunderland and walked out when they were 17, one spot above relegation quoting he’d taken them as far as he could. Lost the dressing room completely. I am sure the Irish mafia wanted him in but for me no way, it would have been an unmitigated disaster. At least this way his huge ego is still intact as is Celtic.
I’m disappointed by the lack of vision and the narrow-mindedness displayed by a lot of supporters on here.
Whether or not someone has played at the top level doesn’t make them a good manager. It might give some minor boost to their experience but more than anything it just gives them the opportunity in what is a sporting version of the old boys network.
Henderson sounds like he is bang on form. Would like to see him get an opportunity. Also think Kayal has played well this season. Bitton is a tidy footballer but doesn’t give you enough drive or creativity. We need that if we’re going to play three centre mids, which I feel is a must.
With his contract running down is Commons this seasons Samaras?
Catching up.
Philvis.
Your non podium post on page 1 was top notch.
Glad you returned.
Two questions
1) Does Roy Keane have a good word to say about anyone or anything?
2) What sort of process and job spec did we have for our recent managerial vacancy, that led us from Roy Keane to sounding out Larsson, to appointing Deila ?
I fail to see any process whatsoever, that connects those three.
In recent years, we have gambled by repeatedly signing a player called Impairment ( check the accounts). When he flops, we conveniently brush him aside, send him out on loan & hope that the odd success we do have glosses over the Impairment Brothers.
We then have to flog our successful players to offset losses on the duds.
Sadly , that gambling strategy will not work with a manager , who arguably is the most important person at a football club.
Right now if Ronny D was a player, he would be dropped, stuck in development squad & sent out on loan at Xmas or Summer to join the Impairment Brothers.

You had just left when I arrived at 12.50.
See you at the Astra game amigo.
Good evening friends.
BT-Hope you head home soon.HH
Good Evening Timland.
I would keep Broonie.
I would keep Commons.
I would start with Biton and Henderson
I would not have Roy Keane anywhere near our club.
I would never have signed Craig Gordon.
