Keep an eye on Pittodrie

St Johnstone have gone five games without a goal – and that includes a home game against Hamilton. They remain in the League Cup, but if they beat Hibs next week, will remarkably have reached the final after only facing lower league opposition. Their only Scottish Cup game against top-flight opponents ended in defeat.

What they can do is defend better than Hamilton, or several others in the league. They kept Celtic to three last month (which these days is an achievement), before keeping a clean sheet against Hearts. Only Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts and Partick have conceded fewer.

Tomorrow’s game is one Celtic will be confident of winning, but chances will not be as easy coming as they were on Tuesday night.

I get it.  The SFA have guidance which suggests New Douglas Park, one of the smallest grounds in Lanarkshire, should be the venue for our Scottish Cup game against East Kilbride. With 6,000 seats it is less than half the size of Fir Park, which is less than 3 miles away.  Moving the game to Fir Park would generate a significant amount of much needed money for grassroots football in Scotland.

Think about that……. generate money for grassroots football in Scotland.  Do the decent this and move this game to Motherwell.  If you want to register for a ticket, do so here.

The more who register, the more reason the SFA have to agree to Fir Park as the venue.

Keep an eye on the game at Pittodrie tonight. I watched 10-man Aberdeen come from behind away to Ross County last week, they were very impressive, but our nearest challengers have developed a blind spot against Dundee.

Three points and a clean sheet tomorrow, please, Celtic.

Look forward to it. Doesn’t seem to be a televised match on that week, but that won’t effect the taste of Sharkey’s Guinness!

I will be making a State Visit to Edinburgh the previous week and I won’t get a game there either.

I wonder if it’s because the last game I was at ended 0-1 to Hamilton!

  5. There’s that much cash in English football Neil Lennon and his crew are having a whip round for workers.

I believe the sfa announced the venue on twitter minutes after full time

It beggars belief that they had discussions with hamilton and obviously agreed using their stadium without involving ek or celtic in any discussions

On the day of the match ek were still saying they hoped any tie against celtic would go ahead at k park and they would do everything possible to make that happen.

If we ever needed confirmation of the stuffed shirts showing their shocking attitude this is it.

6000 × £20 = £120,000 minus the rental of new Douglas park ( £20k circa) minus stewards and bacon – minus celtics cut .

I doubt ek will get much more than £40k from the match although they will get TV money they would have got wherever the match is held

I’m kinda hoping they get a draw against us and a replay at celtic park

The Guardian, a newspaper that couldn’t care less about Sevco or Rangers have big Mike in the sights. So much so that this is a leading story for them.

  12. TBB-surely the SFA,s remit should be to let all clubs maximise their income? As of last night EK had no idea how much Hamilton will charge for rental, arrogant amateurs in charge of the game.

  13. Hi Bhoys

A wee bit out there this post but bear with me. I know it’s not just me who gets mixed up with the technical and legal side of how things are working with the situation down Govan way. You know what I mean it looks straight forward from the outside looking in but nothing ever goes the way we expect it. I would love someone to just write a simple scenario of it all, just a paragraph or two with no big words or legal terms that you have to look up.

So apart from just writing they are DEED try this.

Watch a movie called SPOTLIGHT. Now I’m not trying to compare the crimes portrayed in the movie to the crimes committed by you know who, but watch the movie and then try these swaps.

Firstly change the catholic church in the movie to the SFA,SPFL then change the paedophile priests to the old entity from Govan. Then change their victims to the football paying public of Scotland.

Now the catholic church/SFA SPFL far from being unaware of the unlawful behaviour being carried out by the priests/ OLD GOVAN ENTITY despite having detailed information of these crimes made absolutely no effort to discourage it or indeed inform the authorities. In any normal persons thinking I would say this makes them complicit in the crimes being committed against the victims/ FOOTBALL PAYING PUBLIC.

You’ll soon get the picture. But the big difference in these two stories is the press. In Boston were the story is set (a true story) the Boston Globe have reporters who are willing to investigate stories and allegations of wrong doing with decency, tenacity and no little moral fibre. Where as here in Scotland our so called press have shown the backbone of a jellyfish. It has been left to the internet bampots to cover the story and sweep away the culture of secrecy, deception and intimidation that has surrounded this farce.

It begs the question would we get more answers if only one newspaper editor in this country would grow a pair and publish the truth? Just think what one newspaper in Boston achieved by doing this and how it monumentally changed the world. Is there no one in the press in Scotland interested in winning a Pulitzer Prize?

So in closing give Phil Mac a newspaper editor with some balls and a couple of young honest and eager hacks and this fucking saga/joke would be over in jig time.

Carlsberg don’t do newspapers but if they did !!!!!!!!!!

    KEEP THE FAITH

    That would be fair imo:)

    HH

  15. EK should request the game to be held at CP.

This way they get a minimum 30k gate plus TV money.

Say £15 a ticket just to boost the attendance.

So the non league side gets a bumper share of a £450k.

A decent amount filtering down to grass roots football.

And a glamour venue for aspiring young footballers.

  16. JF will be glad he hasnt got that hanging over his head anymore.

    Its under control now:)

  17. The Battered Bunnet on

Discussions with SFA have been ongoing since the draw was made

Negotiations were (are) ongoing with 3 venues, one preferred.

Hamilton had been approached but had not responded to enquiries (phoned or emailed) and thus, were not on the list

SFA notified the club via a Twitter post 5 minutes after the final whistle that New Douglas Park would be the venue

The club has had no visibility of costs to stage the match at NDP

The club’s objective is to use the tie to engage the town and galvanise the people around the club. This is a community club first and foremost.

The club’s community programme is on a greater scale than most professional clubs, with 1000 kids of all ages and abilities involved in formal sporting, learning and social inclusion projects. The Allotments project for kids with Learning Disabilities is award winning.

It’s also a not-for-profit organisation, with the assets owned by a registered charity whose purpose is exclusively community betterment.

The players and coaching staff are amateurs, and the club is managed by a team of volunteers.

In 6 years the club has gone from an audacious idea to a last 16 tie versus Celtic, with half of the first team squad having come through the youth development pathway established in 2010.

This match is not about the tie itself, it’s about the future, it’s about taking the opportunity to do more good things on a larger scale for a longer period of time with and for the town.

The club’s priority then will be to get the town to turn out for the match, get the people engaged in the club, and keep them engaged. On that basis, priority for tickets naturally will be given to the ‘home’ crowd. There may very well be incentives and promottions to this end.

If NDP is the venue, I expect the majority of tickets wil be reserved for this purpose. If you want one (or more) click the link and let the club know. If there’s a greater interest in the game than there is capacity at NDP, the argument to shift it to a larger venue easier to make.

In other words, the number of Celtic fans who get a ticket for the match will be determined by the number who let the club know they want to go.

If I played for EK, I would WANT to play at Celtic Park. Do either BB or TBB know if the Kilby players feel that way?

Also, I think there would be a decent crowd even though the game is being televised. Media interest = Public Interest and there has certainly been a decent amount of the former.

Why don’t the SFA just do what they would really like to do.

Play the game at Ibrox. #everypennycounts.

  21. The trouncing of Accies on Tuesday brings a couple of problems to tomorrow’s clash with Saint Johnstone.

The Perth side, having seen the game, will be set up to defend in numbers.

The Celtic support having seen Tuesday’s sparkling performance will have even higher expectations of a further goal glut.

If Saints manage to frustrate us for 20 to 25 minutes then the crowd will become more than a wee bit impatient and their exasperation could be passed down to the field.

So Imthink we need to be patient tomorrow and let our superior class and fitness count in the second half.

    I’m still,cautiously, for me, predicting a comfortable 3-0 win.

JJ would be a great experience for the players, and both clubs would prefer it, but the SFA say NO.
