Key action for Celtic tonight is in Brussels, not Paris

180

I can tell how much you are looking forward to this one tonight……….. Paris Saint-Germain thoroughly humbled us at Celtic Park in September. They are have won all Champions League games and dropped only four points from 13 Ligue 1 games this season. This is a team without obvious weaknesses and with spare capacity to burn. We will do well to come closer on this occasion than we did in September.

What will be just as important, are events 200 miles north in Brussels, where Anderlecht face Bayern Munich. Even a point for Anderlecht will be enough for the Belgian champions to take a viable game plan to Glasgow for match day six. Anderlecht have zero points after four games with a three point deficit to Celtic. After Celtic’s 0-3 win in Brussels the Belgians will almost certainly need to finish above Celtic on points, and that will mean taking something tonight.

If Anderlecht can reduce the deficit to two points, they will come to Celtic Park hoping for the combination of missed chances/random red card/penalty that any underdog can exploit.

You might be feeling sore later, but if Bayern Munich do their business appropriately, we will achieve our European objectives for the season, no matter what happens in Paris.

Karamoko’s brother scored against my local team last night.

Tactically and formation-wise I’d try to get it as close as we can to the Bayern home game.

The only change I might make is to bring in Ntcham for Sinclair, with Armstrong going further forward.

(Rogic, Sinclair and Simunovic in on Sunday).

Keep concentrated – watch the off-the-ball runs, stay goal side and keep the ball when we have it and we could give them a game.

  6. Paul 67,

Very true. Let’s hope our new Bavarian friends can give us a wee boost. Regarding our own game, if we give it our best shot with no regrets, then I’ll be happy regardless of the score.

I will be interested to see if Nir Bitton is picked over a fit (but maybe not match-fit) Jozo Simunovic.

Bitton has been excellent of late and it would be a sore one for him if he is benched; however, maybe the deeper understanding of the position that Jozo has is required for tonight; who knows (apart from Brendan Rodgers)?

I’d definitely have N’tcham playing in his home country alongside Brown in midfield. Part of me also thinks that Kouassi could be a gamble worth taking to create more dig in the middle of the park.

    Gordon

    Lustig, Simunovic, Boyata, Tierney

    Brown

    Forrest, N’tcham, Kouassi, Sinclair

    Dembele

Roberts, Griffiths and Rogic to make an appearance at some point.

Celtic wonderkid Karamoko Dembele’s brother wins EFL young player of the month award

The 21-year-old is in his first season at the club but is impressing at the League Two outfit.

Karamoko Dembele might be being tipped for big things at Celtic but older brother Siriki is showcasing his own skills down in England.

The attacker plays in League Two for Grimbsy Town and has scored four goals this season.

His impressive performances have resulted in him being named as the English Football League’s young player of the month for October.

Am I the only one hoping we dont better Anderlechts score tonight ,so that the last game is another magical night under the lights in December?????.

And never wish bad on another person folks, cause Karmas a bitch.

  12. What we must not do tonight is get involved in any silly personal battles, especially with the likes of Neymar.

We can’t afford yellow or red cards tonight that would reduce our team options for the Anderlecht game.

We need tonight to pass quickly and trouble free so we have a full squad to choose from in our last CL game.

  13. Bom dia

Not really a Tough choice tonight for Brendan.

He’s indicated developing the club not just this group of players is his mission. To do that we need to experience the demands posed at this level.

Gascogne committed two red card offences that day. A forgotten Kung-fu kick on the chest of Garry Parker, and a much worse shocker on Gary Charles.

Had he been sent off,as he deserved to be,for the first one,his career and his life could have been so so different.

    Sliding doors,indeed.

Btw,he only received one yellow that day. Shocking refereeing.

    “…humbled…” is a term I strongly dislike.

It suggests an initial arrogance and expectation that I don’t think most of us had.

I don’t think we ‘humble’ the smaller teams with much less resources than us when we run up a big score against them – the same is true with PSG vs. us.

  18. I hope our bhoys get stuck in tonight and don’t stand off them like the first game…..so 40/1 KT and Lustig to get carded on Skybet is a possibility……

  19. Bmcuwp, in my mind I had him getting red carded as he was being taken off on a streacher, funny thing the Ol memory. But you are of course correct.

IMHO the game has been passing Armstrong by recently and we cannot afford anyone to be less than 100%. N’tcham and Kouassi are much tougher than Armstrong and they, along with Brown can also play a bit! We will be defending for long periods of the game and I thing that Kouassi would be a better option than Stretch. Also, when the game needs a lift I do think Rogic has more in his locker than Armstrong; big Twinkle Toes is possibly the best controller of the ball we have on our books!

Forrest and Sinclair to provide the creativity when the midfield commandos get the ball to them and serve it up to big Moussa.
