Key decision of the year for Neil Lennon

1418

If you thumb through the pages of the Celtic Quick News comments section you’ll find a couple of overlapping areas of indifferent form being reported.  One for Beram Kayal and one for the team as a whole.  You’ll also note several contributors commenting that Beram’s form improved after his new contract was signed, settling speculation surrounding the player.

It may be coincidental that Beram’s form seemed to pick up after his future was settled but the fact that this happened a few days after the pivotal 3-3 draw at Kilmarnock suggests a whole lot of what has been going right at Celtic was linked to the Israeli’s form in this crucial central midfield area.

Neil Lennon has a huge tactical decision to make.  Get it wrong and he will not be able to replicate the impressive run of 10 consecutive wins.  Before making a decision, a good place to research would be videos of Celtic’s run up to and including that Kilmarnock game.  Knowing some of the things to avoid is a good start.

  1. The ole CQNrs have come up with the fastest finger first five.

    Believe me mate, Murphy would chuck his Scottish seat and be looking for a safe berth in England the second the result was in. He would gravitate to the centre of maximum power, and if what’s left of the UK held a UN seat and the nuclear launch codes that is exactly where he would want to be.

    I can’t speak to Darling, as he’s always struck me as a moderate, reasonable and very principled man … but Murphy? The idea, the very notion, he gives a toss about Scotland is laughable. He cares about Jim Murphy; that is the be-all-and-end-all of his mortal existence mate.

    …………….

    Don’t know much about him (though i do work with his cousin), if thats true we don’t need him. We need people who will work to improve Scotland (if they improve themselves at the same time good luck to them)

    So far mate, you’re the only one who’s had a stab at my question.

    Care to elaborate on your answer though?

    An educated guess, i don’t know for sure

    In pre-league days there was about 8 or 9 rounds of the scottish cup if you were to reach the final, i’m guessing that during the 1888/89 season when we reached the final we must of scored a fair few goals in doing so, especially given some of the scores of 7,8,9 ect. in those days.

  9. Off topic.

    Mate that is absolutely spot on. I’ll publish the full details later, but that’s it in a nut-shell. I was actually a bit gob-smacked to read that we set a record like that in our first season which stands to this day.

    Over the years I have lived I have increasingly come to the view that nationality religion and race are generally matters only of tribal difference,luck,whether good or bad and are mainly less than inspiring whilst the ills of the world can generally be laid at the door of the greedy and the power-mongers to be found in all races creeds and nationalities.

    As such the pontificating of the Salmond’s and Cameron’s of this world I regard as simply just more noise over an issue which in the end will be of very very little benefit to you or me because after all what is being played out is certainly not for the benefit of the man or woman in London or Edinburgh but has everything to do with the egos of the protagonists. At least its a little different from 1314 and 1707 when the power brokers made no pretence of the driving force behind their actions.This time the greed that preoccupies the contenders for power is a little less obvious. The game’s the same however.

    I do wonder however what the inherent Scots bigot will do when they have removed their bete noire from the ring and have woken up to discover that much of Scotland’s ills lie with themselves.

    Such a parcel of rogues in a nation indeed

    Agreed, I was pleased to see Anto Stokes stand up for young Dylan after the legs were cut from under him in last Sunday’s game. One thing is apparent watching Stokes in numerous games, he is not prepared to take any shit from defenders in fact it’s not too long ago when he faced off Neil lLennon himself in his days as player with Hibernian. Hail.Hail Anto.

    Whilst Beram’s good form was welcome, our early season poor form was IMO impacted by. some shocking defending, Dan started really slowly, Fraser a bag of nerves on his return, kelvin not for me, retreats to his goal when pressurised, cannot hold a line and for me wrecked a perfectly good offside plan which Dan managed gnecpteviou season.

    with all that going on no wonder the midfield was cack. Defence settled and then this confidence spread through the team

  15. Aaargh. Should never post team before hearing injuries.

    Forrest’s likely absence all but rules out 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 – there’s no one else there who remotely play in a similar way – which, alas, precludes Paddy :-(. Hooper also out, so Sammi and Stokes up front it has to be.

    I’ll go:

    :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Forster ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

    Matthews :::::: Wanyama :::::::: Mulgrew ::::::::: Izaguirre

    Cha :::::::::::::: Brown ::::::::::: Ledley :::::::::::::::::: Ki

    :::::::::::::::::: Samaras ::::::::: Stokes :::::::::::::::::::::

    Still not convinced Wanyama isn’t a better defender than he is a midfielder. God knows we could do with a top class defender more than we could another midfield addition.

    IMO when we discover the problems that are of our making we can do something about them. Therefore hopefully making it better!

  18. Team for tomorrow

    Forster

    Matthews – Rogne – Mulgrew – Izzy

    Brown – Ki – Victor – Ledley – Samaras

    Stokes

    This is if Forrest and Hooper are both injured.

  19. Up Over Goal

    I would go for Rogne and Mulgrew in central defence – is Thomas injured? They looked superb against Gers. Not so sure that Izzy is fully match fit yet. Put Victor in midfield.

  20. If hooper is out

    ………………Forster

    Matthews Rogne Mulgrew Izzy

    Brown Ki Wanyama Ledley Sammi

    ……………….Stokes

  21. Last I heard Commons was fit and available. If so I would start him, he gives us a special dimension.

    I’d go further – I’d say that there is no diffrence in race between Scottish, ENglish, Welsh and Irish. There were three main races in Europe – Frankish, Slav and one from the iberian peninsula (I forget the name). Frankish, is central European covering GErmany, France and everything in between and nearby. The Slavs were eastern European – Russian and down towards Greece. I guess that Northern Europeans are Britain, Ireland Scandanavia are extractions of these.

    Britain was quite insular from teh changes which have occurred in Europe throughout history, being an island. But the Countries, states and Nationalities we have now bear no resemblance to that of 300 years ago, in fact up to WW1 people in mainland Europe would have no real though about nationality.

    As Europesans moved from fuedal systems to democracy countries and borders have emerged and only to protect power and wealth. It is always the same as King Alex wants his dominion and wealth from teh remnants of North Sea Oil, and he’s hoping from renewable energy, whild Cameron will want to make sure he is still at teh top table in the G8 and the Un security council, both of which would be in doubt for a smaller UK of England Irelsnd and Wales.

    The bigots and racists just reflect what taking nationalism to the extremes can do, this is not a new trait, but it is now to the point where just looking at someone the wrong way or wearing teh wrong color of shirt marks you as being so different that you may become a figure of hate.

  23. hankray

    Don’t get me wrong, Rogne is a good defender, but Victor is a GREAT defender who can play the ball out of defence to set up attacks – that’s what we’ve been missing.

  24. BlantyreKev

    Not sure about starting him considering he’s been out for so long (and no bounce games?) but would love to see him come off the bench in this game – he is devastating against Dundee Utd (even including this season).
