Kieran, Jozo, daring to complain about the Government

425

I lost count the number of times I heard “Worst Dundee United team I’ve ever seen” on the way out of Celtic Park yesterday. They were guileless, unable to do any more than stand in Celtic’s way, and they didn’t even do that very effectively, as Leigh Griffiths demonstrated.  I hope Mixu gets a grip on things soon as I’ve seen a better United team than that relegated.

For Celtic it was an important win on the back of a week to forget. Martin O’Neill was fond of saying the most important thing after a defeat is to avoid another one, when confidence slips it can often do so for a while.

Kieran Tierney won the free kick which led to the second goal and the penalty for the third. His energy levels were high and he looked every inch a Celtic player. Ronny knows teenage talent needs to be developed at a comfortable pace but the stage is Kieran’s right now he might just make the position his own.

Delighted to see Jozo Simunovic after a long and, for some, worrying absence. This was a difficult game to judge central defenders, as Celtic did so little defending, but what was asked of him was carried out well. He also showed a decent change of pace and sent a rasping shot on target from 30 yards.

While last week will take a while to leave the system, the next five days are enormously important: Heats in the League Cup on Wednesday before Aberdeen on Saturday. We can speculate on what’s destroyed Aberdeen, but whatever it is, there will be clear decks for the visit to Glasgow on Saturday, but before then we have one of our biggest domestic challenges of the season at Tynecastle.  Need to get it right for both.

My first reaction when I saw the Green Brigade banner yesterday was they some poor sod was likely to get huckled for this entirely peaceful and appropriate protest against a ridiculous law and ever-conspiratorial government and police. Such is the nature of the Offensive Behaviour Act that you can’t really complain about the Scottish Government confident that you are free to do so.

The Scottish Government-Police Scotland pact is set in stone. No amount of ridicule from courts to stadiums seem to affect it.  I remain appalled and alarmed.

  1. Peers also voted on an amendment to the motion seeking to delay consideration of the regulations until consultation and a report to Parliament on the provision of full transactional protection for a minimum of three years for all low-income families and individuals currently receiving tax credits before 5 April 2016 has been completed, such transitional protection to be renewable after three years with parliamentary approval. Members voted 289 for and 272 against, so the amendment was agreed.

Bourne, the woman who called me a bigot as I went to all our games I could, really liked one of her son’s girlfriends but her husband didn’t like her as the girlfriend was called Ann-Marie. Let’s just say the dad’s negative influence won , unfortunately.

BLANTYRETIM. I understand what was going to happen what I am not clear about is what real difference tonights vote will make ? H.H.

  5. The changes in the Tax Credit system should make it all more important to pay the Living Wage.

As was said a couple of years ago that employees were only “topping up their wages .”

    Who said that?

  6. Dallas-88 is a great goal tally for KC to reach so quickly, hope he gets the ton, remember he had a few months our after banjoing NL……..;))

Thetimreaper, I would much rather Aiden Nesbitt was in our matchday squad and was ahead of Calumn McGregor in getting game time as a sub.

Does the House of Lords really have the power to over-rule George Osborne on tax credits? And if it does, what happens next?

The current argument concerns the Tax Credits (Income Thresholds and Determination of Rates) (Amendment) Regulations 2015 which significantly limit people’s eligibility for tax credits. This is a piece of ‘delegated legislation’ (a ‘statutory instrument’) meaning that it is subject to an expedited parliamentary process, much less onerous than the process for passing a bill (see summary here). The government is seeking to use powers delegated to it under the Tax Credits Act 2002, which allows for regular updating of rates and bands. This kind of delegated power is commonplace, to ensure that a new bill is not required every time there are small changes to the implementation of policy. Notably, delegated legislation cannot be amended by the Lords, only rejected or agreed.

    The Lords and delegated legislation

The House of Lords has a formal veto over delegated legislation.

If the House of Lords used its veto power on a regular basis this could be very disruptive. In practice it has treated such matters with caution. The House of Lords Library have collated useful data on such motions. These show that in the period 1999-2012 the Lords voted on 27 fatal and 42 non-fatal motions, which resulted in 17 defeats – just three of them on fatal motions. Two occurred in 2000 over arrangements for the London mayoral elections, and another in 2007 over the Manchester ‘supercasino’.

Ronny looks weak. KC has been a good player for us. He and Sammi pushed us past the CL qualifications a few times. Passion is needed but he seriously undermined the management. Players will sense blood. Our boozehound players will be happy.

Rangers consider open-roof stadium with new-look Ibrox to host megastars

    By PETER JARDINE

    Last updated at 09:40 07 January 2008

Rangers will look to attract world sports stars like Ricky Hatton and rock acts like the Rolling Stones to a redeveloped Ibrox, it was claimed last night.

    • More Premier League news club by club

Chairman David Murray has confirmed the club are looking at three different projects which would transform the stadium and its environs in Govan.

The most ambitious plan would feature a 70,000-capacity futuristic stadium, with a retractable roof that would open up a whole new sphere of event possibilities.

    Ibrox

Glasgow City Council and private enterprise would be involved in the proposals, which would also include a hotel development with 2,000 bedrooms. Rangers are obliged to protect the red-brick facade of the main stand, which is named after their legendary manager Bill Struth.

The ‘Category B’ listed building would be retained under any of the three redevelopment projects.

But talks on the plans have already begun with soundings being taken on the kind of finance needed – the 70,000 capacity plan perhaps costing as much as £700million.

Murray unveiled a similar blueprint in 2005 that included a casino project on the current car park but that deal collapsed when Manchester won the bidding.

Now more ambitious ideas are being floated with the whole concept aimed at making Ibrox a venue which can cater for events far removed from fortnightly SPL action.

“If something like this went through then there’s no reason why the Rolling Stones could not play one week and Ricky Hatton fight there the next,” said a source. “It is not about simply making a bigger football stadium but about creating a location which can attract big events.

“There’s a gap in the market out with the NEC in Birmingham for major conferences and concerts and these blueprints would enable Ibrox to host multiple events.”

Ibrox is already due to host rugby at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the potential for a retractable roof could even attract tennis events featuring the likes of Andy Murray.

Rangers posted confirmation of their development ambitions on their website: “We are analysing a variety of proposals along with the development of the existing outline planning for the Hinshelwood area next to the stadium.

“There are three strategies, one of which includes the total rebuilding of Ibrox with the retention of the traditional red-brick facade. Full details will be announced at the appropriate time.”

Owner Murray declared 18 months ago that he was prepared to sell his controlling interest in Rangers, if he felt the right successor had emerged.

It now looks as if Walter Smith’s rejuvenation on the pitch has stretched to the boardroom, with Murray plotting further schemes that could, ultimately, make the club’s home far more than a mere football stadium.

I would reckon the Lords will do as they are told or the gravy train might be affected.

How a bunch of unelected geriatrics can decide on something so important is beyond belief.

Looking more likely by the day too

  22. Good evening everyone, hope this is not scrolled by too quickly.

I am going to be selfish as I am looking for a favour for my lhad. He moved down to Brentford in January this year and has settled in well, job going fine, good flat mates, got a football team to play with and attends Hoops games in The Horse Guardsman home of West London CSC.

Anyway, he and his flat mates landlord is returning home and they have 30 days to find new digs!

Such is the way in London today.

Anyway I have to be selfish and look after my lhad, so am appealing to any London Celts on here who know of decent digs for a house trained young Hoop. I can supply references and can be contacted via here in the first instance.

Ideally West London would be his preference, as it happens my and the Mrs are visiting him this weekend, looks like we will be flat hunting! Bummer.

Hello again all you young rebels.

Just back from my usual jaunt down the peninsula to socialise with

our Celtic club members, spent the weekend there without wifi

as i didn’t want any reminders of the Molde game but it didn’t make

much difference we all argued what the reason was and some

wanted rid of Ronnie or some the whole coaching staff and even one

wanted everybody at the club top to bottom gone.

Me, well I’m just glad i don’t post after a defeat like that, the gutless

performance from my Celtic bhoys sickens me to the stomach but i

know if i post i will regret what i wrote, so here i am back to normal

because I’ve seen many of them in my auld lifetime and thats what

makes us the great club we are because just like General Mcarthur

or was it big Arnie? … well be back.

It was membership renewal time for our CSC and you know what ?

the constant moaners were the first to pay their dues and at any fund

raising days they are the first to put their hands in their pockets so

I’ve learned just to let everybody get it out of their system although

i love to argue with them just for the craic.

The wee fhella couldn’t be with us over the weekend so when i got back

    he said.

” Papa you don’t want to go on that CQN their all gone off their heids with

    that Molde result ”

” Don’t worry about it wee mhan it’s only because they care and thats why

your lucky to be a Celtic fan ”

    ” O.K. Papa ”

    H.H Mick

The family tax credit could/should be the ruin of the Tory party. I know from personal experience that it kept me afloat until the Tory bassas priced me out of it a few years ago.

A lot of families will suffer badly when the cuts kick in, my heart goes out to them, you will be a busy bloke.
