Kieran Tierney:s injury, picked up while playing for Scotland against Iceland, has spooked some Celtic fans. It shouldn’t. The injury itself is apparently nothing significant. Footballers play with what are euphemistically called ‘knocks’ all the time. Few are ever 100% clear of some ailment.
Whatsmore, we should expect Kieran to be fit around 70% of the time. If he manages 80% across his time at Celtic, it would be an exceptional improvement.
Brendan will rest him for games he can afford to and play him when he has a ‘niggle’, another useful euphemism we use when we accept playing a footballer with an injury. This is football. We need to learn to accept it when it comes to Kieran and the rest of the squad.

hmmm
I’m one of the “spooked” , injured in a friendly against Iceland ?
How’s it looking when he’s up against the cluggers of aberdung and st midden ?
Or how about the possibility that Kieran Tierney is 70% fit 80% of the time?
Not sure if he has played ninety minutes since the Euros last summer, though he did get some game time for Arsenal towards the latter part of their season.
If Greg Taylor is on his way, might be in order to keep Schloop and bring back Mathew Anderson from Austria…
and consider any appearances from a fit KT as a bonus, or more usually like at Arseanl, as a useful substitute, in certain games. As far as him being an alternative centre back, as some believe, not sure that that is a realistic option for Brendan Rodgers.
In the last four seasons KT hasnt started more than 25 games. Not always through injury, but it would be poor planning to think he’ll be able to start many more than that over a number of seasons
Over twice that many games over the season, if we’re to keep him fit during the champions league months he’ll need careful management and decent options in his place.
We can’t sign players like KT and have a small squad, it won’t work
Good afternoon all from the Brazen Head. Not too bonny in old Gorbals parish today.
Kieran Tierney cost us nothing, a no brainer to bring him home.
He can’t play the Greg Taylor role we need a new player for that, somebody better than Boli Bolingoli, Alex Bernabei, Adam Montgomery, Alex Valle, or Jeff Schlupp – all of whom he saw off.
Good luck Brendan 👍

new dugouts and a new pitch, couldnt that be a nice wee easy comms update /
Fit 70% of the time? Based on the evidence of the last few seasons, I’d say this is very optimistic. That’s putting it mildly.
So what is the plan for the remaining 30% of the time ?
Steve Clarke is a moron playing his first team against Iceland. It was only a friendly and these players have had a long season.
Tierney should not have played and now he has had 50 caps he should be thinking that its time to quit Scotland like Calum has done.
With Tierney’s injury situation we need multiple solutions to Left back. We know Scales can play there and I would like to see a deal offered to Schlupp, who can play several positions. Montgomery and Anderson can also be options.
I assume the club has made Taylor its best offer so, as he hasn’t signed it then we move on.
Do we need another Left back?
Kieren is 27.
he will play for scotland for many years.
So KT has only played a full 90 mins 3 times in the last 2 years , not a bad gig if you can get away with it.
Competitive international fixtures in June.
Utterly ridiculous.
Absolutely nothing to be learned or gained.
Lots to lose.
Genuine example : John Souttar is playing competitive football for Scotland in June and will be expected to be available to play competitive football for his club in July.
Repeat: utterly ridiculous
Why are we playing meaningless friendlies in the middle of June? It’s absolute nonsense

Saint Stivs, couldn’t agree more. If were not for you and others providing all sorts of information about upgrades, new builds (Barrowfield) most people would know nothing. It’s as if we don’t need to know! I understand that it is not as newsworthy as a new signing, contract extension etc. but as you said a very easy and respectful communication to the people who contribute a significant amount of cash to the Club.
Greece is the word
So we are weak in midfield.
We have a new LB who we don’t think will play much over 50%.
We seem set to lose our goal scoring wide right player.
We could potentially lose our best striker / wide player.
We have doubts about our RB cover and LB cover.
We have doubts about CB cover.
We are lacking a goal scoring striker to replace Kyogo.
Our recently returned wing player from Portugal maybe injured for some time.
Our best creative midfield player is also injured.
We have signed how many to cover for the above ?
And we start back training in 2 and a bit weeks.

Couldn’t agree more about friendlies and competitive games at this time of the season – utterly ridiculous.
IMHO, there should only be two summer tournaments – the World Cup and the Euros.
I watched the final last night between Portugal and Spain and enjoyed it as a game of football. I still couldn’t really tell you what the tournament is for. If it was never played again who would miss it?
As for KT , for me he’s good enough both as a player and a force in the dressing room that even if he is injury prone it’s an easy decision to bring him back.
Given his age I can understand why he still wants to play for Scotland but I’d also hope that if Scotland qualify for the WC next year he calls it a day after that.
Only trying to help.

Kieran Tierney cost us nothing…

Really, BSR?
No signing-on fee, no agents fee, and no wages?
Whatabhoy he is!
HH to KT
Does anyone think KT walks like Andy Murray?
Luis Palma, Marco Tilio, Stephen Welsh, Kwon and Gustav Lagerbielke are all due back at the club, with Odin Holm due back at Christmas.
Brendan Rodgers with question marks over Nawrocki and Yang both going into season 3, it’s clear our manager who reviewed and revised the entire transfer set up, will be very busy bhoy, when he gets back from holiday. All players from that awful summer of 2023 window with the exception of Stephen Welsh – still hampering our progress.
Will the money men sitting on £9OM earned FSR proof ready profit, put the supporters money back in circulation?
Our will they stockpile, changed days or is it, from when Tommy Burns fielded player transfers questions with a blunt – see Fergus.

KINGLubO
Friendlies in June, probably because the SFA are skint. Which reminds me, did the huns pay for the Hampden rent ?
Many of KT’s injury problems must date back to the first phase of his Celtic career. Early on in far too many games he was the target of deliberate foul play – often significantly after he had played the ball forward. The EPL is not source of KT’s injury problems. The SPL is.
CALL ME GERRY
Pedants CSC?
He is a clever bhoy.
I meant transfer fee of course, we sold him for £25M and paid nothing back to Arsenal to have him, at Parkhead again.
I think he’s proved his supporter credentials by rejecting other EPL side’s and I’m happy he’s home. He’ll be on good money for sure, better than Greg Taylor.
Not for ‘bigging him up’ as a player though, he’ll be back up especially if his injury record continues.
FWIW in essence we still need a replacement Left Back, invert type preferred so that BR can continue with his style. If it’s a developmental player or an oven ready is the question.

Burnley, as far as I am aware you have been a supporter of the board through thick and thin. Yet now you are questioning the state of our squad ( for the first time ever!) as a stick to beat the manager? That is quite some turnaround. If the Lawells were still running everything you’d be asking for patience. Pretty transparent.
I have been consistent in my position regarding recruitment on this site for years. Regardless of who is running the process we never plan or act from a position of strength. In my opinion nothing ever changes no matter who is in charge. The only consistent is Desmond.
I’ll be amazed if we go into our first competitive matches with a stronger first eleven.
