Killie hope to stop another treble

217

It was Kilmarnock who denied Celtic a treble last season, when they stuck to plan and delivered a 1-0 League Cup win at Rugby Park.  Derek McInnes is short of quality but knows how to get results against Celtic, he will come with a plan tomorrow.

Celtic have been imperious at home this season, Aberdeen are the only Scottish side who have avoided defeat when visiting this season.  This form should fortify confidence for tomorrow’s Scottish Cup tie.

I expect to see Kuhn return to the starting lineup, with Kyogo through the middle. Get the job done, Celtic.

Matt ORiley was fantastic under Ange.

Rangers at CP in Feb Ange first season or when he stepped back to play Cal role early in Ange season 2.

Brendan’s head talks re development Reality is in 6 months I doubt he improved much.

We are struggling to sell 45,000 tomorrow. I doubt it will be a lot more than half full.

Hopefully the players have more interest in the game than the fans seem to. Especially as prices were reduced a fair bit.

Yet the to me, to you, to me, to you routine of Scales or Trusty is there alright. Ironic, that arguably our best defensive shut out came when both played against Atalanta?

Au Contraire, I think Trusty will start, and him and CCV are a plan.

Do you honestly think 17.30 on a Saturday night is a good time to play football.?

  6. BURNLEY78 @ 3:30 PM,

Yes, Matt was great under Ange – not everyone noticed that.*

When Ange left, you said Celtic had, had there best twenty years in the history of the Club

Now here’s another game back in the halcyon days when we lost one nil to Killie

    Robbie Keane’s debut….

Now, are you telling me things have deteriorated that badly in the last eighteen months that we are so very much worse than we were then?

    Because I’m not seeing it…

What was great about those Halcyon days and so rank rotten about us now!?

    * Of course much better under BR&Co and Brendan Rodgers doubled his value and got a record breaking transfer fee.

    Hail Hail

  7. surely it is killie cant sell their last 300 tickets, the whole away section is allocated to them.

  8. bournesouprecipe on

Reckon anything above 30K is a good Cup tie crowd with a CL game to come, following four home league games. Throw in two of our longest away trips and the ordinary supporters are bound to be feeling the pinch.

It’s not the best. I do agree. It’s also not the worst. I travel from Fife to our games so it does take a fair bit of the day out but the benefit tomorrow for me is I can go watch my lad play as he has a 2pm kick off at the National Training Centre and still get through to the game on time. So for once a weird time works personally.

I prefer it to 12pm or 12.30pm or the Sunday ones which I note rangers have had virtually a whole season of this season. I noticed they have only had 3 x 3pm Saturday games this season and only one of them at Ibrox !

    Burnley78 @ 3:30pm.

    I hear you.

Matt O’Riley came in under Ange and initially struggled just a bit for consistency in applying Ange’s methods before becoming a very effective player.

Credit to them both for Matt’s progression.

Equally I hear Chairbhoy @ 4:06pm (and I assume his data is correct).

Matt initially struggled just a bit for consistency in applying Brendan’s methods before becoming a very effective player.

Credit to them both for Matt’s progression from a goal involvement every 165 minutes to one every 119 minutes.

    Ange lifted him up.

Brendan took Ange’s lifted up player and lifted up further again.

    Credit to all three.

£28m of Credit if one is being materialistic.

  16. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

BTW – if Ange had stayed HE might have been the one to lift Matt up even further.

    But we’ll never know.

i was suprised he never took hin to tottingham.

but then again, i dont know that spurs fans would say ange has improved this player and that player.

    todays presser was terrible,

Surely league games are covered in season books and European games paid for in August.

For me it shows the interest of our supporters in this competition or indeed in winning trebles.

Hopefully the team see it differently. 5.30pm might upset them the way it seems to upset fans as well.

  19. and back to the estadio national.

a wee bit suprised the architect being called Jacobetty Rosa didnt raise a wee comment.

And another fun fact – i only remember because it is the wifes birthday.

the first ever european cup tie was played by Sporting Lisbon and Partiza Belgrade at the estadio national on 4th september 1955.

Re MOR goals as a crude but important measure.

Note he played in Cal role for a decent part of 22/3. Our style was also different with Kyogo and strikers scoring far more of a share under Ange than Brendan.

I really hope you are right and I am wrong re our strategy and Brendan’s abilities. Increasingly I see the opposite. It will be very costly if he fails.

  21. BURNLEY78 @ 5:27 PM,

Well yes, not everyone agreed but I think he did great in the Calmac role.

    Yet it’s as…

BACK TO BASICS – GLASS HALF FULL @ 5:12 PM,

    …says

They both developed the player, he was asking good player to start with, with bags of potential.

That’s why the Club need to pull together – we need to build on success, maximise our gains.

Fholk are getting het up on some players price tag.

Yet for me it’s about value.

CCV wasn’t available for the Atalanta game.

We we’re lucky we had Trusty

He came in, played on the right side of defence, gave a MoTM performance.

I’m hoping it doesn’t happen but if we qualify to the last twenty four of the UCL by one point.

Trusty has already paid back his fee and then some…

For me that’s where the value lies, the accountants can slice and dice it any ways they please but if we as a Club can go up this level – for me we will have smashed a glass ceiling… the rewards will ve priceless

    Hail Hail

    Burnley 78 @ 5.17

It’s an expensive thing being a Celtic Supporter, the more successful Celtic are the more expensive it becomes, ST, CL, LC finals access to more flights to Europe, new CL format etc, etc. This season too many home games so close together, wasn’t good for the box office, crowds were noticeably smaller, and outwith festive norms.

On a broader note Fergus McCann was a very ‘sound businessman’ introducing the ST culture that has transformed Celtic in the last 30 years?

People thought he was over ambitious with 52K seats for Parkhead deliberately setting a high bar, given that crowds on average were often well under 30K. In the 1980’s the Evening Times printed EST ATT 18,000 nearly every game regardless, and Celtic didn’t always bother with Official attendance figures.

Anyway, Scottish Cup League Cup ties usually see a dip in the actual crowd, a big ask when there are a lot of the 52K not on the home tickets scheme for non league games.

Cup ties give room for other non ST’s or occasional fans, whole family, etc, etc, so tomorrow’s crowd against standard league opponents will be an interesting marker for demand in the way ahead.

  25. CHAIRBHOY on 17TH JANUARY 2025 4:06 PM

Don’t know if you’re purposely misunderstanding but the Celtic development model is nothing like moneyball.

I did explain why, several times but you don’t sent I have any interest in understanding just what we’re trying to do.

It kind of undermines your whole argument if you’re criticizing something that bears little resemblance to it. Easily done, though.

  26. It’s really not a difficult thing to grasp which does suggest you’re doing it for the purposes of winning an argument
