Killie prove you can get at this Rangers team

977

I watched Kilmarnock previous home game against Inverness, as shambolic a defensive performance as I have seen in the SPL.  Shipping six goals against the team who were, and remain, bottom of the league is the kind of result that can decimate team morale, but St Johnstone’s result at Ibrox last week offered some encouragement that you can get at this this Rangers team.

It’s worth pointing out a few things.  Rangers are still four points clear at the top of the league, if we were in that position we would rightly be delighted and confident.  Pascali’s goal for Kilmarnock was also only their second goal conceded in eight SPL away games and only their seventh overall in 16 games – getting on for half a season.  By comparison, Celtic have conceded 14 goals, including three at Kilmarnock.

While that defensive record is commendable, the loss of Steven Naismith leaves them disproportionately dependent on Nikica Jelavic to maintain their goal-scoring threat, and Jelavic is not known for season-long durability.

When news came through that Sone Aluko had paid his transfer fee to become a Rangers player few of us expected him to make as quick an impact on the league table as he has, single-handedly playing three Kilmarnock players onside at the goal.  This is an unfortunate start to the player’s Rangers career but Rangers fans have a reputation for scapegoating (among other things).  For some, Aluko’s card is marked.  He’ll need a lot of talent to recover from this one.

Thankfully most of these clowns disappear when the Huns have had a bad result.

But there will always be someone around to remind us we are four points behind the Huns – like we all suffer from amnesia.

  2. I honestly don’t see us as having the harder run in before we play them.

Dundee United are not a great side and I expect a win.

Hearts? Well who knows which Hearts will show up. They generally have a bad game at Celtic park and you must factor in their manager is in the stands and their players are minus money. Not a good recipe.

St Johnstone away is the hardest match as they are playing well.

Kilmarnock at home is never an easy game but I think we can beat them.

That mob on the other hand have:

Dunfermline – a poor team, an easy win BUT they struggle in most home games.

Hibs away – a team with a new manager who are very erratic but did beat them 3-0 last season

Inverness – again a hard match at home from a team who will stop them from playing – potential 0-0 again.

St Mirren away – A team who have already drawn with them and who will have most of the ball against them.

This season they have dropped points to teams who are normally banker bumper wins – St Johnstone, Hearts, St Mirren and now Kilmarnock

Celtic have dropped points to teams we normally give beatings to – St Johnstone, Hibs and Kilmarnock PLUS we normally lose one game at least at the Death Star and once a season at Tynecastle.

    This is telling.

Unfashionable sides appear to have improved while traditionally stronger sides are going down the pan – look at the state of Aberdeen.

Dundee United are not the side of the last few years simply because they have lost too many players.

Hearts players will be looking for a new team come January – GET TEMPLETON by any means necessary of he’ll end up with the filth (assuming they can pay his wages)

Hibs are hot and cold and minus OConnor are very low on goals.

Aberdeen are fighting relegation alongside Dunfermline, Inverness and Hibs

The more improved sides in the league – the two saints, Kilmarnock and (scumbag try only against Celtic) Motherwell are the teams who are giving the more fashionable sides problems.

What we learned today is simple – If Davis and Jelavic have a bad game, Rangers have nothing in reserve.

    Bedoya – a joke

    Ortiz – Where is he?

    Wallace – nothing special

    McKay – Who?

    Wylde – inconsistent

McCulloch – just in the team to kick and elbow the opposition

    Edu – garbage

Kirk Broadfoot – goal of a start for the opposition

    Whittaker – rotten defender

    Lafferty- total chancer

Their two centre backs might keep out a lot of goals but with a back 9 you tend to do that.

They are missing Ratboy big time and 30% of their goals are now out of the team.

Celtic are hitting form at the right time.

We have 2 extra matches in Europe but this game this week will determine what kind of team plays in Italy – a win and we go there with a chance to qualify, should we lose on Wednesday, who cares about the match in Italy as a contest.

    Celtic are also missing –

Rogne, Izzaguirre, Brown, K.Wilson, M.Wilson, Commons and we have only just got Charlie Mulgrew and Bangura back from injury.

Both Samaras and Hooper have had injuries this season also.

    6 players out.

They have 2 missing and they lose a game.

A long way to go but keep it going Celtic.

That decision would have been down to the publisher rather than Lenny.

  4. Strange enough that they’re travelling to play a “friendly” in Hamburg on Tuesday. Stranger that ESPN are showing the game live!

    Great weekend results wise,

I remember the hysteria on here when we were 3-0 down to Killie, glad I didnt join in.

Its a long road that has no turning.

    Poor Gary Speed,dreadful sad news,

Depression, what is it ,what does the word mean,The word is bandied about a so much “my team lost I’m depressed etc” that when someone is actually suffering from depression (in the proper clinical sense) most of us dont seem to appreciate the seriousness of it.Its the old “pull yourself together “attitude. But that is liking asking a man with a broken leg to play a football game.Because surely thats what depression is “a broken mind/spirit”

People who have spoken publicly of their battles with depression do a great service to help the wider public understand this illness

Especially “celebrities” or people in the public eye, like our own Neil Lennon.

By the way it shouldnt matter to anyone if he is referred to as Neil or as Lennon.whats the big deal

If I said “Larsson” or “McStay” was a great player would anyone say they should be referred to as Henrik or Paul.

Now if I said McCoist was a great player I could understand you all giving out

Anyway how about a songs debate just to get a good argument going

  9. Simple pleasures——

Stop for a P and a packet of fags at a service station on the autostrada between Catania and Siracusa.

On the way out , look up at the TV screen and it tells you ——–

    Kilmarnock 1 -Rangers Glasgow 0.

Even better when you were thinking that the game had yet to kick off.

I will never get used to these Stupid O Clock kick-off times

  10. Got home late last night and switched on the teletext and after a very enjoyable meal out with some friends it was an end to a perfect day when I saw Celts 5 – Saints 0 flash up on the screen. It gets even better to hear that Rangers dropped all three points and we’re 4 points adrift with a match in hand. Great to hear we got the match done and dusted well before fulltime and were not hanging on for dear life going into injury time.

We should be prepared to give Bangura time to settle and let’s not forget that the lad comes with the blessing of the mighty Henrik and that’s recommendation enough for me.

  11. harryhoodsdugbitme on

Awful news about Gary Speed. I can’t imagine how his family and friends will deal with it. Is it the male macho football world that he existed in that prevented him from getting help? I went to see ‘Take Shelter’ last night. Apart from the ending it was a very sobering take on mental illness and how it’s perceived. A very close family friend who from the outside had the whole world in front of him suffered the same outcome. Much more has to done to highlight this brutal illness but I fear the stigma attached to those afflicted must seem worse than any cure. Help is out there.

Funny, I feel the same and those were the two examples I was thinking of! As far as I was aware it was common practice to refer to footballers and managers by their second name. I believe it is done in every country in the world. It seems that cqn is the only place where it may be deemed “disrespectful”. Can’t get my head round that at all. Is it disrespectful to say “Lennon is a Celtic legend”?

  15. It just keeps gettin’ bettah, and bettah!

  16. Say what you like about spending money on GKs – but that lad Hart was brilliant.

Cruel deflection beat him – but he earned City a point today.

  17. harryhoodsdugbitme,

Men in general are far less likely than women to seek help for a mental illness. It’s the macho thing in society and fear of being seen as weak, mixed with the reluctance of men to talk about feelings.

There is still a tremendous amount of stigma around mental illness. Much is being done to address this and it is changing slowly, but it will be a very long battle.

Neil Lennon and others have done tremendous amounts of good by being public and honest about their struggles. Like any illness, mental illness can hit anyone and many people have taken comfort from the knowledge that guys seen as tough like our Neil can be so open in talking about the subject.

Haha, yes I agree there is a difference in the press and the “Walter” and “Alistair” references are nauseating. That’s not to say though that referring to Neil Lennon as “Lennon” or any other football person by their surname is disrespectful. It’s just common practice. I do it and will continue to do so. If anyone is offended by that they need to get a grip to be honest!
