Kilmarnock 2-2 Celtic

335

You know what happens when you fail to defend properly, so watching Celtic be punished for Izzie failing to stop a cross, Efe allowing a man to cut in front of him, and Izzie getting into a mess, allowing his man to get behind him and run into the box, will not be a surprise. Defend like that and you don’t deserve any more from the game.

There was a vastly more interesting aspect on display.

Commons invention for Griffiths’ 2nd minute goal was a treat, four minutes later Commons shot forced MacDonald into a save. Then on 8 minutes Rogic forced a save and 60 seconds later Griffiths shot from distance was saved. On 11 minutes Forrest’s shot was saved and on 17 minutes another Commons shot was saved.

In making that last shot, Commons grimaced in pain and that was that. Celtic didn’t have another shot on target until Nir Bitton’s spectacular goal. Kris retired to the bench soon after that grimace to pack ice on his thigh, and Celtic’s game fell apart.

What price that Malmo manager, Age Hereide, underlined the words Stop Commons in his notebook?

The remainder of the game was a lottery. We should have won, on the balance of chances, but we weren’t good enough to make sure. When Kris Commons gets that ice off, Ronny had better replace it with cotton wool.

Nice Panenka from Higginbotham.

    Gary67,

Ciftci is banned for 6 domestic games, so he won’t play on Saturday.

  2. Main points for me tonight were the performances of Janko.Rogic & the return of James Forrest back to his best

Also resting our main players was good management by Ronny considering the state of the killie Pitch

Our players should be refreshed fit and ready to or our biggest game of the season next week

Plus the Malmo manager would be confident he can get a result but we had 4 first team players out tonight in Lustig Broony, Armstrong,Boyatta which will make a difference

I think the next few training sessions taken by JC will be very tough on the players.

I know this mainly because of the look on his face when Izzie gave away the penalty.

In spite of the fact there is no material connection between his comments earlier in the week and tonight’s result.

Darn new site, iPhone and clumsy fingers!

As well as not closing out game without Kris our creativity went AWOL.

As for referee, professional performance nothing you can really complain vigorously about but would anyone have been surprised if the pen incident had it taken place at the other end would have resulted in a yellow for the attacker. Two mins injury time ??? 4 subs for a start. A number of agricultural challenges but of course evened up by stefan’s shoulder charge ‘assault’ :)

  5. Have to say am very surprised at the ease on this blog of accepting that result against the Leagues whipping boys. Hugely disappointed in the team selection – Bitton/Rogic …memories of Morton….and I go into my Yellow Brick Road analogy…finding a heart in that team is sometimes a stretch(Two above-Forrest/GMS..)…and when Brown isn’t there….no concept of leadership…

So a team selection of “potential Jessie’s” when your competitors are very much up against it…and so it proved tonight…

I firmly believe lesser teams will see that weakness …and bully us ….and the JC inconvenient remarks aside which pasted on their Dressing Room were always good for the draw …this early in the season I hope Ronny doesn’t think we are Arsenal…..cos they so don’t like up ’em

Of course he is, doh! Grifiths on Saturday, Ciftci on Wednesday

  7. Don’t care what anyone says…..

Worst Celtic team I’ve seen in my life…

We had the Maestro and John Collins in early 90’s….

The Huns were on Financial steroids but Liam Brady’s team would still have wiped the floor with our current lot.

More importantly Magnus from Mary’s meals on Newsnight now. Describing the fantastic work they are doing 1 million kids being fed – wow!

Yes it was a good advert for the Scottish game, particularly in comparison with some of the rubbish I watch from the EPL over the weekend.

It was open, end to end, with lots of shots on goal.

What more would a neutral spectator want?

  10. Anyone notice Saidy Janko rubbing his ankles after another late/illegal challenge fae the hammer throwers?

    I’m guessing he was thinking;

“Wtf? How is he not getting booked? In fact, how is that not a foul?”

Welcome to Scotland, Saidy! ( and Celtic in particular)

PS. Also noticed the 2 times that Connolly got fouled (one from Nir? One from SJ) he rolled about/overreacted like he been tazered. That’s taught that is.

    Let’s get some perspective here.

Liam Brady? You’re having me on.

I would much have preferred his assistant.

It’s no big deal. A draw away from home

The reaction on here is comical

And yes this from me who wanted ronny out after watching his first hour of competitive football ( I will be glad to see the back of him, but he is here for a while and good luck to him)

However we will win the league comfortably.

It’s the champions league group stages that matter.

Getting there is the big test

If we overcome Malmo, the season will have been a success before September. .

  13. Rudicantfail…. How long is it since Caldwell, mcmanus and telfer were staples in our back 4?

And it’s the worst celtic team you’ve seen?

    Gie’s peace….

SFTB a hope you placed an obvious apostrophe error in there ,in case they copy and paste that..smiley thing(don,t look for dodgy apostrophes btw) if the Hun cannot tell the difference between ..ex…and not …ex ..tis no oor baither …big braw smiley thing

  15. Not a great result.

    Didn’t see tonight’s game, working.

Are we better off than 12 months ago.

    Absolutely YES.

Confident of progressing in Europe, not a certainty, but we have a real chance.

A fairly unsettled team, as always at this time of the season.

Consistency will not come for some months, chopping and changing is inevitable at this time. We have a bigger goal than points we will make up later in the season.

Qualification for the CL is that goal.

I said repeatedly last season we would have a bumpy road with Ronny for a long time as he builds a squad, we are a good way down that road, but still have a way to go.

Stay calm and support the Hoops.

We’ve put up with this chancer for even longer …..

You’re just a hurting Hun. No more, no less.

  18. Robert you are being a rather disingenuous ragged trousered philanthropist?

The guys you mentioned played in a far more successful and better Hoops side under a proven manager.

That team would also have wiped the floor with our current lot.

I was always the voice of reason

Up until last year when ronny was appointed. But I just spent last season banging my head against a wall. The ronny out stuff offended people, that was never my intention . so I will just let time run its course

Well there’s a thing! All that possession and we end up with a draw. It has been on the cards as goals possession ratio must be near minus if there is such a thing! What’s wrong with shooting instead of over elaborate passing? Must be old age but I thought the easiest way to win a game is to put the fn ball in the net! BTW enjoyed everything else about the night. The singing and the staunin’ up the whole game.

A bit of perspective from you mi amigo :-)

Never were we going to win every game, and as per, it usually is at the start of the season we drop a few points, but when we don’t win, all hell breaks loose, hence my sense of entitlement comment.

And most on here went through the barren years, that makes it all the worse imo.

Rumours tonight Celtic have had £600K plus McGeough excepted for Scott Allan.

  24. Just back from Rugby Park and have only read the article.

Paul, no mention of VVD and GMS also being culpable for their second goal?

A strange, strange game of football.

In attack some of our play was scintillating and I’m really surprised to see no mention of Forrest’s performance tonight. He was excellent and you could see the players were trying to get him on the ball as often as possible. His pace, balance and directness were a joy to watch.

Why was he taken off? Unless Ronny has next week in mind?

Our attacking play was matched by some incredibly inept defending.

Mcmanus and Caldwell were part of a team that got to the CL last 16 and played exceedingly well in those matches. Best any Celtic team has performed in Europe since the 2003 Seville team.

A lot clutching at straws tonight.

killie were too aggressive? and blaming the referee.

    Actually that’s embarrassing.

  27. Pogmathonyahun aka Laird of the Smiles on

Ronnie decided to give some of his fringe players a run out tonight, so who better to do it against than the league’s “whipping boys”, it is a no win situation for him – especially on this blog. But for a very good performance by their keeper we would have won by 3 or 4 goals tonight. We are also point better off than we were at this point last year in a league that we won quite easily.

  28. Gary 67……thats old stuff….VvD and oor Goalie are to be swapped …and we have promised no to call them Zombie part timers…that smell…
