Kilmarnock 3-3 Celtic

1194

Celtic frittered away another two points at Kilmarnock this afternoon after a performance which ultimately showed depths of determination but was marked by shockingly bad organisation.

Kilmarnock’s opener in 25 minutes could not have been simpler.  An 80 yard high ball was collected on the edge of the Celtic penalty area by Heffernan, who turned and picked out the onrushing Dean Sheils, who was initially being marked by Beram Kayal but the Israeli failed to match Sheils run, allowing the Killie player time to pick his spot and score.

The home team were encouraged by the opening goal and continued to press forward.  Fraser Forster did well to turn over a blistering shot from Kelly which was destined for the top corner.  Kilmarnock’s pressure was rewarded on 40 minutes when Kayal and James Forrest stood off a ball conceding possession.  Sheils crossed for the offside Heffernan to score but the assistant referee didn’t flag so the goal stood.

Seconds before half time Charlie Mulgrew was short with a back pass and James Fowler chipped Forster to give Killie and three goal half time lead.

The first 28 minutes of the second half were miserable for Celtic as the team appeared resigned to a fate similar to the Celtic team which visited St Mirren Park in March 2010 but Anthony Stokes had other ideas.  Stokes missed what was surely the worst chance of his career early in the first half when the scores were still level, and saw a good penalty claim denied on 71 minutes, but instead of hiding he stepped forward.

James Forrest, who also stood up to be counted throughout, ran at the Killie midfield and was fouled 25 yards out.  Stokes struck the resultant free kick perfectly into the top left corner.

Two minutes later Stokes collected the ball from Ki 28 yards from goal in what seemed like a safe position but his swift turn and inch-perfect shot beat Jaakkola in the Kilmarnock goal.

Kilmarnock were now rattled and Celtic were level on 79 minutes.  Daniel Majstorovic got on the end of a long free kick at the back post and squared for Charlie Mulgrew who headed home.

Having scored three times within seven minutes and with over 10 minutes of the game remaining the Celtic support had reason to feel confident their team could collect all the points but it was Kilmarnock would should have tied up the win in the final minutes when Heffernan found himself unmarked inside the Celtic six yard box but headed over, however, the home team will be happy to have collected their first point in four games.

  1. BBC Scotland needs a dedicated enquiry, but the guilty parties working there are clearly aware of the limits they can work in. The rest of the meeja has never really went near them, even Murdoch’s ilk.

It applies to every major issue in the UK…the meeja, even the most independent, have some kind of control mechanism in place. If it’s not the licence board it’s advertising revenue.

PR companies have taken over….haven’t they Jack? Ya horrible, ugly, fat, wee humanity destroyer.

  2. All,

Does anyone have any connections with the Grampian Emerald CSC ?

There web site is problematic, and I want to contact them .

    today is just another day.

I keep coming back to one word that sums it all up for me ARROGANCE

i don’t use Celtic Quick News to post about politics and Scottish law nor will you read me putting in my penny’s worth about Criminalisatio, tax cases and

what or whats not sectarianism or racism.

I know my limit’s and leave that to the others that can express things far better than myself.

i call myself the tictalker because i feel comfortable talking about the two tic’s Celtic and tactics.

i am seriously considering stopping posting on here because im like a broken record.

Peter Lawwell this and that Dermot Desmond this and that. i dont get a flying duck about what they are doing today.

we have a team the players to compete and win the S.P.L but we don’t play them in a system or balance that can win games.

look at what we had today on the park and on the bench and tell me there’s not enough to beat st johnstone, hearts and killie.

it’s not players we need its a reality check of our management teams arrogance

we could sign Kaka tomorrow and lenny would play him and a system that didn’t suite the team.

we need to stop the bleeding quick but to do this you have to look at our teams weakness and make sure the teams hard to beat.

the team needs a holding midfielder if Neil cant see this its because he is arrogant. we are soft and need to toughen up our shape and balance.

if we do this until the end of the year we can go on a run.

in Neil i don’t trust until i get evidence. please stop playing 4-4-2

    Agreed. They don’t half.

Happy though that they are looking at all the issues put to them via the 27 appeals even though they are dealing with them as one.

Unlike BBC Scotland Complaints who pick 3 and focused on Hunifying reasonable response.

I have faith that the Editorial Trusts process will fall on our side.

How did you read the response?

  5. The thing that stung most today while watching what was a truly disturbing Celtic ‘performance’ was the thought that it could be Lenny’s last game (at 3-0 down I thought he would walk) and how Rangers fans and Irish haters and Catholic haters and Celtic haters everywhere would gloat at his failure.

Man, I want Lenny to be a successful Celtic manager for many more reasons than it means Celtic will have had success.

  6. Bhoys are we saying that this squad collectively are not the best squad in Scotland? The results would suggest there not but I cant accept that!! There is enough in there its up to the manager and the 3 amigos to get it out of them and so far this season its not happened? Why, last season everyone was all set for the “only beginning” and so far its been utter pash! Something is going on and its time we were told not going to happen I know!

It looks like certain players are causing trouble? The captain thing is very confusing how many have we had this season?? Looks like someone has lost the plot and decided what did I do and now Charlie, who everyone wanted shot of up till his new years game, is now captain! Nothing we can do till January but several players need to be shown the door as they think there better than they are or just dont have the bottle for Celtic Football Club and what it entails.

Right now NL has to start getting it right with what he has and hopefully he can. Maybe todays turn around and a result on Thursday night can kick start us.

  7. macjay1 for Neil Lennon on

No excuses for the result, but didn`t like the referee`s half time love-in with the Killie players.

    Lots of bonhomie.Arms round shoulders.

Particularly didn`t like the time wasted between Forrest going down and Stokes` first.

    One minute 20 secs. precisely.

    What`s that in percentage terms?

  8. tictalker @ 21:38

Was appreciating everything you said there until you said Lenny is “arrogant”.

He is not “arrogant”. That’s how Traynor and his ilk described him.

Really disappointed to hear you use that word amigo, your posts are usually high standard and worth a read imo.

A jilted player dropped from the first team and sold to a smaller team has an agenda.

The managers demeanor at a signing press conference cant be held up as evidence, maybe he had a bad curry the night before?

GS has had nothing but praise for the support he had from the Celtic board since he left. But then again maybe he signed one of those ” no (bad) talk agreements”

I think we have exhausted this one.

    We will agree to disagree.

Anyway, I found the reply fairly non-committal, so i e-mailed back thanking them for keeping me informed but expressing some exasperation at the length of time taken to get a decision and emphasising that I trust the BBC at national level to not have the same impulses as BBC Shortbread.

    Lucky you?

Where I was, where you where doesn’t change my views that we are being driven in to the ground when we should be totally Lording it over the only ‘competition’ we have.

I honestly expected we should be going into 2012 10 points ahead..not 10 points behind.

Did you see anything today that makes you believe we will go in to 2012 with confidence? Did you hear anything yesterday that makes you think anything is going to change?

That’s my frustration..Not being in Kilmarnock today doesn’t alter my view or make it less valid.

  12. tictalker

I agree with your analysis but the asides about the other topics on here were unnecessary and I would not use “arrogant” to describe Neil.

It would be interesting to know why a DM was not thought necessary. Perhaps Neil felt that we needed guys to pressure their back 6 as they tried t work the ball forward but we did not do that well either.

  13. Notthebus

    Pal.

You are correct.. the Celtic Manager is the Presiding Judge at the Court of Last Resort.

Every Player who either Enters the Celtic club Front Door, Fur the First Time or Leaves the Celtic Club by the Back Door… Fur the Last Time..

    Does so..

At the Behest and with the FULL Approval .. of

The Sitting Celtic Manager , at the Time..

    And at this Time

It is LENNY, who is solely Responsible for giving the Yea or the Nay ,to the question as to WHICH PLayer should Come or Leave the CLub

And oan whose authority dae Ah quote as to what is S.O.P. regarding All Transfer Transactions which take place within Our Club?

    Why

    None other than

    Mr.Neil Lennon,,

In answer to the Question as to who is Responsible for giving the

What personal assumptions ? that you don’t know how Celtic are run.

    You clearly don’t.

As for information, I was 100% correct with what I posted, it was against the spin coming out from CP and on here, I posted what I was told, the one and only thing I have posted from a source from CP.

who’s fault it is will always be debated….but I think your theory has a big HOLE in it…

We are in the doldrums and have been for 3 managers…the CEO and Chairman have been unchanged over this period?

So either there has been coercion between the last 3 managers or the CEO and Chair as constants are culpable?

  18. This post mortem won’t take long:

Kayal – Attitude stank to the high heavens from the first whistle. Moaning at everyone without doing a hand’s turn – Prima Donna.

Ki – Awful and hid per usual when things ain’t going right. I will not be be as critical on him as Kayal, because the Israeli as at least shown he can do it but didn’t bother today.

Well done to young Adam Matthews and James Forrest showing the senior players who the real men were today.

Stokesy – did well after getting a slap when claiming a penalty. If this is what he needs to play like the last 20 minutes I’m sure someone could oblige-:)

Ledley – disappointed as I expect more from him. at their 1st goal when he didn’t get the throw-in, he just stood there and watched the Kilmarnock player launch a high ball from a yard away.

i can’t even be bothered to post my thoughts on the others, but to come out and give a performance like that for 70 minutes, after a break and being 10 points behind is unforgivable.

Ref watch – no real bearing on the outcome of the match but the Kilmarnock right back fouled Joe Ledley twice before taking Stokes out – no yellow?

There was a leg-breaker at the end on young James also.
