Celtic frittered away another two points at Kilmarnock this afternoon after a performance which ultimately showed depths of determination but was marked by shockingly bad organisation.
Kilmarnock’s opener in 25 minutes could not have been simpler. An 80 yard high ball was collected on the edge of the Celtic penalty area by Heffernan, who turned and picked out the onrushing Dean Sheils, who was initially being marked by Beram Kayal but the Israeli failed to match Sheils run, allowing the Killie player time to pick his spot and score.
The home team were encouraged by the opening goal and continued to press forward. Fraser Forster did well to turn over a blistering shot from Kelly which was destined for the top corner. Kilmarnock’s pressure was rewarded on 40 minutes when Kayal and James Forrest stood off a ball conceding possession. Sheils crossed for the offside Heffernan to score but the assistant referee didn’t flag so the goal stood.
Seconds before half time Charlie Mulgrew was short with a back pass and James Fowler chipped Forster to give Killie and three goal half time lead.
The first 28 minutes of the second half were miserable for Celtic as the team appeared resigned to a fate similar to the Celtic team which visited St Mirren Park in March 2010 but Anthony Stokes had other ideas. Stokes missed what was surely the worst chance of his career early in the first half when the scores were still level, and saw a good penalty claim denied on 71 minutes, but instead of hiding he stepped forward.
James Forrest, who also stood up to be counted throughout, ran at the Killie midfield and was fouled 25 yards out. Stokes struck the resultant free kick perfectly into the top left corner.
Two minutes later Stokes collected the ball from Ki 28 yards from goal in what seemed like a safe position but his swift turn and inch-perfect shot beat Jaakkola in the Kilmarnock goal.
Kilmarnock were now rattled and Celtic were level on 79 minutes. Daniel Majstorovic got on the end of a long free kick at the back post and squared for Charlie Mulgrew who headed home.
Having scored three times within seven minutes and with over 10 minutes of the game remaining the Celtic support had reason to feel confident their team could collect all the points but it was Kilmarnock would should have tied up the win in the final minutes when Heffernan found himself unmarked inside the Celtic six yard box but headed over, however, the home team will be happy to have collected their first point in four games.

No one is questionong the The Searchers as no 1
Rio Bravo is my choice but willing to debate it’s merits.
I’m thinkinkg it would be better to call it CQNs top 10
Western movies.
BelfastCityCelt,
A Chara,
From earlier, 100% correct regarding our fans at the game today.
They are without equal.

Classic of a film, Clint is too bright to be a republican, defies belief. Never made a bad film.

Listen guys it was Killie we were playing today
They have hardly won a game this season
With more confidence they could have and probably should have won easily
Our fightback consisted of about 10 minutes out of the 90
Stokes score two but contributes very little to the team – if that doesn’t sound stupid
He’s our Boyd – might score against the dross but not trusted against better team – with good reason IMHO
The whole club is leaderless
DD has no great interest while we remain in Scotland
PL has too much say in the football decisions
NL is still learning and should never have been appointed in the first place CFC is too big a job for a novice – it pains me to say it but NL is not what we need now
We need a hard bitten pro who would be prepared to asseble a team capable of winning in Scotland. This nonsense about having to play “the Celtic way” is pure BS
There is only winning football or losing football
The huns know this and are favourites for 4 – yes 4 in a row!
The team are leaderless or are chosing to duck their resposibilities – do they want shot of NL? – thats the way it looks!
The owner in all but name is DD – he needs to decide what he wants
If he wants NL then he needs to back him with money in January and by binnng anyone causing trouble in the dressing room !

What about Gary Cooper in High Noon ?

Well chief – it was only a suggestion – and as you stated – they can save a lot of hassle for people whom are not the best at typing.
Sometimes a stupid smiley can say more than a thousand words. They are a wee bit immature though i suppose,so it probably better without them.
If i come up with any better ideas in the near future,i will let Paul67 know.Don’t be holding your collective breaths though – thinking is not my greatest virtue.
After the outstanding ending of Unforgiven, need to share this, having done so countless times here already (apols):

Evening lhads. Now the dust has settled on a topsy turvy saturday the positives are after being 3 down at half time away from home we got a point. The orcs after being 1up at home get a point. Who’s the happier tonight? Not them.
Doesnt disguise the fact that we have problems though. If lenny’s going to sort it he needs to wise up and grow a pair. Some players whose egos are bigger than their feet should be told in no uncertain circumstances that they are out the door come january and should be replaced now with hungrier youngsters from fringe and youth teams. They cant be any worse than the non triers who are obviously working their ticket.
I have seen some celtic sides that were not the most gifted or skilled but fought for the shirt. Today i couldnt stomach some players attitudes. If you dont want to give your all then go to the bolton’s or the wigans of this world and clear the space for players who will at least try.

Sitting now quiet punt before home and just seen ad for ESPN next few games.

Let’s hope Lenny sorts things out. I reckon we will only be 5 points behind them with game in hand in next month.

It’s a film that divides opinion.
I think it’s a mess but a beautiful mess, a bit of a Paddy McCourt of a film. Great to look at but, ultimately, won’t win prizes.

Small problem with that assertion, The hardcore Ulstermen have seen their land taken from them, and have come over here to a sympathetic land.
In ten years,I’ve seen more bigotry than in the previous forty.
And it will only get worse, sadly.

Very true, but those players listed were very decent individuals and proper professional footballers compared to what we have now

Haha very true ;) Yes Victor was very good and Mathews looks promising

Mulgrew is a true Celtic man, who also gives 100%, although IMO probably isn’t quite good enough but his commitment makes him a better player than most of the imposters out there
HH
Having had some time to calm down and reflect on a bizarre day, I intended to give what would in the main be a scathing man by man assessment of today’s performance.
But – the players are almost irrelvant. As is the CEO.
The real issue that requires a complete change of direction is the strategy. The CEO’s job is to execute the company strategy, so replacing Peter Lawell with another CEO won’t change the modus operandi of the club unless the core strategies are changed.
The wage structure requires review. Celtic should have a wage structure that not only allows 2 or 3 players above the current ceiling, but should demand it. Having a squad of 30 players is totally unnecessary and is an inefficient drain on valuable resources. There are half a dozen players at Celtic who, frankly, should not be at the club, are here as a result of this strategy and are drawing salaries that their talent and contribution does not warrant.
The signing of young players with potential should be a peripheral part of the strategy, not the core strategy. Too many players are being brought to the club with the view of moving them on to the EPL. Celtic should not be sold to players as a stepping stone. If they want to play for Celtic, sign them to play for Celtic. If they want to play in England, tell them to go to England and trun our attention to players who will commit their all in SPL league grounds when the going gets tough and the weather gets cold.
Loan signings should be for quality players, not potentials or maybes. We may strike gold occassionally, but more often than not we won’t and we will lose goals, games and points as we find out we haven’t struck gold.
Rather than rate today’s team, I thought I’d just list it.

Of all of these players who played today, Joe Ledley is slowly becoming the most reliable signing of all.
James Forrest and Anthony Stokes showed the desire that has been lacking in many of their squad mates.
Charlie Mulgrew made a howler and stood up to be counted thereafter, just as he has done since his move to central defence.
Victor Wanyama showed that he has the attitude and the talent to become the pivotal midfield player for Celtic that we thought Kayal might become. With twice the heart, twice the skill and twice the size.
Apart from that?
Biram Kayal should be shown the door, preferably from the other side of it.
Ki should be sold to the highest bidder in January.
A plan for a total clearout of non-contributors should commence on Monday morning.
A revised company/club strategy should be developed immediately and implemented from January.
And one final thought.
We have an abundance of great crossers of a ball in the team. Any chance of getting a striker with ability in the air? Please?
Gotta Get Ready fur Mass..

I must admit, I asked you that cos I sort of knew you would answer like you did, and I agree wholeheartdly, you put it better than I ever could, I apologise and muchas gracious :>)
This sentance sums things up for me.
“Do the players have off days because they are nervous and fearful of losing?”
I know we hurt, not a patch on what Lenny hurts imo.
In all honesty, Lenny wasn’t who I would have picked, but at the time, and given the choices who were on the table, I honestly believed he was up to the job, he had everything, he ticked all the boxes, and he started the ball rolling with the run at the end of last season.
Kick in the hate campaign, nobody factored in the hate the media would come out with, they saw what he could do, they responded, this in my opinion is the problem.
Collective hate is a hard thing to fight against, he must be wanting to win so bad, need I go on.
Just for the record,
I have never asked for PL to be sacked, I think he has failed in so many ways, he has done what has been asked of him, and done it as well as he could, he is still in a very well paid job, cos he is delivering as per instructed, I would change what is being asked of him, not sack him, if he then doesn’t deliver, then I will want him gone.
Thanks.

Big time macara.
That is the beauty about Celtic – sometimes it isn’t always about winning – it’s the minor things that ya notice.I can’t speak for anybody else, but sitting watching the game, depressed, losing 3-nil and our supporters start singing Faithful Through And Through! That was inspirational, and i was proud of them – for me that showed real character – more character than 52,000 going ballistic when we were hammering the huns 3-nil at home.
Things like that make our fans and our club what it is.
We are always liable to lose the odd battle, but we will never lose the war.
Unbowed and Unbroken,regardless…

Michael Cimino made one great film.
And Heavens Gate wasn’t it.
I try my very best not to be critical or sarcastic to other posters, regardless of how much I disagree with what they say. There’s no point getting into an argument on a computer. I believe 99.9% on here love Celtic as much as I do (and before u start Steinreignedsupreme and notthebus I have no proof!), but I really have no clue where the some posters get the belief that things will turn around and be ok. At no point this season has there been any sign that we are capable of going on an unbeaten run, doesn’t mean we can’t but I can’t see any light.

Agree re Mulgrew..he could be in a 1 horse race for this season’s POTY award.
Very disappointed to read reports on Kayal – I honestly had a lot of faith in him. If he just wants a move (and I can’t blame any player for having ambition) he needs to be promised his move in return for giving us all that he’s got as he has a lot to give.

Our fightback lasted 10 minutes when we scored 3 times
At the end Killie had better chances as Paul pointed out

Just looked up the club website
Says that the Board are John Reid, Tom Allison, PL, Eric Riley, and 4 non-execs DD, Brian Dufffy, Ian Livingstone & Brian Wilson
Do their schools overlap or does that not matter?
I can only see one connection between St. Als and St. Pat’s (which one?) and that’s the Saint bit.
Surely that was not your point? Do we need more non-denom educated Board members?
Paul
I believe that has been one of the reasons behind the Huns recent success. Although they are not a good team, they have a team full of Huns who play out of their skin every game for the club eg Laffarty, Davis, Weir, Naismith etc, whereas we are lacking in the amount of proper Celtic supporting people who understand what the club is truly about
HH
Celtic Support 1- The Rest of the World 0…
@ Paul67, Paul have you considered some sort of ‘like, dislike button’ or a ‘star’ rating that we could rate each post if so desired ? Thus giving feedback to the poster and the blog on that post. Or does it not fit with the blog style. Id like to be able to leave a short ‘agree, like’ note but maybe that’s my Facebook habit coming out. Thanks
watching match of the day
looking at the way man city set up with two holding midfielders at home is a way Celtic could be playing.
it offers so much freedom to attacking players.

The Shootist had to be the saddest Western of them all.
I liked the old John Ford classics – despite their rather harsh depiction of the “Ninjins”.
Geronimo must also be up their with the all-time greats.
The Outlaw Josie Wales was a goodun as well.
