BRENDAN RODGERS suffered his first domestic Cup defeat as Celtic manager at the 25th hurdle against Kilmarnock in the League Cup at Rugby Park in August.
An off-colour Hoops side, with new Bhoys Maik Nawrocki, Gustaf Lagerbielke, Odin Holm and Yang Hyun-jun making early appearances after their summer arrivals, struggled to gel against the home side who were up for the challenge.
The holders, who had beaten their Ibrox rivals 2-1 to lift the silverware in February the previous season, went down 1-0 against Derek McInnes’ side.
MIDFIELD BATTLE…Matt O’Riley and Liam Donnelly duel for possession at Rugby Park in December.
And it didn’t get much better when the champions returned to the venue on league business in December. On this occasion, the Hoops crashed 2-1 with the Ayrshire club coming back to score twice in the last 15 minutes to inflict the first league defeat on Rodgers since his return.
Celtic are looking for a much happier outcome this evening.
