The Celtic board has only one or two full time paid employees

It is there as legal requirement

    PL takes charge of all

Well having loads of money in the Bank with no intention of spending it

is not the answer also with the likes of Dermot Desmond @ the helm

the main shares holders Son are watching the shekels like a hawk

That’s my point, we certainly do need to move with the times however

that is easly said than done because DD & Co hold most of the shares

in our Club with no intention of selling them in fact when we the supporters

have raised a suggestion @ a previous AGM about getting a Supporter

Rep onto the Board they voted it down that is what we are up against

  2. fourstonecoppi on

Lot of gum bumpin’ on here……..we have generally always been shite starters to the season. BTW i believe most decent pro footballers dread a plastic pitch…..it could literally finish your career imo. You can quite literally see it in their approach to tackles and turning on the ball.

  3. fourstonecoppi on

PS as for the tory board et all……..as i’ve said before theres is no way in hell will they take a hit, pandemic or no pandemic, to their personal profit.

  4. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

Disappointing, but we move on. I do worry this virus is a great leveller – our fans are an asset, theirs are a liability. Has also led to our squad being weaker than last season. Griff situation a further significant problem.

I like Jullien and Ajer is great going forward, but anyone can see you can get at them, I would prioritise a big bruiser centre-half before another centre forward. Gerrard knows we can’t handle even journeymen bruiser CFs. That’s why he’s brought the big Swiss in. We also have no cover in that area for injuries. If we don’t fix that I fear we’re in bother.

  5. Julien just rusty then,

    What a relief,

He’s not a feckin big girl’s blouse and not bullied by every feckin hammer thrower he comes up against.

  6. More concerned about not having a mid fielder who can thread a pass to the cf. OE never got a pass all day.

Surely one of our coaches could see this and change it up, this is my concern.

  7. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Would 110% have won that game if John McGinn had been in the team.

    FACT.

    (Actually not)

Just the only missing ingredient on here.

    Did we get relegated today?

    Did we lose the league?

    Did we lose a match?

    No, no and no.

We played badly away from home at a ground we rarely excel at – and drew the match.

    Nothing more.

    Hail hail

    Keep The Faith

  8. I don’t think a bruiser of a center half would help with our main problem today which was breaking down a packed defence on a plastic pitch

One goal is never enough for us on plastic

  9. We as a Club, have a plastic pitch @ Lennoxtown, we should try using it every now & then.

It’s called the necessary “Preperation/Being Prepared”

After all, it’s not just Rugby Park, which uses a plastic pitch.

Also Livingston & Hamilton as well, use a plastic pitch, which is dry, & also slows the tempo

of a game down, so we would be prepared, & ready to adapt our style of play accordingly.

    Signed.

  10. Iniquitous

“Very true, but as financial brokers have possibly advised you – “Past results are no guarantee of future performance.”

    ———————————————-

    That advice works both ways.

The loss today does not mean that there will be lots more losses in future. In fact we have been hearing the same thing every year

-If we play like this we’ll never defend our title

    – If we play like this we’ll never get 3iar

    – If we play like this we’ll never get 4, 5 ,6, 7, 8 or 9iar.

What you never hear is :-

“Oh I got that wrong!. We actually did play like that again and still won the title, and, in some years, we played like that several times during the season and still won with a double figure points gap.

By looking through one end of the lens, you see complacency and attribute the dropped points today to that. How come these “complacent’ players win most matches whilst they are supposedly in this omplacent state, but then drop points unexpectedly again which must be taken to mean that they are doubly complacent; they are giving 200% lack of effort?

Nope!- It’s an upset-fan attribution, not an explanation. We lose games most seasons, we have drawn games in every season. It’s what counts at the end, when they give out the prizes, that makes the difference.

There are going to be more days like this. The trick is to make them as few as possible and to have fewer of them than your nearest rival. It is a trick our club has performed well for 9 years now.

One day, maybe even this year, we will fail to do so. The one reason that won’t be responsible for that is complacency. It will remain an unconvincing explanation, an accusation that has been made every year and been proven wrong every year, for 9 years now.

    Expected angst at result.

70% possession and tons of chances.

Sounds like lack of finishing and rustiness.

    We can come good.

    No need for panic.

  13. Good morning cqn from a clammy, grey but dry Garngad

It was the manner in which we were defeated yesterday that irked me. We ran out of ideas and had no impetus or sense of urgency/ up tempo until about the last 10 minutes.

As much as I love Lenny sitting with your arms folded on the bench does not cut it with me either.

We knew that before the season started we had to try and stay in front of sevco in case the season had to finish early and here we are in the 2nd game dropping points.

We will have plenty of chances to come back but it might just be the 4 games against them need all to be won.

  14. Terry McGuinness on

Given our difficulty with plastic pitch’s I wouldn’t be surprised to see more of them in SPFL.

I don’t think these pitch’s are our problem, it’s that we’re not cynical when confronted with them.

Why don’t we approach these pitch’s by standing our tallest striker on the edge of opposition’s box, and simply batter the ball up to him, and feed off the dropped ball’s?

People might ask why we’re being cynical, well it’s a cynical pitch.

I think Brendan played Killie on that pitch with an easy win for us.

But, then Killie changed their manager to, Steve Clark who had a more cynical set up, on the same pitch, with Brendan, not blaming the cynical tactic’s of Killie, because he knew it would make him look naive, he blamed the pitch, the same pitch that he’d no issues with, before Steve Clarke arrived.

Neil has become blown up somewhat over recent weeks, I hope he’s ok.

When the picture of LG appeared the other week I thought he looked lean and fit, and yet it was the blown up image of Neil, who sent LG home for not being in shape, that was strange.

    Hail, Hail.

  15. To drop points requires

    – the majority of our players to have a poor game

    – the team to play badly

    – the opposition to have a storming game

    – a red card against us

    – individual error at the back

    – referee mistake(s) in favour of the opposition

No red card, no referee mistake – erm was the ball out of play before the penalty? But the rest happened.

Normally during a game where we are struggling I can see reasons and also changes that could bring about a result.

Yesterday I could see that neither side of the pitch could hit the bye line and get a good cross in. And I thought that was due to the packed Kilmarnock defence doing its job extremely well. Which they did.

We couldn’t break through the middle with intricate passing or long balls, again good defending.

Some may roll their eyes when I say “the pitch”. Whilst I said before the game that it would be problematic because it hadn’t been watered and therefore passing and running with ball would be difficult.

But that’s not the only reason. I was wondering why we weren’t able to create much space. Lovely cross field balls to switch the play were quickly closed down, quicker than normal.

And then I realised. Kilmarnock have been very clever. They have reduced the width of their pitch. Not just for our game of course, it has to be for the whole season. But it did the job. Frimpong, Forrest, Elyounoussi, Taylor… no space to work in. Easier for defenders to block crosses, which they did repeatedly.

What is the solution. Long range shots, tried but on that pitch you need Nakamura or Rogic. High balls crossed from deep to a big target man. Nope, we ain’t got one of them.

Only a couple of near thing with attempted flying (?) headers from Forrest and Klimala near the end gave us hope.

I haven’t read back, will do. There will be some blaming the pitch (I am) and those saying we should be good enough to overcome (also true).

Finally. If Bolingoli is the answer then you’re asking the wrong question.

    Dembele May have been.

“One day, maybe even this year, we will fail to do so. The one reason that won’t be responsible for that is complacency. It will remain an unconvincing explanation, an accusation that has been made every year and been proven wrong every year, for 9 years now.”

You keep on making this straw man argument. It’s completely false that posters and Celtic fans in general have been worried about the league for the past 9 years, but the team has proven the doubters wrong- it’s complete rubbish.

The first league in 9IAR was during a different era while Oldco still existed, so not really apt for comparison.

The next 4 years had no Sevco, Hearts and Hibs were also absent at times- Motherwell finished 2nd twice during that time. People were not worrying about losing the league to Motherwell or Aberdeen.

The next season Brendan came in and eased any doubts that existed following the semi cup final of the Scottish cup the year prior. Tens of thousands came to see him be paraded at CP. Few, if any, were concerned that the Loaf would best EPL standard BR.

Next year we were off the back of an invincible treble and Sevco brought in Pedro and his caravan. Concern about winning the league? None. Another treble followed.

Then we had the amateur Stevie G, with stories of an inability to get a Pro Licence and saw pictures of them taking ice baths in bins in pre-season; another easy year was in store. Well, we still won the treble, but between a disastrous summer window, BR leaving, Neil being appointed in the showers and Sevco showing signs of being a decent team, the dynamic changed. There was concern when we went into the winter break neck and neck with Sevco, but that concern did carry some merit.

9 was a different animal and people were more concerned from the off. I think you can only legitimately attribute the ‘complacency that could cost us the league’ line to last season and this season. The rest is just a big straw man to justify your position.

However, people have been complaining of complacency in a European context and in the context of whether the team is as good as it could be. In that regard you are right; there are posters, myself included, who have continually advocated for a football first, not balance sheet first approach. But that does not translate into concern over the destination of the league title.

  17. “there are posters, myself included, who have continually advocated for a football first, not balance sheet first approach…”

    —-

The world of simple binary choices. God forbid if there is any complexity to deal with, say, a global pandemic off the top of my head? And all this from a 1-1 draw at Killie in early August.

  18. Yesterday was a systems failure again by Lenny. Poor tactics and formation.

Some might have missed it but Hibs won 4-1 at plastic Livi at the weekend, 18 shots (8 on target) with a 4-4-2 formation.

You can buy all the players you want, if they sit oin the bench or get deployed wrongly, we’ll drop the same points.

  19. Very disappointing performance yesterday and at times very frustrating and not just about how poor we were especially in the 2nd half, but in the way that the opposition were able to rag doll our defenders at times.

Their goalie must have had clean gloves in the 2nd half. Our goalie Visalis likewise.

  20. Disappointing and Frustrating…Yes !

However, when my head came off my pillow this morning…I was STILL a Celtic supporter !

    HH

  21. If there is a glimmer of hope this morning it is that Lenny made changes, although too late, with Klimala supporting Eddie, Brown hooked for a more progressive Ntcham and Boli for a very ineffective Taylor (too small, too slow and lacks creativity 121 for a celtic LB). We need better than both these LBs but Boli should have started yesterday.

It was early and it was a wake-up but only a cathartic exercise if we learn from it.

    HH

  22. Just to echo some of the sentiments made by SETTING FREE THE BEARS

I think it’s always helpful to go back and look at results from previous seasons. For example, in the invincibles season, we dropped some points early on to Inverness. Nobody was too worried because we had skelped them 5-1 in the previous game.

In the following season, we dropped 2 points at home to St Johnstone. We still strolled it.

In 18/19 we only won 3 games out of the first 6. We were beaten at Tynecastle and Rugby Park. Still won it.

Obviously, those who have been banging on the doomsday drum will seize any individual result as proof that it’s about to all crumble.

We can’t have it our way 38 games a season.

  23. @Big Wavy

Re binary choice. Funny that, most posters in support of the board will sight the demise of Oldco in support of our board’s choice to keep £10s of millions in the bank season on season, as if it is a choice of either running the club with circa £30m in cash or going into administration.

  24. Rolling_Stone

Everybody here is invested in Celtic, the team. There is no board v team narrative in that sense. The problems facing us over the years have been complex and we’ve got some things right, very right (as is evident by our success on the field) and some things wrong (propping up the OF brand).

I think we’ll spend again by October but of course it will be all ifs (ECL qualification) and buts (Eddie will go if he doesn’t play ECL as part of his development). My fear is not spending but spending well and having a system that works for us at home and abroad.

  25. Of course yesterday was difficult.

One thing about us Celtic supporters is we simply do not delude ourselves when the team are rotten.

But seriously some on here need to get a grip.

Some of the flak the board are getting is pretty insane.

The transfer window has 3 or 4 weeks to go and they have slashed out nearly 5 million on a goalkeeper.

Unlike ‘other’ clubs in Scotland we have a squad full of players with financial worth.

It is a bit more difficult for us to bring players in for modest fees that will go straight into the team.

The right deal can still be done but we have to play the transfer market game.Usually dictated by the mega cash circus of English football.

    Me?

I have complete confidence in our manager and our board to have us running smoothly within a few weeks and have the arrivals required in the team and squad.

I also think Neil Lennon is a brave manager and deep down he knows he simply has to get Ncham into that team.

The captain marvel Scott Brown for all his credit in the bank with our club was a spare part yesterday and we simply cannot afford to play him in games like yesterday when the opposition are being so negative and structured.

At his age he is simply not creative enough a player to offer anything but there will be plenty of matches in which he is required this season.

  26. Am I the only one who saw a massive penalty shout on Taylor?

I heard the team and bench scream for it

  27. TIMALOY29 on 10TH AUGUST 2020 10:17 AM

If Kilmarnock play like that against them, they will take points off them.

Yeah, a cloaned Kilmarnock football team.

  28. Kilmarnock FC, are not the only ones who reduce the width of their pitch, in the SPL.

Other clubs do it, along with Sevco.

  29. What was worrying about yesterday. Were our lack of attacking options from the bench.

No wide men and no Tom Rogic.

Also NL sitting with his arms folded looking at JK for answers. Not good enough from the management team.

  30. TIMALOY29 on 10TH AUGUST 2020 10:38 AM

Am I the only one who saw a massive penalty shout on Taylor?

I heard the team and bench scream for it.

This is what will happen, during the course of this Season.

    With us, going for 10IAR.

  31. & you would have thought, that JK would have learned this, when he was working

with BR, about making the necessary changes in a match.

  32. Rolling Stone

You keep on making this straw man argument. It’s completely false that posters and Celtic fans in general have been worried about the league for the past 9 years, but the team has proven the doubters wrong- it’s complete rubbish.

Oh Aye! And your evidence for this is that, looking back, you cannot recall anyone ever saying “if we play like this we’ll lose this league.” Well now, we have a facility to check on this blog’s past records- you can actually look it up rather than make it up.

Check out any match day where we dropped points, when the league was still undecided, or indeed any dropped points day between August and February, in a given year, and you will see this prediction. I guarantee it.

You might even see it being made by “The Hands Can’t Hit”. It was certainly made by posters like Donegal Danny, Sydney Tim, Tiny Tim, the policeman whose log in name I havve forgotten, and hosts of posters with 67 and 1888 in their monikers. It was a regular undeniable occurence- and it appeared again yesterday. Your attempt to portray it as a feature exclusive to the last two years will not survive a moment’s examination of the CQN historic record,

it was not just expressed for Motherwell or Aberdeen but also for Hearts when they were challenging. I’ll grant you that the sentiment did not last long in the Invincible season but you will still see the angst there applied to the unbeaten record. Your refusal or inability to recall it is unconvincing.

However, people have been complaining of complacency in a European context and in the context of whether the team is as good as it could be.

It’s not complacency that has been the accusation there; it has been unwillingness to spend at some unspecified bigger level, or about not getting our signings done in time, or about not being defensive enough in Europe, or about not being attacking enough against pub teams (which is any team not from England, France, Spain, Italy or Germany), or about not doing as well as Sevco, or about the lack of (somebody else’s) ambition. All the time omitting to mention that we are at a much higher level in the 21st century in Europe than we were in the last 20 years of the 20th century.

Some people just like a good complaint, even during the good times.

When you are on a good fairground ride, you can scream your dissatisfaction and shout “Faster! Faster!” or you can enjoy a good ride and hope it gets even better :-)

  33. lets all put yesterday’s result, down as a bad day @ the office, & move on.

We can not change the result, however our preperation for those types

of matches, has to be addressed, & rectified accordingly.

In other words, we have to prepare for those types of matches, that

lays ahead. Because Kilmarnock are not the only club, who use those

types of tactics @ the home venue. Livingston & Hamilton, use the

    same approach as well.
