  1. On the few occasions where the camera caught Neil’s expression, he looked impassive.

So, we can attribute any mood or sentiment we like to him, especially if we have mind reading qualifications to go along with the body language ones.

Maybe we need an animated manager like yon Mexican that Sevco had , or Kenny Shiels.

  2. CLQ2 Draw

Celtic (SCO) / Reykjavik (ISL v Ferencváros (HUN) / Djurgården (SWE)

    Aug 25/26

  3. Kris Commons is asserting that neither Chris Jullien or kris Ajer would get into a top 10 of Celtic centre Backs in the 21st century.

I am assuming he would rate Van Dijk, Mjallby, Valgaeren and Balde above them.

Who are the other 6? Is he including loanees like Denayer or Benkovic that we never had.

    List your top 10!

  4. So we are facing another seeded team, (Reykjavik Iceland) in our first qualifier.

That’s strange, considering seeded teams, normally face non seeded teams.

Anyway, Europe is not our top priority this Season, as we all know.

  5. Go tell the Spartim on

    Kris Commons ffs

I like both our CB’s but less and less as a pairing we need a left sided cb or at least one that as someone somewhere else put it, doesn’t make every Tom, Dick or Haddy look like Lewandowski

Every Uncle Tim will be out in force today, expect MacAvennie next.

Our transfer policy gambles every year, gambles we’ll win every league game and pray that we’ll get thru the European games with the squad we have, never gonna change, it is what it is but a lots left down to chance

  6. We need a whole new back four, so their is competition for places, that is what we

    really need.

So we are facing another seeded team, (Reykjavik Iceland) in our first qualifier.

Reykjavik were unseeded in round 1 and seeded teams are always drawn against unseeded teams.

Because the 2nd round draw is made before the 1st round is played, each pairing carries the seeding of the seeded team. This is normal procedure for qualifying draws.

  8. I think Commons is an idiot. A man who could hardly string a sentence together on TV, I suspect someone ghost writes his work to ensure the nouns, adjectives and subordinating conjunctions are all in the right order.

Anyway, I won a £10 yesterday in the BS bingo for guessing that the phrase ‘puts the cones out’ would resurface on CQN before dusk set in..

As predictable as a Commons onslaught on a Monday morning post Celtic disaster !

Another Home tie in the EUL cup is a nice wee pick me up….

According to an earlier poster, on this topic we are on. if you page back.

You will see that, they had Reykjavik down as a seeded team.

We need a whole new back four, so their is competition for places, that is what we really need.

Jaysus, take a day off will ye.

So Big Wavy, you are content, with what we have @ present, a make shift defence, with no

solid defender, & thread bare coverage, which is also make shift.

  12. Remember Big Wavy, all good teams are built out from the back.

For example MON’s past teams, & look @ Liverpool nowadays.

Even Pep @ Man City, are now starting to make changes, which

    is a fact.

  13. In the last five season we’ve played on plastic 19 times the league and kept a clean sheet 42% of the time

Again the rest of the league away from home its 50%

Our win rate on plastic is 63%, against the rest away from home it’s 72%

Hamilton, Kilmarnock and Livingston are, generally not as good teams as the rest of the teams in the league, and therefore you’d expect the percentages of our clean sheets and wins against them to be higher than against the other team, which suggest the advantage plastic gives to the teams is higher than the 8 and 9%.

We concede more often than not on plastic.

  14. AKBW1888 on 10TH AUGUST 2020 11:41 AM

Pep’s buying Ake, he isn’t an uncompromising defender

  15. Yes Celtic40Me, an ongoing problem which needs to be addressed asap, & adjust accordingly,

& being prepared for the callenges which lays ahead.

FFS. Our demise yesterday was based on no creativity, not an obsession with the backline or the brainfart had by Julien and Brown at the penalty.

Get the best out of our talented attacking players – find a system that has Callum further up the pitch, Ntcham playing, Rogic back playing, Forrest playing….a forward (Griff or Another) in the box….fix our obsession with being left leaning (look at Eddie’s No 10 play) and make us more difficult to play against. Wingers with pace and a trick (No Taylor please)…

We have good players across the squad. We need to supplement them but we had a system yesterday that let us down. Lenny got the memo but far too late. Had we started with the team that finished we would have created more chances.

It’s the system NOT the players. Comprende?

  17. I much prefer the calm, laid back , horizontal, matured, deep in thought, reflective sports manager, than the younger jumping about , ranting craziness of the over emotional in too deep manager.

Change the hoody for a suit though.

  18. Celtic40Me, Pep has made his team in the CL the past Season, more harder to beet.

Just ask Royal Madrid, they will vouch for that.

We concede too many soft goals, or being mugged easly type goals, & that’s a fact.

For example, you don’t see Bayern Munchen, give away cheap goals.

  19. AKBW 11.34.

What Embramike is telling you, is correct.

Anything else you read is incorrect.

But he’s not signing defenders who defend better to do it. He’s just spent 40m on a ball-playing left sided centre half

Yeah, 4-2-3-1, why do we not play 3-5-2 more regular, as I’ve mentioned recently in this debate, if you

page back. All strikers, need another striker to link up with.

What was a concern yesterday, is that we only had three atempts @ Kilmarnock’s goal frame, from

inside Kilmarnock’s the eighteen yard box, which is very poor to say the least.

The bottom line here Folks, is that we need to strengthen our defence, that is a fact.

Or else we are in for, more calamity & sloppy mistakes @ the sieve, if this problem

is not addressed asap, that is for sure.

Yeah Celtic40Me, however they (Bayern Munchen) where two goals up @ that point, &

overall five up in aggregate by then.

  28. All good & solid teams, are built out from the back, that is a fact.

No sloppy defending, when it maters. No conceding soft goals, when it maters.

Celtic40Me, what was the final result/agragate, of the said Bayern Munchen

& Chelsea CL tie, for Season 2019/20? Bayern Munchen went through by six

goals, to hardly conceding any goals @ the back, I rest my point.

Fine Celtic40Me, if you are content with the defence we have @

    present, that is your opinion.

However, a lot of posters on here including my self is not.

We are too weak, & suspect, in our defence that is a fact, & also

    our achiles heel @ present.

  33. Poor display from the celts, but early days . My real concern is not only the twin towers at the back ,who are very shaky , but our two full backs too . Elhamed is the man for the right back slot ,where we bought him for . As far as I’m concerned left back says it all when we take off Taylor, and bring on boli . We have gone back defensively since 2 seasons ago .imho frimpong / Taylor are both too wee to play fullback. If Neil wants frimpong in the team its outside right he should be , but that would mean dropping forrest and that ain’t going to happen , only on occasions have we seen what this boy is capable of doing . On his game he is an asset , just doesn’t give us it when it matters .as for the twin towers its there to be seen . Unsure , unsteady unreliable . We can do better with some money being spent . Said before and I will repeat it , the only danger from us winning 10 is in our own back yard HH

Yes I would agree. with what you are saying over all.

For example, we can get away with playing Frimpong @ the back in our Home Matches, however he is

found wanting @ the back, when we are playing away from Home. Also JK should be teaching Frimpong,

if he wants to defend properly, then one should not let the ball bounce, nor being too casual @ the back.

Clear ones lines, when put under pressure. Frimpong would be better utilised, playing on the right wing.

Also Greg Taylor, can put in some decent crosses most of the time, however he is another player who is

posted missing, when we get exposed @ the back. You are right, we need to strengthen our defence.

  35. Timaloy29………….Didn’t see the match yesterday but always disappointed when the Hoops drop points. Julien has been a good signing for Celtic but that was a stupid challenge by the Frenchman in a situation when there was little or no danger from the Killie forward.

Your stats are interesting and reveal that Celtic do drop points early going on previous season’s results. Let’s hope Lenny manages the aging Scott Brown situation and curtails his appearences during the season. Time for Oliver to make his mark.
