That makes sense… I recognise the 30k ceiling on redundancy payments well enough, unfortunately!
My friend had been told that there was an option to take 20k tax free and arond 6.5 k per annum ( taxable at prevailing rate of income tax) when reaches 60th Birthday, in 6 years.
i all gets complex. I hear what you say about tories of varying hues..
Thanks for info.

I’ve always loved Tennis….
Was at the O2 earlier in the week to watch Andy Murray fight and fight to get through a match he could easily have lost. Three hours and twenty minutes. (To be followed by a 3hour and 48 minutes follow up!)
I once saw a documentary of his regime as he strained every sinew of muscle and nerve to try to get to the pinnacle of his sport.
He has maintained that regime and enhanced it.
It is a different sport of course. The demands on body and muscle usage surely different…..but……
By God I’d let every player we have watch the effort Murray puts in, not only or even in match time. I think it would be an eye opener!!!
No doubt our bhoys are fine athletes but I wonder…..could they be finer?
Andy….you can never be a Lion but you are the Nation’s greatest legend since that sunny day in May 1967.
Awesome!!!

Re civil service pensions
I retired at 59 after 42 years service. I didn’t even get offered £1000.00 for each year I worked.
I had to commute some of my pension to enhance my lump sum.
The upside now,if it can be called upside, is my yearly pension is below the tax threshold
But going by what others say I may still be a bit luckier than those still left as the conditions are being eroded all the time according to my mates still working there.

Hoping to be back in April. If it’s still there it’s getting put in a bottle, set sail, only to be found in 2116 in Jamaica!
The Civil Service Compensation Scheme is not the Pension scheme but is closely related and admin’d by Civil Service Pensions. The CSCS is used to decide on your redundancy payment whether you take Voluntary Early Release or suffer compulsory redundancy. It was based on the number of years Service you have/had but was limited to 6 months pay if you had reached your pension scheme’s retirement age. It has now been reduced completely.
The NHS superannuation scheme is a totally different scheme and the teachers have another scheme. The changes to the CSCS have no impact on the lump sum. The government has already made major changes to the public service pension schemes which do not benefit future pensioners.
Lennybhoy Your 2022 Pension should not be impacted and it will have better benefits than your 2027 scheme. You are unlikely to have any more changes to your pension, but as I say don’t trust the government. My advice is take your pension when you can get it.
The 25% tax free applies to private/personal pension schemes and not occupational pension schemes. The government changed the rules here. The first 25% has always been tax free but you had to buy an annuity with the remaining 75%. Now you can take the whole fund with the first 25% tax free and the rest taxed in whatever tax band you are or use of other schemes such as ‘drawdown’ to reduce tax liabilities.
Of course if you are a hun you don’t pay your taxes.
