Weak in defence, but the midfield and attack look awesome.
Matthews has been in decent form, and did ok in the 3-3 game, where he played on the left, but up until now he hasn’t played as well when we depart from the usual 4-4-2, which we will do today with Commons given a roaming role. Hate to say it today of all days, but Loovens and Wilson have been disastrous in defence, although those disasters have come against sterner opposition than we’ll face today (Atletico Madrid and Rangers). Charlie plays well as LB in a 4-3-3 or 4-3-1-2, and will be keen to atone for what happened in the first half last time Celtic visited Rugby Park.
The midfield is, I believe, our strongest, although I’d qualify that by saying I’m basing that on the home game against Dunfermline – not exactly the toughest of tests, but the way the central 3, each with different qualities, combined was a joy to watch. Not only that, but Commons is THE choice when it comes to playing behind the strikers, and has an excellent record away to Kilmarnock.
Sammi and Hooper may lack the understanding of Stokes/Hooper (which, by the way, seems to have deserted them) but Sammi is playing at the top of his game, so it’s a question of who plays better alongside him. On past performances, Hooper shades it for me.
Great to see an all (real) Celtic panel on ESPN. I wonder if ESPN have realised the Celtic fans were leaving their channel in droves following their anti Celtic tripe match after match?

I live far from the madding crowd in deepest Englandshire, so I’ve no fellow Celts to watch the game with today. I can’t wait till my wee bhoy (15 months) is old enough to be as excited about days like this as I am.
C’mon the Celts!

Accepting Neil Lennon would be only picking 2 from Hooper/Stokes/Samaras I think this is about as strong a team as we could put out today given the suspensions and fitness issues.
If we go 4-2-3-1 as ESPN suggest then the “holding” two need to make sure they’re available at all times to get the ball out of our somewhat makeshift defence. Lack of width is a bit worrying but I think we get more out of Commons if he’s allowed to float around.

Pleasant change to see some real Celts dominating the ESPN studio line-up.
