King: if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage

1124

Newco chairman, Dave King, this evening issued a remarkable statement.  Not for the first time he referenced Celtic, but on this occasion, he became the first person inside the game to put the Stripping of Titles Rangers won during their EBT and DOS years on the table.

His statement also blankly contradicted an earlier statement he made, when he asserted, “I follow the logic of the argument that if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”

With the tax case lost, and many fair-minded agreeing with his earlier sentiment and calling for titles to be stripped, however, today King said:

“Whether the scheme was in place or not, or whether it survived tax scrutiny or not, made no difference whatsoever to the playing squad of the Club during that period and hence had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”

That’s:

“If we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”
Followed by:

“Had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”

“Competitive advantage.”

“No impact on the performance.”

In 2012 he even issued an apology and suggested “commercial reparation to the other clubs” was in order.

“Reparation” because “if we lose the tax case” we “gained some competitive advantage”.

In five years he moved from saying Rangers gained a competitive advantage because of the illegal EBT use, and commercial reparations to other clubs was due, to denying any wrongdoing whatsoever.

He should also have read the Celtic statement more carefully.  King today said Celtic, “have attempted to influence the footballing authorities to alter its historic football honours”.

Celtic’s statement called merely for a review, “We are sure now that the footballing authorities in Scotland will wish to review this matter. Celtic awaits the outcome of their review.”

The altering of football honours issue was not put on the table by our club – you can thank Dave King for that thought provoking notion.

Alas not, F-16’s dont distinguish friend from foe in built up areas.

  5. Alasdair,

As Brendan quite rightly said…… that ST Mirren had been the toughest opponents that SC tie.

I’m hoping our finest learn with Jims crew and the St Mirrens JR….. he seems to have his head screwed on and knows how to set up a team. Getting the goals is the harder part. It will be very interesting watching JR develop.

  13. Sionnach Abu on

On average, Paul 67 posts new between 12 – 2pm (BST). What’s hard about developing a sleeping pattern round that?

  14. Hi Paul67,

Another Good article… this nonsense needs to be highlighted.

Of Course NOT By Celtic… FC… PLC… or Any Club Official.

…Earlier yesterday I had seen DCK made a statement …

Read THETIMREAPER @ 3:42 PM, thought actually that’s a reasonable well balanced Statement, showing a bit of humility and a way forward.

Then I read O.G.RAFFERTY @ 4:10 PM post and realised it was an old statement… the one you quote from.

So, I read DCK’S actual “Personal” Statement… What a contrast. Yet it brought it home to me something; that first statement I read, how easily my enmity could be assuaged by a common sense reaction.

We’re not asking for that much, despite what David King would suggest.

Just a Review… After what’s gone on, is a Review – without Fear or Favour – really too much to Ask?

Still a few observations on Yesterday’s Statement; now as you point out, it would not have escaped many people, that DCK often contradicts himself. Yet there’s something I’ve noticed in his recent statements.

    There are basically two types…

The Official Statement, this generally deals with DCK’s or Sevco’s Legal or Contractual position. You can tell it was either drafted or run through by Lawyers, it tends to be frank & precise – such as in the case of the Takeover Appeal Board or The SD Contract or yada… yada…

The other is a PR announcement, these range from floundering puffery to deranged declarations.

Of course we saw both types of statement utilised simultaneously when the “New Kit” deal was launched.

Today’s Statement obviously falls into the latter category, and seems to be more nonsensical than usual.

I think this is due to the fact it’s trying to do too much…

Classic Deflection – from the appalling state of affairs Sevco find themselves in at the moment.

Entrenching Staunch views – Upping the anti with Celtic by misrepresenting our position while trying manufacture an old firm pitch battle.

The Blame Game – Trying to lay all off Rangers Woes at the door of Sir David Murray (now Whyte has been found innocent) while countering, SDM’s and Various other Professionals’ testimony regarding the use of EBT’s and Competency of Alastair Johnston’s Rangers Board.

Justifying the dire Financial and Sporting mismanagement of the Club, while pretending he’s over investing in the Football team.

It comes over as what it is, a desperate attempt at deflection, finger pointing and self preservation.

Notice it is not an Official Club Statement, no other Board member or Official has put their name to this.

    Hail Hail

  15. Cana malaria @ 1:57 AM,

Interesting one… Of Course Rangers played in UEFA Competitions, during the period in question with incorrectly registered Players, receiving illegal payments.

But don’t think they’re the way to go…

They’re unpredictable and if they fudged it, it would be viewed as a great victory for the Cheats… Another Chinese wall to hide behind.

    Hail Hail

  22. Gene – not sure how you secured that photo of me but I remember those days well.

  23. The Rangers brand and the SNP cult have been raping Scotland for twenty-five years and ten years respectively – this has only been possible because of support from a compliant and biased media.

What the misguided and bewildered Celtic fans who astonishingly back the SNP should be asking themselves is why our media are so cosily in bed with the RFC and SNP – maybe someday the ‘penny will drop’.

The chance of titles being stripped is as unlikely as independence – it will never happen. Common sense will kill the SNP – bigotry and a compliant media will save THE RANGERS.
