King’s very worrying trait, Gordon too late to the Celtic party

345

I like Gordon Strachan. I took to him when he was picked upon at Celtic, pretty much in the same way Fergus McCann was earlier. What he achieve in the Champions League put his more celebrated predecessor in the shade, but by then expectations, although not comparative resources, had increased beyond what was achievable.

He leaves Scotland in vastly better shape than it was when he took the job, there will certainly be more applicants to replace him than there was when he was appointed five years ago.

Still, the notion persists that Scotland’s resurgence over the last year has as much to do with Celtic’s correspondingly elevated performances than anything else. Gordon is now selecting Leigh Griffiths, universally acknowledged as our Most Valuable Player, as well as Stuart Armstrong, Kieran Tierney, Craig Gordon and James Forrest, players who struggled to get on the team sheet in earlier times.

He is not alone is missing the talent inherent in Armstrong, Forrest or Gordon. The latter was even dropped by Celtic last autumn. But it is the manager’s job to find and select the best talent, not yours or mine.

Do not get too animated about court representations yesterday that Dave King was Impecunious (def: penniless, in penury, indigent, destitute). I am sure he could buy and sell most of us. King’s QC informed Lord Bannatyne that he did not have the wherewithal to offer the £11m or so to buy the remaining shares in Newco, as instructed by the Takeover Board.

Before unseating the previous board, King also said he would invest tens of millions into the club, if necessary. I have no idea if King has the money to comply with the Takeover Board instruction, or to make funds available to the club, but what is clear is that he will say either, if it suits his purpose.

That’s a very worrying trait.capture-20171009-120341

    Dingwall.

Is the historic market town of the highlands – for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross-shire.

The name is from the Viking legacy of names.

Ting Vol – a meeting place; a “parliemont” in the French speak.

People took their name through the middle ages from that. “Dingwall” is a good clan name.

Long-time injured Ross County player Tony Dingwall, – from a good Dingwall, (town), family, was in my house this week.

I was feeling ill at the posts earlier that the name of Dingwall was being associated with some despicable nonentity that so happens to bear that name.

Just thought I’d get that of my chest!

The highland town of Dingwall’s people will be watching the game in Germany next week – willing you on as you represent us – as the Scottish Champions.

  8. Having just watched the highlights of the Saints V Sevco game, I would say that Sevco are one of the better sides in the League. To say otherwise is based on wishful thinking because we want them to be so bad that their demise is accelerated.

If your read back, you were lucky Dingwall didn’t try and dip you and the bhoys. His nickname is Dipper Dingwall. I always thought that was to do what the allegation of funds disappearing………. However after you namechecking him last night, along with a Gers legend, I’m not so sure now.

    Al McLean.

So as not to upset you, Dingwall is my favourite away trip in Scotland by a country mile. How can Dingwall and Inverness be so close and yet totally different experiences for the Celtic fans.

Although we have an excellent squad, we are very unfortunate that Brown and Armstrong are out at the same time. Ntcham has not yet got the presence required to fill the gap left when Broonie ,in particular, is not available.

I am in costa del sol in between Estepona and Puerto Banus and want to watch the game later.

I know that I. Can watch in Timmy’s Bar in Fuengirola but it’s going to take me an hour to get there, is there anywhere nearer I can watch.

  16. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Alasdair, I will refer him as Dark Mingwall so as not to connect him with your home town.

Alasdair, is the Pogues gig from St Patrick’s day 1988? Lynval Golding from the Specials also played that night.

A crowd of us were at that concert. It was a very good night but not as good as seeing them at the Barras. I have saw them in Edinburgh and London but as I said , the Pogues at the Barras , mid to late 80’s , were something else .

50 shades , Tony Ralston is injured I belleve , Gamboa might get a game,.

  17. Inchture Bhoy

At the Puerto Banus end of San Pedro, there is an area called Cortijo Blanco and a Pub Named the Emerald Bar. In spite of its name, English Football predominates on the Telly but they will show Celtic games on one of the screens. I think The Hogan Stand down near the new San Pedro Walkways will also show it.

It will be interesting to see what our starting line up will be today and what formation we will be set up in.

Will we go a back 4with Christian and Kieran at full back, Dedryck and Mikael in the middle of defence ? Will Moussa start with Leigh on the bench?

Will Damien Dallas let the Dundee players kick us off the pitch like they tried to do at Dens a few weeks ago ?

Is McCann still a horrible wee runt?

I’m a very happy old Papa Jobo this morning as all 121 picks have been sent in and it’s only just after 9am. Commiserations to the (so far) single faller and good luck to the remaining 120, although at least 1 more faller is certain.

  21. Some Bhoys here getting a wee bit concerned about improvement in Huns.

Saw their game last night and they weren’t great. It was a 50/50 game up to the red card, Huns got 2 late goals when Saints were down to ten.

It was inevitable that they would improve a bit as they got used to each other but they will still struggle to get the better of Hibs & The Sheep,

  22. Not wishing bad luck on anyone, but would love to see Chelsea, Man City and Tottenham all fail to win today :-)

With everyone who picked them today still having the opportunity to buy back their history, and zombie status, it would give a nice wee bost to the deserving causes this competition is supporting.

    ThumbsupCSC

  23. Corkcelt

My point was that it was better to see them as they really are. ie a good SPFL side. I felt ( and feel) that our desire for justice and honesty re who they really are colours our judgement about their standard as a team. In the SPFL there is us, a massive gap, then take your pick from Aberdeen, Hibs and Sevco.

  25. Wouldn’t disagree with that Jim. It is the greatest mistake ever to underestimate your opponents.

They are there and in any one off situation, they will be a threat..

The point I was trying to make is that 3 nil away to St, Johnstone seems a powerful display, but the scoreline flatters them & for most of the game there wasn’t much between the sides.

  26. Gary67, Thought I read somewhere that Jozo won’t be available, wouldn’t mind seeing Ajer getting a run.
