CELTIC midfielder Mika Baur has been given a dramatic call-up to the Germany squad by Jurgen Klopp.

The Hoops’ £6.8million summer recruit from newly-promoted Bundesliga outfit SC Paderborn also earned praise from Liverpool’s legendary manager who took charge of his country’s international side in the summer.

After naming TWO pools totalling 44 players for the forthcoming Nations League games, Klopp, speaking in a report in the Scottish Sun, said: “I consider him really exciting. He’s absolutely up for it.

“With this move, he’s taken on a very challenging step.

“We also spoke on the phone about the weather in Glasgow – something I know well from Liverpool!”

Klopp ended a two-year break from the game to take over after Germany’s World Cup exit against Paraguay at the last-32 stage.

Baur, who has been capped by his country from Under-18 level through to Unders-21, is one of 16 players to be handed their first senior international inclusion by Klopp.

The first squad will play the opening two Nations League games against Netherlands and Greece while the second, with the Celt involved, will take on Serbia and a second clash against the Greeks.

Before heading off, Baur faces two huge games for Celtic, starting tonight in the Europa League opener against Ferencvaros and then the Premiership encounter against Derek McInnes’ side – both at Parkhead – as the Hoops attempt to atone for their Premier Sports League Cup flop at Ibrox on Sunday.
