Kris Boyd comments best thing to happen to Celtic

The thought was put to me this morning that Kris Boyd’s ill-considered comments on the Celtic squad – that they are divided – could be the best thing that happened to the team this season.  Football clubs and footballers perform best with a ‘them’ to work against.  We had this briefly under Ronny, when Aberdeen kept in touch for five months of the season, but since then we have pretty much had the run of the place.

Boyd is a professional footballer playing in the same league as Celtic.  When an opponent comments on you or your team, the words carry greater resonance than they otherwise would.  I doubt newspaper clippings are pinned to dressing room doors, but everyone at Lennoxtown will have reacted to what a Kilmarnock player has said about them.

Then we had the “Aston Villa make their move” for Brendan Rodgers tat.  Brendan will leave Celtic eventually, but the entire planet knows it will not be for a team 15th placed in the Championship.  It is no indication of his or Celtic’s worth and insulting to suggest otherwise.

Footballers and managers are best with a point to prove.  Celtic are capable of winning every domestic game between now and the winter break.  Whatever has gone on at Lennoxtown this season, recent comments have given the squad plenty of motivation.

  1. You would think Steve Clark would be telling Boyd to shut it, the last thing you want to do as a manager is give the opposition a cause. If one of your players is as thick and useless as Boyd and is stoking the oppositions engine youi’d be wondering if a wage could be better spent. SC is no daft.

  2. If Boyd asked for a pint of Stella in my pub, ah’ d definitely give him mcewans. And p*** in it first. Then pap him oot!

  3. Agree with the gist of the article and said as much to my old man when he told me recently they were ‘ giving us dogs abuse in the papers again ‘ . Only serves to give everyone in paradise more fire in the ol’ belly to prove them wrong.

    Keep it coming ya mugs!

  4. Boyd suggests Celtic this and that.

Bringing the term reporting into disrepute

Lol , yes but you’ve usually paid for the pint before its handed over .

If people did’nt offer up opposite views do you think the blog would survive /prosper , in any case PAUL67 could pull the plug anytime for any reason , i would have thought he wpuld have done so before now .

  6. I would love to think Boyd’s comments were used to such good effect.

I often wonder how many of the actual squad live in a world that ever comes close to our supporters’ bubble?

For eg while I can imagine the Scottish born lads casting a wee glance at the rags, the three (now two) musketeers seemed to live in their own ecosse world that wouldn’t include the record, sun or radio snyde or shortbread. And glimpses into the lustig family via their social media seem to indicate a wee patch of Sweden in Scotland as their domestic bliss.

I wonder if the person most fired up by it was BR himself……which is good.

It’s a modern day mystery how he stays planted on the terra firma instead of taking off skywards zeppelin like :))

  8. my admiration for Brendan would be tarnished if I thought for one second a complete tool like Boyd had any influence on him or the teams moral..good or bad

  10. I have had the feeling for a wee while now that there is a concerted effort by some on here to get Paul67 to close CQN. It must be getting something right. Please keep going, Paul67.

CQN was a lifeline when I was in England. It is even more needed (by me for one) since I came back to Scotland.

    Lang may CQN’s lum reek.

  11. I suppose we’ll know soon enough, the last time we had an international break we lost all momentum.

That said , if we win the sequence of league matches from now till mid December, we’ll be looking very dominant

    St Johnstone

At this point Hibs, Aberdeen and Sevco away will take care of themselves- win those 3 and it will be a fantastic period befor the break.

As the term P1 was not used where I taught, it took me a while to work that bit out.

That apart, the remainder of the post was up to your normal standard .

Are you going to the Nov 10 Hootenanny?

  13. Incidentally, as it it non-Celtic time, did any CQNers watch the Programme on Mathematics on BBC4 last night?

    I found it fascinating.

I think you have you been posting on a Sevconian blog and flipped over to CQN without realising your caps lock was still ‘on’ …

100 T- I think there was a warning a few weeks ago about a rogue WhatsApp update.

Thanks for the reply Bada, yes I heard of that report, just not sure what to do, thanks.

    Hail hail,

    C’mon the hoops,

no chance me paying for a pint till it’s firmly in my mitt!

I understand your point about differing opinions and totally agree. Nobody likes a heated debate more than me. But there is a line between debate and abuse. Some of the comments recently are way beyond the boundary. I would be offended to be called a joke, or an apologist by a stranger, wouldn’t you?

JJ is actually one of the brightest. I don’t agree with his defence of P67 despite some of his leading articles. But the JJ’s bhoy’s intelligence, integrity and goodness I’ll vouch for and defend every time.

A definite taktic adopted by selekt hunned-up sleekit(s) determined to disrupt genuine support for Celtica….

We are a broad church and of-course enjoy diverse opinions while supporting the Club.

While Celtic is always a target for the huns…………… and huns in ither places,

CQN – This Dear Green Place is imo a Big target for sleekit disruptors who would gladly see poster after poster turn away from this channel and allow thur pals in ither dark places be about their crafty work for the guid o’ scoddish football…….

    Huins – at it!

  19. Bada!

    I notice you don`t dispute the `not the brightest ` part !!

    Anyway, cheerio for now,

Paul 67s main header states Celtic news, not lazy journalism.

You can’t get much lazier that copy and pasting Lawwells brief as your header in your blog.

I imagine that when Paul had the idea of setting the blog up he was wanting to report the truth behind the spin, not be a spin doctor for Lawwell, which showed up badly in the summer.

I was Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy last night but will try to watch it on catchup. As long as it doesn’t addle my wee history head!

I’ll have the wee mhan on the hoot weekend. Though his height, though perhaps less so his wee face, could see him served soon!

It was Hot Smokeds sarcastic dig at anyone with justified criticism that irked me.

He didn’t need to take the line that he did.

A disrespectful comment aimed at a fellow Celtic man, who dares to have a different opinion to yours.
