The thought was put to me this morning that Kris Boyd’s ill-considered comments on the Celtic squad – that they are divided – could be the best thing that happened to the team this season. Football clubs and footballers perform best with a ‘them’ to work against. We had this briefly under Ronny, when Aberdeen kept in touch for five months of the season, but since then we have pretty much had the run of the place.
Boyd is a professional footballer playing in the same league as Celtic. When an opponent comments on you or your team, the words carry greater resonance than they otherwise would. I doubt newspaper clippings are pinned to dressing room doors, but everyone at Lennoxtown will have reacted to what a Kilmarnock player has said about them.
Then we had the “Aston Villa make their move” for Brendan Rodgers tat. Brendan will leave Celtic eventually, but the entire planet knows it will not be for a team 15th placed in the Championship. It is no indication of his or Celtic’s worth and insulting to suggest otherwise.
Footballers and managers are best with a point to prove. Celtic are capable of winning every domestic game between now and the winter break. Whatever has gone on at Lennoxtown this season, recent comments have given the squad plenty of motivation.

You would think Steve Clark would be telling Boyd to shut it, the last thing you want to do as a manager is give the opposition a cause. If one of your players is as thick and useless as Boyd and is stoking the oppositions engine youi’d be wondering if a wage could be better spent. SC is no daft.

I would love to think Boyd’s comments were used to such good effect.
I often wonder how many of the actual squad live in a world that ever comes close to our supporters’ bubble?
For eg while I can imagine the Scottish born lads casting a wee glance at the rags, the three (now two) musketeers seemed to live in their own ecosse world that wouldn’t include the record, sun or radio snyde or shortbread. And glimpses into the lustig family via their social media seem to indicate a wee patch of Sweden in Scotland as their domestic bliss.
I wonder if the person most fired up by it was BR himself……which is good.

I have had the feeling for a wee while now that there is a concerted effort by some on here to get Paul67 to close CQN. It must be getting something right. Please keep going, Paul67.
CQN was a lifeline when I was in England. It is even more needed (by me for one) since I came back to Scotland.

I suppose we’ll know soon enough, the last time we had an international break we lost all momentum.

I understand your point about differing opinions and totally agree. Nobody likes a heated debate more than me. But there is a line between debate and abuse. Paul 67s main header states Celtic news, not lazy journalism.
You can’t get much lazier that copy and pasting Lawwells brief as your header in your blog.
I imagine that when Paul had the idea of setting the blog up he was wanting to report the truth behind the spin, not be a spin doctor for Lawwell, which showed up badly in the summer.
