The thought was put to me this morning that Kris Boyd’s ill-considered comments on the Celtic squad – that they are divided – could be the best thing that happened to the team this season. Football clubs and footballers perform best with a ‘them’ to work against. We had this briefly under Ronny, when Aberdeen kept in touch for five months of the season, but since then we have pretty much had the run of the place.
Boyd is a professional footballer playing in the same league as Celtic. When an opponent comments on you or your team, the words carry greater resonance than they otherwise would. I doubt newspaper clippings are pinned to dressing room doors, but everyone at Lennoxtown will have reacted to what a Kilmarnock player has said about them.
Then we had the “Aston Villa make their move” for Brendan Rodgers tat. Brendan will leave Celtic eventually, but the entire planet knows it will not be for a team 15th placed in the Championship. It is no indication of his or Celtic’s worth and insulting to suggest otherwise.
Footballers and managers are best with a point to prove. Celtic are capable of winning every domestic game between now and the winter break. Whatever has gone on at Lennoxtown this season, recent comments have given the squad plenty of motivation.

Celtic legend Willie Wallace has blasted Brendan Rodgers for not using Daniel Arzani once this season, claiming that he would sack the Hoops boss if he was on the board.
Manchester City signed Arzani, 19, from Melbourne City in the summer and instantly sent the Australia international on a two-year loan to Celtic.
However the attacker has not made a single appearance, not even on the bench, for the Bhoys, and Wallace is baffled by Rodgers’ decision to sign him and suggests that he should try to force an early exit away from Parkhead.
“He’s saying it’s going to be a while before he plays. Well, why are Celtic paying the wages and not Man City?” said Wallace, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“If I was the board at Celtic, I’d have kicked the manager’s a*** out the door.
“Why would you take Arzani for two years if he isn’t going to play in your team? The kid, for me, will finish up a better player than James Forrest.”
He added: “When I heard Rodgers say he wasn’t ready, I was baffled. Why take the boy if he thinks he’s not ready?
“If I was the lad, I’d ask to go back to City or go somewhere else to get a game.”
OPINION
Wallace’s opinion is a bit in the extreme as wanting Rodgers gone for not playing one player is a bit over the top. Rodgers has barely used Marvin Compper since spending £1million on him in January but you do not hear the same sort of calls. Arzani is an exciting young player and he should definitely be playing more, but it is still early days and there is plenty of time for him to impress. Celtic won 6-0 at the weekend and Forrest got four of them goals, so axing him to give Arzani some game-time right now would be madness. The Hoops are bound to be hit by injuries at some point and that could be when Arzani gets his chance to shine. It is only October and the Aussie ace still has well over a year left on his loan at Parkhead. Wallace needs to be patient because you can guarantee that Arzani is showing his patience right now.

If Arzani is not playing then Arzani is not ready. By all accounts he hasn’t eexactly shone in the reserves so i will trust the management on this one.

Willie Wallace is an undisputed Celtic legend, and a member of the greatest Scottish club side of all time. He’s more than entitled to his opinion.
What he’s not entitled to be is disrespectful to anyone, never mind our double-treble winning manager.

You might have garnered some publicity for your night in Monday, but I’m not sure it will necessarily correspond to more ticket sales.

Willie was at a CQN Golf Day a few years ago and appeared a smashing and humble guy. Perhaps this story, like so many, is being presented in a way that is very different from the intent of Willie`s actual comments.
