Kris, Nielson on opinions, careless cautions

731

Player who has been out since April in shock Uefa squad omission. The only surprise about Kris Commons and Uefa lists is that he was included for the earlier rounds, despite not pulling on a Celtic shirt since April through injury. He was there because there was space on the A list. He’s now been omitted because we signed Scott Sinclair and Brendan Rodgers needed to remove one name to keep his options open for a wildcard.

Kris’ chances of being fit enough to play are less than Patrick Roberts’ so his name came off the list.

I don’t habitually dig up managers at other clubs, but Robbie Nielson is testing the limits of incredulity. When asked about Scott Brown calling Jamie Walker a cheat, he said “If you have got an opinion on anything you are better just keeping it to yourself.”

This is the guy who can’t shut his mouth about referees, including an incident last season when he thought action should have been taken against……. Scott Brown.

Robbie, if you can dish it out but you can’t take it, maybe you are better just keeping your stray opinions to yourself.

We collected four yellow cards at Tynecastle: Gordon, Brown, Dembele and Sinclair. None of them incurred incurred when the ball was in play. Craig Gordon’s was for not going to his line at the Hearts penalty, Moussa Dembele’s was for knocking the ball away, Scott Sinclair’s was for running into the crowd after scoring a debut goal (he’s knew, he should learn, but it’s a clear yellow card) and Scott Brown’s for dissent.

If we’re going to tot up cautions, we should at least do it during play when there is some advantage to be won. Four conceded carelessly off the ball is unusual and could cost us later in the season.

Scott Brown in particular should take note, that was his second caution of the season for dissent, the first coming in Astana. Scott’s a hugely important player to Celtic, previous absences from Europe due to off-the-ball indiscretions should be acting as an inhibitor at this stage of his career.

  1. Tam Collins.

When was the last time you got fined for not doing your job properly, and who decided you were not doing your job properly, and were they impartial?

    Stop talking bollox.

  2. mullet and co 2 on

CQN are to Kris Commons what the Daily Record are to Rangers.

Does Lisa Hague write the articles now?

Kris could fit into the current team better than the previous 2 years but I think his card has been marked. Mind you if the reason he has not been selected is because he won’t be fit likely to go on loan to Hibs or be included in discussions re Aberdeen players that might like to come to Celtic?

  3. Paul67, just last week you were advocating Kris plays 15 minutes against Astana when even less prepared and fit to play. Now it is no surprise he has been left out when he is a week further forward in his fitness, which is it?

The booking players for leaving the field of play after scoring is a discretionary rule, which is virtually reserved for Celtic players, cheating in other words.

  5. JF — things starting to look up.

Hopefully his pudding boy physique is on the mend.

PR is part of it, somebody who wants to be the best and who has taken up the mantle of club “winger”.

JF has the choice of watching and clapping from the bench or getting fully involved. Huge amounts of work still to be done — in the manner of Sniffy’s management of the economy — three wasted years to be overcome and get his career back on track.

For the record I think that JF has more to his game and has more talent than AMcG.

However AMcG worked hard to fill in the gaps to his game and had a more winning attitude.

Hopefully JF really gets stuck in and challenges ScS for the “Prodigal Son” award of 2016/17.

    Both have lots to prove.

  7. How about this, get a yellow, leave the field for 10 mins (rugby sinbin).

I think that would be more effective than any fine.

Having said that, do we really want to give refs that power, they’re bad enough as it is. In fact, scrap that idea, I’ve changed my mind, leave it as it is.

Another issue for BR and his team to analyse.

How many players celebrate with the fans / leave the field of play?

    How many are booked?

ScS given the run that he had just made had little alternative but to leave the field of play.

He then had the choice of heading towards the main body of the Hertz support or dodging the punches and heading for the safety of his own support.

He had a good case until he tried to hug every fan on the front row and the zoomer jumped out the crowd and asked for a co-carry.

SJ has to take some of the blame.

His off field celebrations obviously alerted the MIB to the developing situation.

Please can I ask that you take the time to complete the consultation paper to repeal the OBaF Act. It will probably take longer than 10 minutes but this is out real opportunity to have our say on this illiberal piece of legislation.

Completed my response a few days ago. Agree with another poster (from earlier today) that the feedback process looks designed to put people off responding. I found it difficult not to swear. Anyways – keep fighting the good fight…

First, Happy Birthday to TD67’s wee ma. Hope she is being spoiled today and enjoys having family time.

Scrolled back to the last blog where mention was made of cyber bullying of the Res12 Bhoys.

This is totally unacceptable and hopefully Police Scotland are investigating. If funds are required for legal action to combat the evil fiends involved then CQN should be rallying round again

  11. Players running into the crowd is NOT a discretionary booking it is compulsory.

I see a Motherwell player was booked for running to the stand at Rugby Park in a goal celebration…..despite the fact the fans were only in the upper tier!!!!

Lots of players are not booked for this, if it was compulsary players would get booked EVERY time, they are not.

  13. Re ra mora tonight…

Motherwell will be hurting after their final day humiliation at Celtic Park last season. I think they will be trying to keep it very tight and play on the break. I think it will be a game requiring a good performance from Tom Rogic and the wide men. Patience will be required.

Let’s face it, patience will be required for a while as BR puts stamp and signature on the team. He was speaking about getting the mentality right at the weekend and that will be ongoing for a while. After that is in place he can develop the style of play. For the next good few weeks I reckon we will see solid performances but nothing scintillating until the moulding process is complete. I might be wrong (read “probably”) but I think it will be a narrow win tomorrow night.

I agree it is quite lengthy and I’m sure that’s not accidental. Despite that it is hugely important that all supporters take the time to make their feelings known.

  15. Ray Winstone's Big Disembodied Heid on

Something I noticed during the TV replay of the game on Sunday was that as Walker was about to take the penalty and the usual group of players were waiting to follow up the kick, one of the Hearts players was clearly holding a Celtic player back presumably to prevent him running in to pick up any rebound.

It’s not something I can remember seeing before.

Is this now Hearts’ policy? Foul and impede at every opportunity?

Are they the new Damned United?

  16. Leaving the field of play in celebration is not an automatic booking.

It is discretionary based on the effect that the players actions will have on the support in that area.

If the players actions are deemed to have caused people to move in a dangerous manner or if the players behaviour is seen to have caused overcrowding or crushing in a localised area then a booking will be forthcoming — or at least it should.

As has been noted the current cohort of the SFA MIB are not capable of handling this issue either sensibly or fairly.

Absolutely. Also agree with the remarks earlier that it’s important that people submit their own thoughts rather than a template

You say footballers should be subject to the same disciplinary procedures as ordinary workers.

You mean like being fined a couple of weeks wages for being 5 minutes late?

  19. A player must be cautioned if:

    • in the opinion of the referee, he makes gestures which are provocative, derisory or inflammatory

    • he climbs on to a perimeter fence to celebrate a goal being scored

    • he removes his shirt or covers his head with his shirt

    • he covers his head or face with a mask or other similar item

    Sinclair deserved his booking.

  21. Madmitch –

I seem to remember at the end of last season, when LG grabbed his 40th goal and ran to the crowd to celebrate with his toddler son, the referee decided not to book him, so your claim holds no water.
