KIERAN TIERNEY is standing by for his 50th Scotland cap in the friendly international against Iceland at Hampden this evening.

The returning Hoops hero, who will officially rejoin his boyhood idols on July 1, made his debut in a 1-0 win over Denmark at Hampden on March 10 2016 with former team-mate Kasper Schmeichel in goal for the visitors.

Tierney’s only goal so far came in another friendly against Poland in Glasgow six years later.

Now, the left-back, who quit Arsenal at the end of his contract following his initial record-breaking £25million move in the summer of 2019, is hoping to get the nod to make his half-century of appearances which will earn him a place in the Scotland Hall of Fame.

THE BHOY DANE GOOD…Kieran Tierney in action during his Scotland debut, a 1-0 win over Denmark at Hampden in March 2016.

Scots boss Steve Clarke, who will name his starting line-up an hour or so before tonight’s 7.45pm kick-off, has given Tierney’s return to the champions his seal of approval.

The international supremo, speaking to the Daily Record, said: “Kieran’s happy to be coming back up to Scotland to play.

“If Kieran’s happy, then I’m happy.

“More recently, it’s been the injury situation with Kieran. The one last summer stopped him having more game time.

“The six months before that, he’d been in Spain with Sociedad and did really well and it was good at Arsenal that he stayed and it ended up the way it did, by getting back in the team, getting regular minutes off the bench.”

Tierney, who celebrated his 28th birthday yesterday, won eight honours at Celtic first time-around and is looking to add to his medal haul following his welcome comeback to the hoops.
