KT’S BACK IN THE GOAL ROUTINE

KIERAN TIERNEY had every right to look extremely pleased as his wicked low shot eluded Kilmarnock keeper Eddie Beach for the champions’ second goal in the 4-0 win at Parkhead yesterday.

It was a rare event for the comeback Celt and you have to travel back almost nine and a half years to discover his first strike for the Hoops.

That effort came in a 7-0 home romp against Motherwell on May 15 2016.

Coincidentally, it was Ronny Deila’s last game in charge of the team before he made way for Brendan Rodgers’ first stint as Celtic gaffer.

HOW’S THIS FOR STARTERS? Kieran Tierney thumps in his first Celtic goal in the champions’ 7-0 tout of Motherwell at Parkhead on May 15 2016. Callum McGregor gets a close-up view.

JOY BHOY…a clearly delighted Kieran Tierney is hugged by Mikael Lustig after his debut strike against Motherwell.

Neil Lennon and Ange Postecoglou have also had spells in the Hoops’ dug-out since that goal against the Fir Parkers and, of course, Martin O’Neill is the man at the helm at the moment in an interim capacity.

Tierney is now one goal away from going into double figures and he was clearly overjoyed to add to Johnny Kenny’s first-half counter to ease some of the tension six minutes after the turnaround.

The Scotland international left-back, speaking to Celtic TV, said: “The goal was amazing. It’s my first goal since coming back and I think you could see the joy when I scored it.

“I’m delighted.

“We were disappointed the other night. It wasn’t our best performance, so to come here on this occasion, give the fans energy and goals, and to pick up a clean sheet, as well, was brilliant.”

Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels (pen) added to the convincing scoreline as the champions, bidding for a fifth successive title, moved to within seven points of Hearts with a game in hand.

Celtic are back on Premiership duty a week on Saturday when they face St Mirren in Paisley at the unusual kick-off time of 8pm.
