KT’S PRAISE FOR EURO VICTORS

KIERAN TIERNEY, Celtic’s skipper for the night in place of the injured Scott Brown, couldn’t disguise his disappointment at the 3-1 defeat to RB Salzburg.

The Hoops collapsed in the second-half after holding a 1-0 advantage at the interval courtesy of Odsonne Edouard’s early strike in the Europa League Group B encounter in Austria.

Tierney didn’t attempt to dodge responsibility as he admitted the performance after the turnaround just was not good enough and the defence would have to improve dramatically at this level.

He said: “You’re disappointed in the goals you concede, of course. But it is what it is. We’ll reflect on the game and see what we can do better and improve on.

\”It was a hard night, we got off to a great start with the goal then after that they were piling on the pressure.

“I think we coped well with the first-half, but the second-half they got a few goals, obviously.

“We knew it was going to be tough. We did well in the first-half, but not well enough in the second.”

James Forrest was red-carded in the 72nd minute as the referee awarded the Austrian champions a penalty-kick from which they hammered in their third goal.

Reflecting on the match official’s actions, Tierney added: “I think James said he slipped a bit, but from where I was I couldn’t see it clearly.

“I think Salzburg are a Champions League team, the standard they play at and the pressure. It’s a very hard place to come and get a result.

“They’ve shown that in the past with their record, so we are disappointed, but we know we played a great team, as well.”
