I’ve never been comfortable with the ‘Greatest of all time’ comparisons. Pele or Messi, Cruyff or Maradona? It is clearly impossible to compare players across different eras, different competitions or playing in different teams.
Which makes the return of Jota so interesting. Jota Mark I was a Celtic icon, who left for a new club record fee and a little piece of all our hearts. Then the pesky stats guys got all interested in Nicolas Kuhn this season. Nicolas’ goal contributions are a step up from those which elevated Jota to that iconic status.
The players are similar height (Jota is 2cm taller) and build, and are at the same stage of their career (Jota is 9 months older). They are both ripping it up in the Scottish Premiership and were star performers on Champions League duty in Munich last month (less so at Paisley on Saturday). There are clear differences, though.
Jota has the better touch and is more effective in close proximity to a defender. For this reason, opponents are reluctant to get too near him, as he can ghost away. Kuhn links with others better. He seems to have a helicopter view of the pitch, allowing him to understand movement beyond the vision of most.
Hopefully we get to keep both for a few seasons anyway, and get to answer the question of who is better with some hard data and lots of subjective analysis. On the Greatest of all time question, Ronaldinho did things on a football field I have not seen from anyone else.

Foist ?
Darn it all TBB !
I still can’t get my head around the governance and values incompatibilities that would exist between the 49ers and the G51-ers. Reading this, for eg, screams incongruity:
https://www.49ers.com/team/front-office-roster/denise-debartolo-york
‘In recognition of their community involvement, Denise and John have been honored with a number of accolades including the Children Discovery Museum’s Legacy for Children Award, City Year’s Service Leadership Award, Silicon Valley Exemplary Community Leadership Award by Silicon Valley FACES, Outstanding Corporate Philanthropy Award at the Catholic Charities/Catholic Youth Organization’s Loaves and Fishes Dinner, and annual inclusion on the Top Corporate Philanthropists list for the San Jose/Silicon Valley Business Journal and the San Francisco Business Times.
Through the York’s family foundation, an excess of $3 million over the past three years has been donated to support programs under the broad categories of Education and Literacy, Religious (multi-denominational), Underprivileged, Healthcare, Elderly, Diversity (including ethnic, LGBTQ+, gender and others).’
The Catholic Charities/Catholic Youth Organisation bit will grind the gears of yer average Hun right there !!
A warning Denise; do your proper due diligence on Toxic FC before you get involved, FFS!
Broadsword calling Danny boy
🎶 There’s only one buttered Barnet🎶
IF
(as you can see it’s a big if) the Saint Francis 49ers take over the huns and come up with a five year plan to get back to the top of the tree, I imagine it will be rejected by the Bears who will demand they immediately spend mullions and mullions and mullions…
T’was always the same…
“There’s only one buttered Barnet”
Long may the Barnet years continue…

Beware the Idah’s of March
The Madrid Derby last night was a great watch, the levels of skill on show were top drawer. World class players doing world class things. The Madrid forwards’ ability to carry the ball at top pace was breathtaking, Rodrigos goal, his composure at top speed showed what a great player he is. Wingers win games, which is why Brendan probably puts such importance on signing them.
A big question is how we fit Jota, Nic and Maeda into the starting line up and if we cant who gives way. All very effective in a Celtic shirt in different ways. We have a few months of the Scottish season left to get the correct balance but by July and August we will need to have the best team starting in the QL playoffs.
Nice problems to have though – with Idah, our best attacking options for a long time
WBC
I see what you did there.
BSR: Buttered or otherwise, there’s considerably less barnet than there used to be
Jota instead of Kuhn on Sunday, I think he’s been off it last couple of games, had a great season
TBB
Darn the hair does Jasmine care.
Who is this Ronald Dinio? Get him signed before the huns snap him up !
Get Maeda on a top wage and extended contract now, before someone comes in and removes him from our playing pool.

We can’t compete with the Billy Onaires.

Good afternoon all from the Victoria Bar. Shipbank Friday, Celtic Sunday, Cheltenham Tuesday- Friday. It’s all go ye know. Let the good times roll. 👍

Hmm. Not sure I agree with Paul’s assessment of Kuhn.
One skill was not mentioned.
He’s a faster runner than Jota (who is not slow).
In fact he’s just a fast runner.
Nic (or his coaches) … if you’ve wandered onto here?
Run past slow full backs more often please.
WBC on previous thread – thank for 1965 reference.
I quite like the fact the shameful scenes at Hampden in 2016 did NOT involve Celtic.
The lazy O** F*** narrative wouldn’t fly so they had to get creative.
And boy, did they get creative.
“Every single player was attacked. Thank goodness our noble fans didn’t think twice before rushing courageous to their aid.
What do you mean we lost the game?
SSHH !!!!
Don’t you know Scottie on the Enterprise is insanely jealous of the power of OUR deflector shields?”
BTW – the, ahem, media outlets that giddily peddled this nonsense 9 years ago ..
(Yes, R2ngers have been failing for that long)
… are the same ones salivating 49ers today.
Go figure.
Celtic40me – agreed on Madrid derby.
Great players versus great system.
Great watch.

The action : Our guy put your guy in hospital
The words : “We’re really sorry”
Throw the book at him (figuratively of course)
Lunchtime over.
Later …..
The Celtic exchange interview with David Low on financials and investments and extended share ownership was really excellent.
Now the big question – if Celtic plc had a new share issue, with the distinct objective to spend it all on infrastructure. And the matching shares option/offer meaning the big guys get to invest if they want to, but so do small shareholders, ad then new shareholders, is the appetite there ?
Last share issue was in 2005.
Would you invest next financial year if Celtic plc announced an issue to raise, lets say £100m.
Is there really an untapped appetite for this ?
Thursday 5th
The Welfare sent for me today to inform me of my father being taken ill to hospital. Tried to get me to crawl for a special visit with my family. I was distressed about my father’s illness but relieved that he has been released from hospital. No matter what, I must continue.
I had a threatening toothache today which worried me, but it is gone now.
I’ve read Atkins’ statement in the Commons, Mar dheá! (Atkins pledged that the British government would not budge an inch on its intransigent position.) It does not annoy me because my mind was prepared for such things and I know I can expect more of such, right to the bitter end.
I came across some verse in Kipling’s short stories; the extracts of verses before the stories are quite good. The one that I thought very good went like this:
The earth gave up her dead that tide,
Into our camp he came,
And said his say, and went his way,
And left our hearts aflame.
Keep tally on the gun butt score,
The vengeance we must take,
When God shall bring full reckoning,
For our dead comrade’s sake.
‘I hope not,’ said I to myself. But that hope was not even a hope, but a mere figure of speech. I have hope, indeed. All men must have hope and never lose heart. But my hope lies in the ultimate victory for my poor people. Is there any hope greater than that?
I’m saying prayers — crawler! (and a last minute one, some would say). But I believe in God, and I’ll be presumptuous and say he and I are getting on well this weather.
I can ignore the presence of food staring me straight in the face all the time. But I have this desire for brown wholemeal bread, butter, Dutch cheese and honey. Ha!! It is not damaging me, because, I think, ‘Well, human food can never keep a man alive forever,’ and I console myself with the fact that I’ll get a great feed up above (if I’m worthy).
But then I’m struck by this awful thought that they don’t eat food up there. But if there’s something better than brown wholemeal bread, cheese and honey, etcetera, then it can’t be bad.
The March winds are getting angry tonight, which reminds me that I’m twenty-seven on Monday. I must go, the road is just beginning, and tomorrow is another day. I am now 62 kgs and, in general, mentally and physically, I feel very good.

Good question, there will of course be some sounding out done ( a lot more than that I’d imagine) on it’s likely uptake and of course no one will know until the offer is made. I know a lot of people who are 40+ who were too young and too skint for the previous offers, so there may well be a lot of interest especially if it is to improve infrastructure not just the main stand but facilities in and around the stadium

Semms a bit churlish of me, given his often exceptional goals scored, but I would like him to use AJ more when he does overlap, and if he doesnt use him then shoot or cross earlier,

With no other insights than my own eyes and with the people I know, I do believe we have many thousands of lets say more affluent and wealthier middle class supporters than made up the demographics in the 90s.
The car parks on match day, the sold out hospitality, and the amount of cup final tickets allocated to Celtic park lounges day outs, well I do just think there is an untapped value there.
Low talked about Celtic charging fans for everything, ticket transactions, pictures with cups, as examples, the price of kids tickets for champions league, i think they care less about the lesser wealthy supporter.
I do believe the survey will be used to justify spending on the weathier supporters match day experiences.

Would the present major shareholders be worried that their shareholding would be diluted therefore their influence? David Low said that 20% of shareholders in Celtic plc are unknown and DD owns close to 40% of the remaining 80% so he holds around half of the shares in the club, what are his thoughts on this especially if he was not allowed to buy some or underwrite some of it? How many shares at the present share value would be needed to raise £100m after costs and what would this buy? I don’t think Celtic would need to ask the support to buy shares stadium naming sponsorship etc could cover it I think?
And how do you accomodate another 10 to 15k on the present road rail and bus network?
Kuhn Maeda Jota, that’s a CL forward line.No idea what the debate is about.
CELTIC 40 ME
Kuhn scored a goal in the CL comparable to the goals last night.
Maedas goal against Brugge, right up there..
Next season,in the CL,we will have a fully fit Jota,KT,and hopefully Schlupp.Thats without additions. We were a bawhair this time, next, who knows.Sometimes I wonder.Talking about Ariel shots of the park,as Paul was,Jotas pass to Kyogo in the CL,would not have been spotted by the James Watt telescope..
On a different planet, talking about the scum ,they have to pay, between,£ 5 to 6 million for players already there. Now they want to add,£ 7 million for Cerny, well, the lunatics do,to keep the same team of failures.Forget the media hype, they are Feked.
James Webb.Bloody text.

you offer the shares on a 1 for 1 bases to all the existing shareholders.
If dermot has 33% of existing shares, he is offered 33% of the new share issue,
But so is every shareholder.
You would have to imagine current owners with high percentage ownership would continue to want same percentage control.
Where it get interesting for me – the 20% of small shareholder investors missing, by default if they cannot be found today and take part in voting, then they obviously wont be buying new shares, so these get sold in effect to new people.
Current price is 170p per share
Market cap is £160m.
