Kuhn the prodigious

168

Three competitive games into the season and Nicolas Kuhn has scored in each of them.  The first was what is rapidly becoming a trademark move of his, cutting inside and along the front of the box before shooting, the second a run to the back post to be first to a cross, and yesterday’s from a rush on the keeper.

Two of these goals required speed as well as effort; qualities we see from Daizen Maeda in spades.  The relationship Nicolas has built with Reo Hatate is also noteworthy.  We have a more abundant select of talent on the wings than anywhere else in the squad, but after a period of selection changes last season, it’s very likely Nicolas and Daizen will be first choice for Champions League games this term.

The dirty little secret of team building is to find players with untapped potential like Nicolas and let them bloom.  More like this, please.

  1. Who brought kuhn to Celtic then ? Was he a project ? A first teamer ? A squader ?

Now that he becomes in form in a better team who takes the blame for that success ?

The game is over the dry bedders have won?

Not, but Celtic are playing so well quality counters might take a beating, and there’s still two weeks left. We are a stronger squad with Nicolas Kuhn Adam Idah and Kaspar Schmeichel, none of whom were here this time last year. We are stronger because eyes are on the prizes, and BR’s has reorganised and improved the Ange squad he inherited. Our game is a better product, the ball moves quicker than it did , the passes come sooner.

Injuries have started fairly quietly too, Kyogo wasn’t risked in the League Cup against a side we’d already just beaten. Depth of cover is another topic, for the SPL marathon and new format CL? The team is predictable CCV and Scales, AJ and Greg, and Battle of Britain best midfield of O’Riley CalMac and Hatate, all playing to their peak. Investing all the money in the squad was a Celtic board ‘thing’ but it dropped off the prepared script more than a decade ago.

Now that we have overcome ‘poverty,’ 50,000 for an over and above non ST, televised third trophy game, puts us on a different stratosphere, to Scotland and dozens of big clubs in Europe. We face a very different challenge of overcoming wealth, with continuous improvement.

Celtic Glasgow the only show in town.

Agreed. Terrific player. January window was a good one with him and Idah. Bringing in 2 quality players in a window is much better than the scattergun.

We are a fast team now. The huns defence is slower than a week in the jail…

  5. Magnificent crowd yesterday and so heartening to see many fanilies with children enjoying themselves.

Lovely day, good opposition and realistic pricing.

Brendan may not admit it but our style has changed. So much more attacking and entertaining. How on earth did we go into the break only 2-1 up. ?

Without exergating it could easily be 6 or 7.

We are looking good, and now for Europe.

  7. It seems to me that Nicolas Kuhn had developed as a player before he arrived at Celtic, we did pay a reputed £3mill for him after all. And had it not been for health issues he would have made a greater impact in the latter part of last season. We are now getting the benefit of a fully fit player, and one who, like Reo and Matt before him met my one key criteria, that he looked like he had played the game before, unlike the majority of projects brought in without any reference to Managers, including Brendan in his previous manifestation as manager and Ange in his second season at Celtic. Once bitten twice shy, Brendan also pressed the button on Adam Idah a player without which we would not have won the double. Message to the Board, leave it to the professionals, and keep rank and unqualified amateurs away from the decision making process

    Aye fair enough Paul.

    Kuhn deserves credit.

He has clearly improved from last season.

    Looks stronger and fitter.

Personally, I think there’s a bit of mental development still to go.

He was very effective yesterday but there were numerous examples of the promising positions fizzing out at him.

Daizen should be his role model.

  13. Lets not forget Bernardo.

I predict we have a future star in Paulo.

In the same manner that Maeda can cover the centre forward position, Liam Scales was a top left back with Aberdeen. He would have no problem moving over, has the added height if needed.

Sun reporter issues Ibrox LIQUIDATION warning

Bill Leckie has raised a LIQUIDATION comparison as a disastrous season unfolds for the 2012 Tribute Act founded by Charles Green.

At least in 2011 Craig Whyte had the use of Ibrox but his plans were run aground by Ally McCoist being unable to get his expensively paid side past Malmo and Maribor.

Three years ago Malmo struck a critical blow to the hopes of the new club, last week Dinamo Kiev did likewise to deny Chairman John Bennett access to the richest ever Champions League.

Most mainstream coverage has focussed on the implications for transfer business but Internet Bampots have been discussing ice cream and jelly with the bonus of the ‘agreement’ with Elite Sports returning to court this week.

Back in 2011 Rangers decided to hold onto the Income Tax and National Insurance deducted from wages to keep the show on the road, with a crippling wage bill Bennett and Phil Clement will have to be very creative to make it through to Season Ticket renewal time next spring.

Saturday’s 23,000 crowd against St Johnstone suggests that half of the club’s Season Ticket holders won’t be buying up Europa League packages which could lead to a bleak and expensive winter to put in a challenge to topple Selik.

Summing up the bleak environment facing the next CEO in The Sun, Leckie writes:

IN any other walk of life, you’d look at the job description and run a mile.

Wanted: Enthusiastic self-starter to run a company whose headquarters are unfit for purpose, whose customer base is deserting in droves, whose trading record is poor, whose key staff continually fail to hit crucial targets, yet who’ve just given the line manager of those key staff an improved contract.

We’re talking Rangers here. And the difficulties that lie in wait for whoever’s named their new Chief Executive Officer.

Or, at least, the difficulties those of us on the outside can see above the tip of the iceberg, because what else is discovered is anyone’s guess.

All that’s obvious from here is that they’re a club in the process of unravelling. And as history records all too starkly, last time this happened it went from bad to horrendous at the speed of light; from champions of Scotland in May 2011 to Third Division new boys 14 months later.

Now, I’m not saying Rangers are heading back towards liquidation. I don’t know nearly enough about their dealings to make that much of a doomsday prediction.

But you don’t need a degree in economics to know they’re in one hell of a mess. From an on-field record as serial losers when the chips are down, through the fiasco of the Copland Road rebuilding project.

There has been no updates from Chairman Bennett on the arrival of two boats to complete the upgrade of the Copland Road Stand to add 600 seats to the capacity.

If the first Europa League group stage match is played at Hampden then the three others will need to go ahead at the same venue.

In September 2022, despite losing the Europa League Final three months earlier the Ibrox club appeared on a UEFA ‘watch list’ over financial issues, in Scotland there are no Fair Play or Sustainability rules in place.

  15. If the first Europa League group stage match is played at Hampden then the three others will need to go ahead at the same venue.

    Didn’t know that…..5.30 on a Thursday at Hampden…..😀

  16. Bada Bing

You have to play all your European games in each stage eg Qualifiers / Group (league) / knockout in the same stadium.

So just us moving to Hampden like we did with Leeds or Ajax in 70s would not be allowed now.

It’s a real blow for them because europa has really stringent ground readiness needs etc. So no matter when they are able to go back to ibrox they are stuck at Hampden for the 4 games. It will hugely affect them.

  17. Bada Bing

That said they only have to get 8 points from 8 games to qualify for knockouts and they will almost certainly achieve that from the likely weaker pot 4 or 3 teams.

In a way we want them to succeed. Especially happy if they are sharing country tv europa pot with Hearts and getting poor crowds.

It will not even be profit making unless they are getting over 35,000 crowds apparently.

  18. Celtic Mac

    Aye sure

Anything bad blame those nasty Lawwell’s

Anything good give anyone else the credit.

Of course the 20 years of unparalleled success are while right sizing the business are entirely down to good luck. Imagine how good we would be if we had just spent to keep up with the Ranjurs eh ?

  19. Celtic icon’s life set for small screen

And now, to celebrate his life, Oscar-winning director Asif Kapadia, who won the Academy award for a documentary about Amy Winehouse called Amy, is set to document Dalglish’s career in a film called King Kenny.

Managing Director of Prime Video UK, Chris Bird was joined by Gabby Logan and Kenny Dalglish at the Prime Video Presents showcase event in London to make the announcement as reported by Advanced Television.

The movie will be streamed on Prime Video and is set for release in the UK in 2025 and will also cover Dalglish’s private life as well as his professional achievements. The film is already in production.

  20. Kuhn was the guy that quite a few on here said should never wear the Celtic shirt again when they saw him start out last season. Just shows you that patience is important as is the fact that that believing leaders behind the scenes at the club actually know what they’re doing – most of the time anyway,

  21. Rodgers explained that nothing has changed with O’Riley’s situation, since no club has yet matched Celtic’s asking price for the 23-year-old.

“I haven’t heard anything different than last week so there’s nothing new to add,” he said. “His mentality is phenomenal.

“He’s a player that’s continued to grow and you see the confidence that he’s playing the game with.

“I still think we need another player in that position. If he was to go, we’d need two more.

So far this summer, former loan players Adam Idah and Paulo Bernardo have returned on permanent deals, while Kasper Schmeichel has replaced Joe Hart in goals.

“I WILL NEED TO SPEAK TO THE BOARD,” said Rodgers on the prospect of recruits. “There’s a lot of work going on and there’s lots that we need to do, but for now it’s really about the players that are here.

    ….

The above interview is those silly enough to believe that Brendan Rodgers acts on his own when it comes to transfers, and the Celtic Board have NOTHING to do with transfers etc.

  22. “The above interview is for those silly enough to believe”.

What my earlier Post meant to state.

Minor correction to my earlier Post.

  23. Is there a Helpline for Celtic fans like me?

I can’t resist going on Rangers online blogs and posting comments like these –

“Your chairman Bennet said openly in a statement that rangers lose around £8m every year without profit from player sales !!!

Your current squad is worth peanuts.

You’re still paying the salaries of your recent failed managers and Clementine gets a new deal ???

Always been a financial basket case living (and dying) outwith your means.

For every £5 Celtic spend we’ll borrow £10.

Trying to catch Celtic caused the financial recklessness that brought ‘Liquidation’ (google it) , not a financial meltdown you stated.

Look it up, your ‘Incorporated’ (google it) entity which includes the club died !!!!

Sevco was created and then renamed ’The Rangers’

Your place in Scottish football was required by the officials to maintain their well paid SFA jobs so they went along with it.

We know it, you know it, and we know that you know it !!!!

    And

“The gap now is way way bigger, you haven’t got a hope of catching up with Celtic in the ‘few year rebuild’ you mentioned.

Get used to being 2nd best with an occasional highlight, the pain will be easier to Bear (sic) “

    I need help….

I might be being harsh but to me he still makes loads of bad decisions, but he’s undoubtedly improved. I think 1st Sept might tell us much more.
