Kuhn the prodigious

168

Three competitive games into the season and Nicolas Kuhn has scored in each of them.  The first was what is rapidly becoming a trademark move of his, cutting inside and along the front of the box before shooting, the second a run to the back post to be first to a cross, and yesterday’s from a rush on the keeper.

Two of these goals required speed as well as effort; qualities we see from Daizen Maeda in spades.  The relationship Nicolas has built with Reo Hatate is also noteworthy.  We have a more abundant select of talent on the wings than anywhere else in the squad, but after a period of selection changes last season, it’s very likely Nicolas and Daizen will be first choice for Champions League games this term.

The dirty little secret of team building is to find players with untapped potential like Nicolas and let them bloom.  More like this, please.

Maybe other clubs from real football leagues see Celtic through realistic lenses, and not green and white beer goggles?

Who is MOR being measured against in the SPL one horse league?

Maybe real clubs look at MOR in the CL and other European games and see that MOR is just one of a team of duffers woefully out of their depth?

Maybe the team look like duffers on the European stage because they have a manager who couldn`t kick his own arse at European level, same as Ange.

  5. Can anyone tell me why clubs are speaking to Matt Oriley’s agent or Hatate’s?

I thought that when we had players on contract then prospective buyers had to ask us to speak to players or agents otherwise tapping up.

    Straightforward you would think.

Then why are we just hearing about Hatate wanting away?

Or has someone inside our club not told us that he wants away and has not been happy for a while?

Their our players they go on our terms.

     Thanks for your insightful response.

Alas, it seems that MOR was sufficiently impressive playing for a team of duffers in the CL against one of the top teams in La Liga that after facing him twice Atletico Madrid tried to sign him.

    Your welcome.

I think that if RM wanted MOR they would have got him.

Or maybe Sly Sports trying to get a rise out of some fans?

    And it working.

Kenny Dalglish in my opinion was Celtic’s greatest ever player and also,in my opinion, Kev J is a fanny.Thank you.

  8. Ordinary Joe…

    Clearly also ordinary:

    Fraser Forster

    Jeremy Frimpong

    Virgil van Dyjk

    Kris Ajer

    Kieran Tierney

    Liel Abada

    Ryan Christie

    Victor Wanyama

    Stuart Armstrong

    Odsonne Édouard

    Moussa Dembélé

All of these left Celtic and went on to do pretty well in for the most part bigger, better leagues. And if you could pull that lot back together in their prime (although I’d prefer Jota in for Armstrong), I reckon they’d give most “top 5 league” opposition a run for their money.

I’m gonna miss Matt. Just a stellar lad and brilliant player. He’s going to leave a yawning gap.

I like Luke McCowan and expect him to come in. A good player and a good Tim, but clearly not ar Matt’s level.

Bernardo is a great prospect. I think this might be his breakout year.

*I went to a farewell party over here for a member of a fitba team I was playing for, it was an over 30s side so no daft wee boys, the question posed was who was the greatest player you ever saw, the key word was saw, of course the huns there all said, to a man, or should I say a brother, emphatically it was a former player who flopped when he went down south.

My response was Alfredo Di Stefano but I did counter it with that the best Scottish player who in time could replace big Alfredo was Kenny, now this manure loud mouth twit supporter said sneeringly “what’s he ever done” to which I replied, “if he ever goes own south which I hope he disnae then you will know”, Kenny left not to long later and I hope he made that eejits life a misery.

My feelings too. The thing about Matt O’Riley is he is an extremely intelligent footballer. You see it in the speed with which he reacts to situations and create openings where there are none. Bernardo is a different player, a bit more traditional in his play, but I’ve seen one or two signs that he too has those skills or can develop them. By the way, I hope Matt stays one more season. The eyes of Europe’s top clubs will be on him if he stays for the CL.

  19. Carpe Diem

Perhaps Brighton or Southampton are comparative giants compared to previous generations.

Their annual turnover would suggest they are. Playing in the EPL suggests they have a place in the financial sun only a handful of other clubs in the world enjoy.

Rather than take a negative view of how far we have fallen it may be better to accept that reality.

  20. David 66

    You are sport on.

People inside the club are definitely not telling us something about Reo being unhappy.

Why would they ? Why should they ?

Who actually knows if he is unhappy or not ?

  21. Peterlstchfordsbelly

Spot on. Agree 100% that is if Matt is going.

Would prefer Maccowan to stay at Dundee to put the Ranjurs out of the league cup first.

Joking aside he has potential and attitude.

I thought that when we had players on contract then prospective buyers had to ask us to speak to players or agents otherwise tapping up.

    ——-

Reasonable observation D66 – the simple answer is times have changed.

FSR regs have removed the ability for ANY c;lub to make a “standalone” player purchase. Now akin to a chain of house sales.

We’re also seeing the veneer being stripped away by clubs. “We love him as a person” is now being replaced by a cold “tradeable asset” mindset.

It’s all intertwined – with most clubs now thinking several moves ahead – it is actually in their best interests to know that …. IF they decide to trade a player, once this decision has been made the deal is unlikely to be held up by personal terms – which have already been agreed in principle.

The other factor that appears to be in play (I have no direct evidence) is the putting down of an initial offer by the purchasing club. (lower than a club wants but clearly demonstrating intent).

This seems to trigger a (fairly candid) back and forth negotiation until a deal is done.
