Kuhn the prodigious

168

Three competitive games into the season and Nicolas Kuhn has scored in each of them.  The first was what is rapidly becoming a trademark move of his, cutting inside and along the front of the box before shooting, the second a run to the back post to be first to a cross, and yesterday’s from a rush on the keeper.

Two of these goals required speed as well as effort; qualities we see from Daizen Maeda in spades.  The relationship Nicolas has built with Reo Hatate is also noteworthy.  We have a more abundant select of talent on the wings than anywhere else in the squad, but after a period of selection changes last season, it’s very likely Nicolas and Daizen will be first choice for Champions League games this term.

The dirty little secret of team building is to find players with untapped potential like Nicolas and let them bloom.  More like this, please.

As interest in Matt grows and bids increase , I hope we can continue our upward trajectory by replacing him with similar quality . That won’t be easy , but I hope to never hear Brendan utter Neil Lennon’s immortal words,

“they sold my best players and replaced them with shite”.

  4. Jim White and Simon Jordan set to interview Brighton CEO Paul Barber on their show this morning. Will almost certainly ask him re any current bids for Matt O Reilly. Jim White who knows a bit about the transfer process from his work at Sky Sports will not miss such an opportunity. Will also give us an insight s to where Paul Barber sees Brighton now. We have had over twenty years of access to European football, but for Brighton last season it was probably their first ever venture across the Channel. A long way from the days they were on the rocks, did not even have a stadium of their own, and were playing in Gillingham. Those were the days my friends.

  7. So it seems all the claptrap from Column about improving VAR,was just that.He has now doubled down on the lie about the whistle. You know the one,Ref puts whistle in mouth, signals free kick position, with one hand, and who its for with other,

whilst turning his back on the game, that old inconclusive chestnut. Also shooshing away Saints claim for a penalty, when their player was wiped out by Dessers in the last minute.

So far,one stonewall penalty denied Hearts, two stonewall pens denied Celtic, and one episode of cheating, lying, and cover up.Marvellous.

Well done Willie, just carry on as before.

    Exactly TB!

Isn’t Collum the ref that gave them a penalty against us when he had his back to the incident?

Why anyone thought he’d do anything to favour us is deluded.

Just because the Huns hate him, doesn’t make him a friend of Celtic.

You don’t rise to a top position in the SFA without being on message and up to your eyes in dodgy handshakes.

With them in as much trouble as they have been since their inception in 2012, expect the honest mistakes to go through the roof again this season. As they did before the last club folded.

They need all the help they can get and the SFA will do their bit.

  9. Why are we loaning out a good CH,Internationl,to boot, when there were clubs trying to buy him.Boy could have went to Italy for 3.4 million in January, but we stopped it.

This boy has been treated poorly by us,and we have cost ourselves around £4 million in doing so.

  10. Paul Barber does not “like to talk about other clubs players”.

SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2024-25

RESULTS FROM GAME #3 CELTIC 3 HIBS 1 (MAEDA(2), KUHN)

    Good evening, friends.

Yet another fine performance as this group of players continue to entertain us and make voting difficult for all the right reasons.

A very healthy Sunday afternoon crowd didn’t have long to wait to see how our ‘new’ centre forward performed. Daizen Maeda certainly has a better final touch when playing centre forward rather than left wing and managed to put the ball in the net twice in the opening 15 minutes. Daizen, along with Nicolas, Matt and James all had an impressive opening to the game, being involved in everything that was good. The only things getting in Celtic’s way were the new corner flags that took a fair battering from the strong wind.

A recent Sentinel Celts article by Bobby highlighted the difficulty in trying to attract players who are not going to be first choice in their position. Well maybe having Daizen on our books solves the problem of the fabled third choice striker behind Kyogo and Adam.

Unlike last week’s encounter, Hibs did manage to make more of a game of it when they pulled a goal back in the 35th minute. But they failed to trouble Schmeichel again and never really looked like equalising. And after their failure to confidently play the ball across their own back line was punished by goal-a-game Kuhn, the contest was effectively over.

Second half substitutions saw some game time for Yang, Palma and returning cup final hero Idah and that reception from the crowd should have settled any doubts (if there were any) that he had made the right decision to join. But for me it was Bernardo’s time on the park that was most impressive of the 4, getting involved in loads of moves and hardly putting a foot wrong. A starting berth cannot be too far away.

A quarter final at home to Falkirk will be our next step towards winning our 119th major trophy.

We have now played 3 games this season, winning them all. We have scored 9 and conceded 1. But do you want to know what my favourite stat is? Well, in the 3 games that we’ve played, all 10 outfield players in those games have each received at least 1 vote. In short, absolutely nobody is playing badly!

As for the voting, it’s another great response, thank you. A huge thank you to the 84 who joined in this time around.

The total votes cast for each player are as follows, with my own nominations asterisked.

    Schmeichel: 0

    Johnston, A: 3

    Carter-Vickers: 2

    Scales: 1

    Taylor: 7

    McGregor: 42

    Hatate*: 24

    O’Riley: 17

    Kuhn*: 57

    Maeda*: 82

    Forrest: 17

    Idah: 0

    Yang: 0

    Palma: 0

    Bernardo: 0

And so, the players receiving POINTS for the game against Hibs are –

    Maeda – 5 points

    Kuhn – 4 points

    McGregor – 3 points

    Hatate – 2 points

    Forrest and O’Riley – 1 point each

And the overall positions after 3 games played are –

    11 points – Kuhn

    8 points – McGregor

    7 points – Hatate and O’Riley

    5 points – Maeda

3 points – Forrest and Taylor

1 point – Kyogo and Scales

0 points – Bernardo, Carter-Vickers, Holm, Idah, Johnston A., Johnston M., Maeda, Palma, Ralston, Schmeichel, Yang

Our next game is in the league, away to St Mirren next Sunday with a noon kick off. I will be on holiday in Spain but will still be collating the MOTM results. However, those results probably won’t be issued until the Tuesday mornings after each game.

Please keep spreading the word, anyone can vote after any game and join in at any time – just keep a note of the email address – sencelpoty@gmail.com
