Kyogo, icon who made Scotland a better place

629

This impact Kyogo made on Celtic is difficult to overestimate.  He cost three times more than any of our other recent players from Japan and established his credentials a week after touching down in Scotland.  In August 2021, Celtic were trophyless and at their lowest point this century.

Kyogo was the spark that ignited the club.  His perpetual motion, enthusiasm, selflessness and his goals, mostly his goals, gave us cause to hope for the future.  He also gave us 8 out of 10 trophies contested during his time in Glasgow.

His first virtuoso performance delivered a hattrick against Dundee.  We thought we were onto something special, but dare not dream of the levels he delivered.  Kyogo enjoys a big game and took special delight in scoring against Newco.  Including an incredible seven goals in 2023.  He terrorised them at Celtic Park, Hampden and Ibrox.

With him on the field, you could be playing badly, but knew something special could happen at any moment.  His hattrick of disallowed goals against Young Boys on Wednesday apparently bookends his time as an active Celtic icon.  His inactive icon status will last decades, though.

Without doubt, he is the best since Henrik Larsson – the only appropriate reference point.  We waited 20 years between the departure of Kenny Dalglish and Larsson’s arrival.  The 17 years between Henrik and Kyogo were filled with some great Celtic strikers, but none possessed the sheer magic of Kyogo.

It wasn’t just his play.  The man picked up litter, comforted injured opponents and wherever he went, made Scotland a better place.  I cannot see someone throw litter away without contrasting them to our hero.  He was an example of how to work hard and live your life.  And there was that smile.

I have been preaching Asset Management here for decades.  ‘Manage your assets or fail to manage your assets’.  Fans like you and I have sporting heroes, but Michael Nicholson’s job (as well as being a fan) is to manage our assets.  A reported fee of £10m for a player who turned 30 this month and had a significantly less effective 2024 than 2023 is Tier One asset management.

I only hope we do not backfill with one of Brendan’s agent pals’ players, or someone he watched a while back but is now out of favour in the English Championship.

Best of luck to Kyogo in France.  Despite his horrendous performance last night Jack Butland will be a happy man today.

  1. the long wait is over on

Agree that the game off tomorrow will help us on the field but the club will not want to cancel the game this late if they possibly can avoid it – too much loss of income / wastage I would have thought.

  2. Kyogo was struggling to learn the English language and now he’s got those French irregular verbs to master. Good luck young man. Merci beaucoup.

  3. Teary Mann, SCULLYBHOY, etc, yada, yada.

If your lost pals had listened to the brave posters that you smear as “Trolls” braves like, CANAMALAR, THE EXILED TIM, ERNIE LYNCH, KEVJUNGLE, and a good few others, then some of your lost pals might still be alive.

But instead they listened to krankie pet bhoys like AN TEARMANN, SCULLYBHOY, CLUNk the MOD bitch, WITZ, BOABY WiNKLE, far too many suckups that I’ve forgotten most of their names.

The “Trolls” don’t take the knee because the Establishment media demands it, but ‘good guys’ like Teary Mann and Scullyboy do. lol

Who says who is entitled to smear those who think differently?

Don’t bother replying coz your just a pair of woke, grassing, boring, snitching, touting, suckers who give me the boak.

  4. CELTIC40ME @ 3:28 PM,

    – “Brendan now has the chance to bring in his own man.”

By this I mean his own sort of player. Not a player he has identified himself.

Brendan spoke in todays presser about that, he said that if the Kyogo goes the Club would be looking to replace him.

The know the characteristics they are looking for – something it seems that they have some strikers in mind.

My understanding is Brendan won’t listen to people who know little about football about changing his system.

So he might not listen to you on recruitment!?

Maybe when Idah’s fee went over the Ross Stewart 9.3 mn baseline we should have seriously though about the fee…

    Hail Hail

Four legs good, two legs bad stuff produced by, and for the consumption of, morons.

  7. Personally I hate games being called off but this weekend I would make an exception.

We can then get plenty of recovery into the players and focus on Wednesday.

  8. The returnof weeron on

It might not be a bad thing if tomorrow’s game gets called off.

    The squad are exhausted.

In fact, I am exhausted. I don’t recall us ever having so many games crammed into this time of the year.

  9. Kayogo has been great for us but he wants to leave so no point forcing his stay. I don’t think it’s beyond the realms of possibility we sign a forward that will offer similar level of goals, but he has a lot of other qualities that will be hard to replace. Thanks for everything wee man.

We have negotiated a deal to get jota back. He is still only 25 years old. Jota will be an excellent addition to our team, able to unlock low blocks and take us up the park with pace and skill. Better still he has scope to further develop. Also adds more depth to the wide areas which imo is much needed.

KT at 27 year old is a player we would not get near if not for his support of our club. If we can get him signed up we need to jump at the chance.

Seems all of a sudden some folk are worried about the change in transfer strategy, I for one welcome it because I reckon it’s overstated. We have not stopped signing young players we have simply increased the age range and that started when Ange was here.

He showed that, sure we can make big profits on young players once developed (one in every 6 or so) but that we could also make decent profit on players over 27 year old + I.e., GG, JJ, starfelt, iwara and now KAYOGO etc. Balancing the need to develop and sell players with the need to preform right now.

Ps jasper was in rodger’s contact list and that did not turn out to bad.

That game tomorrow should be off. Debris all over the place, trains cancelled till noon apparently, more importantly damage to the stadium. To be clarified tomorrow morning!

Doubt if I’ll be there anyway, 20 foot fence down all over the garden. May have saved my greenhouse, find out tomorrow if its in the garden or North Berwick 🙄

Definitely an odd way to speak about our manager who has brought more success and higher professional standards than arguably any manager in our clubs history.

    ——————-

    Indeed 👍

  16. Kyogo has been a great servant to our club and deserves recognition and sincere gratitude.

This season he hasn’t been as good and considering his age, it’s good business. But only if we replace him with a competent striker.

When our defence is pressed and midfield man marked, all 3 forwards lack the ability and physicality to hold the ball up and bring others into play. We have also spurned far too many chances. The 2 wingers have been dynamite but we lack a powerhouse striker.

It will be interesting therefore to see who comes in to replace Kyogo. If we can add a top class striker the team goes up another level. It’s a shame to see him go but also an opportunity to develop and improve.

Maybe teams are”Not finding out how to play us”.Maybe we are a bit knackered putting massive effort, into going,13 points clear, winning the League Cup,and playing 7 games in the CL,and qualifying. All before the end of January.

    Just a thought.

  26. is it possible to find out the dates/weekend of the last games in the spfl this season or do we have to wait till the post split fixtures are published?

  27. Up like a bird on

So, we loaned out a couple of top players for a fee of £50m,{ KT, Jota.} For a couple of years to gain experience of playing and training under pressure and now they’re back.

Sounds like good asset management to me.

Welcome home Bhoys. In Brendan we trust.

We’re in the process of building a right good team here.

To have a John Mcginn or a Mc Tominey in our team.
