This impact Kyogo made on Celtic is difficult to overestimate. He cost three times more than any of our other recent players from Japan and established his credentials a week after touching down in Scotland. In August 2021, Celtic were trophyless and at their lowest point this century.
Kyogo was the spark that ignited the club. His perpetual motion, enthusiasm, selflessness and his goals, mostly his goals, gave us cause to hope for the future. He also gave us 8 out of 10 trophies contested during his time in Glasgow.
His first virtuoso performance delivered a hattrick against Dundee. We thought we were onto something special, but dare not dream of the levels he delivered. Kyogo enjoys a big game and took special delight in scoring against Newco. Including an incredible seven goals in 2023. He terrorised them at Celtic Park, Hampden and Ibrox.
With him on the field, you could be playing badly, but knew something special could happen at any moment. His hattrick of disallowed goals against Young Boys on Wednesday apparently bookends his time as an active Celtic icon. His inactive icon status will last decades, though.
Without doubt, he is the best since Henrik Larsson – the only appropriate reference point. We waited 20 years between the departure of Kenny Dalglish and Larsson’s arrival. The 17 years between Henrik and Kyogo were filled with some great Celtic strikers, but none possessed the sheer magic of Kyogo.
It wasn’t just his play. The man picked up litter, comforted injured opponents and wherever he went, made Scotland a better place. I cannot see someone throw litter away without contrasting them to our hero. He was an example of how to work hard and live your life. And there was that smile.
I have been preaching Asset Management here for decades. ‘Manage your assets or fail to manage your assets’. Fans like you and I have sporting heroes, but Michael Nicholson’s job (as well as being a fan) is to manage our assets. A reported fee of £10m for a player who turned 30 this month and had a significantly less effective 2024 than 2023 is Tier One asset management.
I only hope we do not backfill with one of Brendan’s agent pals’ players, or someone he watched a while back but is now out of favour in the English Championship.
Best of luck to Kyogo in France. Despite his horrendous performance last night Jack Butland will be a happy man today.

Absolutely agree with that post.

Things I never knew. Many thanks to FF for enlightening me.
” The fekin BBC Scotland news tonight.Could not wait to report about the trouble last night.”
” The problem is,Pacific Quay,is infested with Tims”
2 thirds of dargavel is without power.
all those footballers having to sit in their cars, the chippy and carry out shops are stowed though, and in a typical scene for down there , there is a jogger out on the cycle path, feckin nuts.

In a week where we are all happy about our progress to the next level even the sale of Kyogo couldn’t dampen spirits. The return of Jota will be appreciated with KT…
Dermot & Ross have aligned with Nicholson & McKay with the manager fully in the loop. The first step of the dance has been taken with others to follow….
The question has to be asked why P67 is so bent out of shape about the Manager that even in a tribute to Kyogo he ruins it with his most bitter personal attack to date. I suspect he doesn’t mind Celtic drawing / losing games so he has an opportunity to have a go at the manager.
Rodgers is only here because of Dermot and we are very lucky to have him. He is humbler and more determined second time round. He has also learned how to play the game much better this time and this has slowly played out over the last 12 months and the next 6 months should see the clean up complete.
Dortmumd away showed me how much Celtic meant to the Desmonds , I was impressed.
I suspect someone will be looking for a new hobby or maybe a different team to support next season.
If decision for the game is in the morning, it’s possible got a chance, maybe advised Dundee to travel tonight, if it’s off,we will cover the costs
Tom English. Total irrelevance

I f this is Paul`s ` most bitter attack` :
“I only hope we do not backfill with one of Brendan’s agent pals’ players, or someone he watched a while back but is now out of favour in the English Championship.”
then Paul`s previous `attacks` must have been hard to discern.

Do you know what damage has ocurred at Celtic Park ?
Lucky Cody
Paul’s interest is in the sustainable long term success of Celtic on and off the park. The site was founded after the fiasco toward the end of the MON era. It was founded after rangers had succumbed to the twin egos of Wee Dick and David Murray. Their legacy played out until 2012 and destroyed that club. I get that many supporters don’t care much beyond trophies this season and short term glory. That has never been Paul’s thing. Gen dom has always been the motto. Irrespective of who was chairman or CEO or manager. Unlike some who are obsessed with individuals.

Maybe you could count the trophies won in the past 20 years and see the financial positon and reflect.
Not many anywhere in the world run as well as this now. It’s what allows our current manager the platform to work from. A platform which, unlike the one Ange inherited, included a treble winning team with a clear and defined playing style. A platform with a significant financial strength to leverage.
Good evening all from Heraghtys. Mobbed.
Think I’m the oldest duffer in here. 🙄
Summer 2021 – Ange’s first season:
Brought in 4 players aged 26 in Giakoumakis, Juranovic, Kyogo and Starfelt for a combined £17m or so. Sold all of them for a combined £28m roughly. Starfelt we sold for the same as we bought and made a profit on the others. Supplemented those 4 with some experience in Hart, and younger “project” players in Abada, MOR, CCV, Scales and Jota. Hatate, Ideguchi and Maeda also joined at 24/25 y.o. Jota, Abada, Ideguchi, MOR all left for around £60m. CCV, Scales, Hatate and Maeda continue to form key parts of our squad.
Summer 2023 – The Lawell model.
£20m blown on 9 project players aged 23 or under and very much in the “project” category. Only Bernardo and Yang remain anywhere near the squad, with Lagerbielke, Holm, Tillio and Kwon sent out on loan, Iwata sold on, and Palma and Nawrocki likely to be sold if we can offload.
Summer 2024 – Brendan back in charge:
Experience in key areas brought in in the shape of Kasper and Trusty. Idah, Sinisalo, and Engels brought in as players to develop. McCowan a decent “home grown” squad player. On course for at least a double and 3 wins and 3 draws in 7 CL games to get through the group stages for the first time in over a decade.
It’s almost like a good manager bringing in first team ready players (with a mixed profile in experience terms) and buying into the need to sell at the right time can operate a more effective player trading strategy than the Lawells (buying almost exclusively young and cheap) can…who’d have thunk it!
BRRB,
It’s quite a wee while since I was in Heraghty’s on a Friday night. Hope you feel right at home.

“Maybe you could count the trophies won in the past 20 years and see the financial positon and reflect”
beancounter self-promotion
nothing to do with anyone else at the club ?

I hope now everyone has accepted that Kyogo has left because he has wanted to leave for some time.
The fact that we have been able to secure the return of Jota virtually cost free on the back of it is good business and good for the team. Postponing till the summer would probably have killed the deal- the French club need him now.
Celtic and Rennes have managed to offload a player who didn’t want to be with them and replace them with a quality addition that does – quid pro quo!
Looks like the KT deal will be done, so perhaps the Bernabei and (if he goes)Palma money can fund a replacement striker, whether that be a permanent, or, temporary fix.
Like some others I believe a rest day tomorrow might not be a bad thing.
Sad about losing Kyogo, mais c’est la vie. HH

Your Jota picture made me chuckle.

I was having a pint before picking up our food from Kamwa. It’s far too busy for me and difficult to get a seat. Bah humbug. 😁
Are we saying Paul who’s blog it is ( who’s opinion I don’t agree with ) is not entitled to his opinion ? :)
If Brendan wants Jota back then im onboard.
But its a gamble. His career has been on a downward trajectory since he left us för a reported £25m less a 30% add on for Benfica.
He has had a very limited gametime.
However he is only 25 years old, who knows If we resurrect his form and career we may even get some more dosh in a few years.
One thing is for sure, Ellie Dixon will be a happy Lady.
HH.
BRRB,
Seats in Heraghty’s on a Friday night…..Nae chance.
Why do folk who only come on to attack Paul67 and CQN ? Why not find or start a blog reflecting your own views. Paul67 has been consistent in his views for all the years I have had the privilege on reading CQN. Many have left and started or contributed to other blogs. Good for them. You may not agree with Paul67’s leaders but, imo, there is no need to attack him personally.
I only come on to tell people what the temperature is in Kentucky and what day it is.
It’s Baltic and Friday evening,
I only come on to try and beat Aipple to the post.
He beat me again though.
That made me chuckle. Almost as much as wee EBT Arteta taking the huff on Sky Sports News.
Good lady is already sending me places to go in Glasgow that I haven’t heard of. Might seek advice on here about some of the restaurants she fancies.
My mum put a good washing out today. She picks it up in Irvine tomorrow.

I would never attack Paul and I am always interested in his take on all things Celtic.
What I would like to know in this time of great success why he doesn’t fancy the manager who is making it possible.
What it is that he knows and we are missing? Quite frankly I’m puzzled. Is it just a personal thing? HH
Surely a call could have been made on the game tomorrow, this evening ?
Very unfair on people travelling from Ireland and other long distances
Dearie me. You have to login to read back
hope the game is on today ,selfish i know, no real travel involved for myself
just love watching the Celtic especially on saturday @3pm
farewell and thanks Kyogo a pure joy to watch
all the best in France
thanks for the memoriescsc
kyogo wanted to go and he got his wish
Was good to have you whilst you were here
I wish you all the best
How many frogs will we have to kiss to find our new prince?
Hopefully as we knew he was going we have been doing work behind the scenes……
Although history does not bode well
Also be a good time to create a “short term” structural issue
fter tomoz we are not at home again till the 8th of feb
I would have the ground staff tearing it to pieces overnight
A weekend breather would allow us to go into the villa game rested more than we have since november
