FORMER Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi faces a summer of uncertainty as reports emerge that Rennes could AXE him from their first-team squad.
The one-time Hoops fans’ favourite is in soccer limbo following his £10million move to the French club in January.
Kyogo, who hit 85 goals in three and a half years at Parkhead following his £4.5million arrival from J-League outfit Vissel Kobe in late July 2021, has failed to claim a solitary strike for the Ligue 1 side who finished twelfth in the 18-team top flight.
THE LAST HURRAH…Kyogo Furuhashi holds aloft the Premier Sports League Cup after Celtic’s penalty-kick shoot-out triumph over Rangers in December – six weeks before his move to France.
The 30-year-old Japanese international signed a two-and-a-half year deal at Rennes, but made only six league appearances and was missing from matchday squads at the end of the season.
Boss Habib Beye, who replaced Jorge Sampaoli, the manager when Kyogo was signed, is poised to have crunch talks with the forward, according to local media outlet Ouest-France.
They report that the team chief is preparing to assemble a 25-man squad for the new season – and Kyogo is among the players who have been “warned” they will not be kept at the club.
There has been inevitable speculation that the popular marksman could make a quickfire return to Celtic, but Brendan Rodgers has given no indication the speedy attacker is in his thoughts.
However, Premier League side Bournemouth are monitoring the situation and could throw Kyogo a lifeline.
