KYOGO FURUHASHI has joined English second-tier side Birmingham City after his nightmare six-month stay in France.
The former Celtic fans’ favourite joined Rennes in a £10million move at the turn of the year, but, after scoring 85 goals for the Hoops in three and a half years, didn’t claim a solitary strike for the Ligue 1 outfit.
Brendan Rodgers’ former assistant Chris Davies, now manager of the Blues, has rescued Kyogo, 30, with a three-year deal in a cut-price transfer, reported to be around £5million, according to a report in BBC Sport.
THE LAST HURRAH…Kyogo Furuhashi celebrates his 85th – and final – goal for Celtic after netting his second in the 4-1 win over Ross County in Dingwall on January 11.
The Midlands gaffer, who also signed Japanese midfielder Tomoki Iwata last summer, guided the team to promotion last season as League One champions.
Kyogo won four Premiership titles, three League Cups and two Scottish Cups at Parkhead after being signed by Ange Postecoglou in a £4.6million move from J-League club Vissel Kobe in late July 2021.
The pacy hitman made an instant impression on the Celtic supporters with a hat-trick in his first appearance at Parkhead in a 6-0 romp against Dundee a fortnight after his arrival.
