The script was written for Jota to come off the bench on his return after 18 months and score in a Celtic win. His last kick of the ball for Celtic before departing was to put us 3-1 ahead of Inverness Caley Thistle in the Scottish Cup Final.
Adam Idah seems to have flicked a switch, returning to form from last term, while Daizen Maeda sparkled throughout, including when he played through the middle.
None of that moves the dial, however. If Celtic do not sign a striker today they are undeniably taking a risk with the second half of the season. There remains a Kyogo shaped hole in the squad. Over to you, Brendan, Michael.

Jota on the wing!
Someone jets in, some on a failed project exit, something slams shut, somebody no happy.
Monday.
Hello
Anyone at Ross Hall?
Anyone chat to Owen Coyle’s Granny?
Where is Catman when you need him?
It’s just another transfer deadline day.
Re; Angels getting pushed over on top of the ball and grabbing it for the foul. That was the only time I’ve seen the player getting punished for hand ball !
I don’t know why, maybe the colour of the jersey has something to do with it?
Morning Aipple, Canada proposing to cut power to the US during Superbowl. Hope we’re still pals.😂

Quite a few questions could be asked about the refereeing and VAR yesterday .
Recruitment is never easy. You can have the best system in the world and still get beat seven Blooming nil by a recently promoted team…..

Yes it is not easy. Our player trading has made us a fair few pounds whilst others have floundered in the recent past. Brighton have got a fair bit more right there than wrong also. Hence the profit they have made in going from the clutches of non league at the old Goldstone Ground back when I last saw them to 10th in the EPL with a value to match.

“If Celtic do not sign a striker today they are undeniably taking a risk with the second half of the season.”
The team have a good lead and have goals coming from all over and our current 2nd choice striker looked pretty good playing with a lesser class of player around him in the Conference League – a level above or at least comparable to a lot of SPFL sides.
I’m keen to see a LB (happy with GT/other + KT), CF and a CDM but all could wait until summer if it means getting better options as could an additional winger or CB. Better to get them in now to bed in ahead of CL qualifiers but “undeniably taking a risk” seems a stretch, though if our preferred options for any position were available in the summer but not now loans for any of the above might be a good option but we have fewer games and squad options that can cover multiple positions so I’m not stressing tonight whilst still hoping to see some white smoke / get some confirmation via Donegal Danny’s granny.
Rennes drew 0-0 and Kyogo was subbed on 66 minutes
We’ll see
Daniel Kelly has more SPL game time than Championship game time

I really hope you are correct.
We are obv short in cover at LB and up front. As a minimum.
We are going into a vital 6 month period.
Last 16 in CL maybe a big stretch but we have to aim for it. A few co efficient points would really help of value though as we look forward to Augusts CL qualifiers. Being seeded at play off is a huge bonus. We are on the cusp right now. A point or two might make a big difference.
We also have an incredible 6th treble in 9 years to aim for. Surely worth resourcing for.

Rennes snatched a 1-0 win in the last minute.
Glendaly,
I think dubious is the word , (and not grease ).
Bsr,
I think Rennes won 1 nil!
Oops thanks guys
Back on the subject of Engels and Trusty , there is definitely a player in Engels but I really don’t think Trusty quite has it a t this level, hope I’m wrong

Which level?
SPFL (worrying esp given the price paid!) or CL (understandable).

It’s a unique window, with record finances.
I think we’ll announce Kieran Tierney but it’s maybe wishful thinking. There will be names floating about, I hope we’ll get a striker over the line by tonight though we’ve never signed a talisman in January.
Daniel Kelly has zero game time in the Championship with Millwall.

This new crop of referees coming through look to be just as bad (at least) as the established ones . The Well player’s tackle on Ralston was dangerous but not worthy of even a yellow card . That sort of challenge you could easily see being upgraded to a red by VAR but by not booking the player that possibility was ruled out . The new crop are obviously being made in Dallas’ image and likeness .
Apologies for double posting
Aff Oot as someone once said CSC
There’s no excuses for not getting a striker in, we were told Kyogo informed the club months ago that he wanted to leave
bournesouprecipe
We’ve re-signed two talismans (talismen?) this January so you never know .
Nonsense Paul.10 goals !!!!.We all loved Kyoto, but this season he was anything but irreplaceable.Idah ha scored more,as has Khun and Maeda. The wee man was reported missing in quite a few games. This ” We must sign a striker” mantra,is fraught with danger. We may jump in and sign one, another,Swiss disaster, just to keep the Bling Brigade happy.Where does he play?.Idah will not be a happy guy,to finally get his chance, take it,then have it snatched away.Maeda, looks much better in the middle, than the wing.Jamesy coming back, will be great back up for the wInger’s.
On a final note, how can any of us expect youngsters to hang around when any glimmer of a chance at first team,is snuffed out by the transfer market.Lennon Miller,a loan LB until summer, would make this a fantastic window.
Maybe it’s just me,if Idah is walking about in a huff,as we are looking at bringing in another striker, he can GTF,can’t even smile when he scores or the team scores
Bada,
As I said, where’s he going to play.?Do you honestly think when Jota is fit,he and Kuhn won’t be the wingers?.Ida and Maeda the strikers .A striker that will sit on the bench ?.

“The Well player’s tackle on Ralston was dangerous but not worthy of even a yellow card.”
Shocking decision that one, imo.
“That sort of challenge you could easily see being upgraded to a red by VAR but by not booking the player that possibility was ruled out.”
Not sure on a red myself but I think that VAR can review any challenge if the VAR operator considers it a potential red card offense – regardless of if the ref has deemed it a foul or not, or issued a yellow card or not.
I think VAR will only intervene if the ref’s description of what he saw or his explanation of why he decided on the action (or lack of) that he did is at odds with the reality of what the camera shows or the rule book.
Idah can GTF because he does not smile !!!!!!!!!.
Sign Krusty The Clown.
What’s the division of responsibility for transfers now? I thought Brendan was in charge?
Nice problem to have ? Who to leave out ? With a three man forward line of Kuhn, Idah, Maeda & Jota who sits on the bench when they’re all fit.
For backup, we have Forrest, Yang, Kenny & Dan Cummings giving 8 possibilities for the 3 positions. That seems to me to be a touch stronger than before !
Have no fear. Doctor Football/Football Doctor be writing prescriptions to cure all these striker and left back ailments.
Teuchter ár lá re: Superbowl
Would love to see it happen.
Mark Carney next PM you think? Sharp brain that man.
Kyogo with 7 touches in 66 minutes on Sunday. Haaland with 9 touches in 90 minutes.

It is rare, I agree , but if memory serves ( and you may have to brace yourself here) the exact same award was given against Barry Ferguson ( yes , you are reading that correctly) in the game against us at Ibrox where Roy Keane took BF to school.
QuadBhoy on 3rd February 2025 12:58 pm
Thanks for that , I wasn’t sure on the rules for VAR intervention . I have seen similar fouls given straight reds or upgraded to reds by VAR
Can JOTA and/or other possible NEW Signings ( Today) play in the next Champions League game against Bayern ?
HH.
As long as they’re not cup tied
