Ladbrokes SPFL-PR warning media to stop title stripping talk

1623

I’m told by a broadcast journalist friend that Jim Traynor, of PR company Level5, started Newco Rangers broadcast media conference yesterday with a warning to journalists that discussion about title stripping was off limits.

The law was that if manager Mark Warburton was asked about the proposed sanction for Oldco Rangers financial doping the conference would be stopped.

Say what you like about journalists, but they regard being told what to ask, or not to ask, as a line in the sand issue. Traynor, a journalist for decades, should have known better than to make such a rookie mistake.

He was told that attempts to subvert discussion about Oldco being stripped of titles is not something that would be accommodated. By the broadcast media, anyway.

Warburton was subsequently asked about title stripping and although he was happy to answer, I’m told, this angered the would-be news-denier, whereupon he “lost his temper”.

Post-conference there was a bit of chat about how they would be able to appropriately report on less-partisan issues, like the Level5 PR-controlled Ladbrokes SPFL, although there was a consensus that “He’ll fall out with everyone soon enough. He always does”.

  1. A few getting upset because others are talking about the Huns getting titles stripped away rom them, they would rather rip into Celtic, than rip into the cheating Hun b….. Funny that eh?

    Lurking Huns SMSM GIRFUYs

  2. So there were 108 recipients of EBT’s and how many were declared publicly?

Would an FOI for all beneficiaries to be identified be accommodated ?

Who would you make the FOI to, HMRC or the court of session ?

  3. Well! There’s just no pleasing you is there, lol, can’t win for losing.

Biggest disappointment for me is that because the other result went in our ‘favour’ we still think we are in with a chance. I know I will have hope when the next game comes round but if I’m honest we should expect to be beaten again. True to form we will likely win against Ajax and then fail dramatically to a late winner in the final game. Thereby living the nightmare all over. – See more at: http://www.celticquicknews.co.uk/ladbrokes-spfl-pr-warning-media-to-stop-title-stripping-talk/#sthash.fZiswE7g.dpuf

The First Tier Tax Tribunal decided that the names should be redacted in their published judgment so I doubt any official source would now confirm them.

I’d would however still like to know why the Tribunal was allowed to sit in private.

It says a lot about the SMSM that they didn’t challenge that decision at the time.

  5. Did not read anything from on here today,as I knew wha it would be like.A new blog, but again I see some desperate to keep up the “Ronnie out”diatribe.Yes beaten last night, but once again, our weakest part of the team, was once again ravaged.A deliberate lunge on Joze,on his injured ankle, left us once again, struggling.People ,some supposed experts saying,we employed the wrong tactics ????????.What,Celtic at Celtic Park should sit back and hit other teams on the break?.We dont have the players for that.We never play that way in all of our domestic games. Why would we suddenly be good at it?.We had to win last night. We did not.Bad luck, and some bad performances helped, but everyone on here would have fielded the same team, considering our injury problems.

Ronnie must now be ruthless.Blackett has to be sent back to Man U.Johansen dropped,Commons dropped,Cole played up front with LG.Allan given the playmaker role.Janko given a run in the team.If we want to play with the full backs pushing on,they must have pace to get back.Tierney seems able for this.

Molde, are nobodies mugs.At home not fantastic, but they have a game for Europe that works there.Very quick on the break.Like us,probably dont get to play that style at home.

Ronnies record over the first 24 games is better than WGS,and Lenny, not a million miles from MON,and when you consider the players MON had at his disposal, its no surprise .

    Time required.

  6. Honestly believe the reason we looked second best was that they were a better coached team

I have to admit, I am starting to have doubts about Ronny but I won’t protest if the board gives him time.

He needs a settled 4 who play every week and build an understanding. Mulgrew should start when fit, in the short term.

  7. Traynor & his like will do anything to protect their lovechild from the inevitable.

Surely even the corrupt SFA can’t sweep what’s coming under the carpet.

Title stripping of Old Club & confirmation of New Club (if they survive) is the only way our game can remain credible. Ladbrokes may sponsor the league league just now but who would touch a sport that has zero integrity left & where cheating can go unpunished?

  8. EL,

The FTT ruling was overturned and the EBT is now deemed illegal, I can’t see how that ruling can stand, especially when the court of session shat on the FTT.

Are court of session transcripts available for public viewing ?

  9. TSMSM today having a ball with the anti Celtic stories, and so many going along with it.They must just love the Celtic blogs after a defeat.Especially when their idols are feked.

  10. going nowhere under this magement team, the finger is pointed at Peter Lawwell for appointing him,we used to chap on the door of the CL,we are not even a Europa League team.

David Murray will get an increasing amount of flak to distract attention away from what’s happening in the here and now.

The club was sunk by Murray’s hubris, that’s true, but it was Johnstone, Paul Murray and King who decided not to address the issue in 2010 when they had that chance to. Indeed, they had decided 2 years previously – despite the Tax Assessmentsd arriving in Feb/March 2008, to INCREASE the use of EBTs to fund the playing squad.

Had they made provision for a Tax Case loss, the club would not have died.

    They decided not to.

Two of those three are running a new club in the same way as the old one.

Lessons of history and all that.

    ###

That’s not how it works. The CoS decided that the FTT was wrong in the way it interpreted and applied the law, not in the way it heard the evidence.

‘The composition that became famous as “The Third Man Theme” had long been in Karas’s repertoire, but he had not played it in 15 years. “When you play in a café, nobody stops to listen,” Karas said. “This tune takes a lot out of your fingers. I prefer playing ‘Wien, Wien’, the sort of thing one can play all night while eating sausages at the same time.”

  16. EL,

The big difference now is that the recipients are now considered criminals, can’t think of any other rules that protect criminals identity, which is the big difference, no ?

As Ernie said you can appeal only on a point of law

the initial judge failed to apply the law correctly

  18. BT,

Tax payers money has been stolen surely the tax payer has the right to know who the criminals are ?

  19. So it turns out there’s 56 days from the date of the announcement to lodge and appeal. Plenty of time to get title stripping arguments prepared.

Can’t take it forward in a meaningful way until the confirmation of the appeal is stated one way or another.

  20. The only issue LNS had to seriously determine was whether any sporting advantage accrued to Rangers by their cheating.

The fact that the decision is that the tax scheme was NOT lawful is an irrelevance to the LNS decisions, no matter what he says in his ramble at the end.

The matters before him was their failure to disclose and sporting advantage nor not.

In reality, it was only the latter. Rangers actually admitted cheating the SFA and SPL, but not HMRC.

All LNS had to determine therefore was the sporting advantage issue and he displayed an absence of self evident common sense in his finding.

At best (if he wanted to find none) all he could have been able to say was that it was impossible to be certain whether any sporting advantage was gained – but he should then have ruled that on the balance of probabilities it was gained.

Bryson’s eligibility words were the red herring and were only there to provide LNS with some straw to which he could attach his pre-ordained decision, courtesy of the Five Way Agreement

Simply, if that club had not offered those EBT players the more attractive remuneration package at the signing talks initially – they just wouldn’t have signed for them at all. If they were only at the club because of the contract promising those unlawful payments, then an advantage was gained over all other clubs in the SPL.

So if an advantage was the desired outcome – yes: and then an advantage was achieved – yes:

What kind of advantage was it?

Since Rangers were in the business of sporting endeavour and these EBTers were 90% players in their sport it is self evidently common sense that the advantage they secured was fundamentally a sporting one.

No other club was able to compete for the services of these players because Rangers used unlawful means to recruit them.

The simple fact that they were on the payroll at this club is evidence of a sporting advantage obtained by these unlawful payments.

When Celtic realised EBTs were dodgy and settled the Juninho one, they were well aware they were being used at Ibrox and didn’t a director tell this to the Ibrox board? This makes me think it will continue with people like youself to raise the issue of the blatent cheating as I get the feeling the Celtic Board would rather this would just go away.

When I’m posting don’t forget LNS was deprived of significant documents and if you read the John James blog he is saying Ogilvie is responsible for that.

There is a story about heads on a plate that I can tell at a future date that Paul may recall the day that LNS made the decision.

Why it was flawed by Ogilvie or whoever kept stum is set out at this blog originally posted on SFM.

Paul67 – acting like MSM by giving the post mortem of last nights abject failure a very limited window for discussion – and quickly diverting article.attention to lets laugh at SEVCO..

    Really disappointing Paul67..and somewhat transparent.

Anyhow – I don’t feel to comfortable laughing at any other team club right now on the bais of glass houses and stones…

The post mertem results are in and the cause of of our deathly performances are well documented…

How do we go forward – ?

Who should be held to account?

These are the issues that should form the leading articles today, surely?

Otherwise CQN becomes a Celtic PLC PR machine…wait a minute….!

  26. Where do we go from here?

How much bonus will PL get foe season 2015/16?

Will R: make it the end of the month?

Now that the dust has settled it was the second half performance that did it for me.

The first half had been poor, probably more a poor game than a terrible performance.

We made mistakes and they cost us dear but we stilled controlled the ball and looked dangerous but very wasteful.

The basic failures were on show — no leadership, direction or confidence.

Now becoming the Euro norm — flat track SPL bullies with no heart to fight the unknown or the exotic. Mode hadn’t read the script or listened to the hype.

They were playing the players they found on the park and not their CV’s or wage packets.

However we matched and probably bettered their endeavours and were unlucky to go in behind.

However it was the second half that has taken this performance and this results to new and almost uncharted lows. It was painful to watch and that is not something I have ever been able to say of another CFC performance.

BTM’s final game is the only one that comes close.

That was not a performance based on talent or ability it was a performance based on a lack of heart and a lack of respect for the club, the manager and the support.

I just cannot believe we could play that badly.

Either the team had a collective nervous breakdown or they were trying to get RD the sack.

    KC goes of at HT.

JF comes on and does nothing substantial for 35 minutes.

That state of affairs is just not natural so why was he so ineffectual?

It just doesn’t make sense, and if doesn’t make sense then you have to ask why.

The Irish Raj has set up the club to suit himself.

PL has worked the club and worked it well to suit himself.

RD has been given been given a training top to fill.

We are very agent friendly when it comes to buying players.

Last night started 6 or 7 years ago.

We are being taken for mugs.

If somebody started Glasgow Emeralds (or the like) I reckon they could attract many Celtic fans seeking an authentic football experience that they can relate to. We will all die Celtic fans and I’m sure when Lawwell and co are away the bond between club and fans will grow again. Right now the link between supporters fans and the club is eroding at an alarming rate. How many seats will be filled after Christmas?
