Languishing in Paris

710

When watching Real Mardrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich it is easy to be discouraged at the gap between where we are and the quarter finals of the Champions League, but despite the many hundreds of millions spent on both Paris St Germain and Chelsea, the standard of passing and decision making throughout their game last night was abysmal.   Despite their win, PSG were the worst offenders last night, even the Great One was poor.

There is now a real prospect that no English side will make it to the semi-final stage of either European tournament for the first time since 2003, when Liverpool were last to drop out, at the quarter finals stage of the Uefa Cup……..  You’re welcome.

What struck me most watching last night’s game was Sky TV’s Gary Neville pondering how long PSG’s star players would languish in such a poor league.  This is the French league we’re talking about here, not the Scottish Premiership, it’s Paris, not the ‘New East End’!

It’s easy to mock Neville but he asks an interesting question, will players always migrate to a higher-profile league?  If so, there are more clubs than just Celtic in need of structural change.

Sadly we all know the media is needed from time to time but i really believe that our media do us more damage than good.

With all the talk about celtic starting a phone in show i hope its one less thing we need the general media for.

    Ourselves alone ? Maybe someday

I just don’t get the sense in it at all. I know what Neganon is saying about it being a metaphor for regeneration but I prefer the more simple examples like…it’s raining cats and dugs :-)

I do not like to highjack the blog or ask for anything, but I know how well people on here have aided others in the past and I would be grateful for just a minute of your time:

Earlier this year my dad was admitted to hospital after suffering from stomach pains and cramps from New Years Day. His symptoms worsened over a number of weeks until a GP finally checked him in to Wishaw General for some tests.

Going by the symptoms the doctors initially thought he had gall-stones, then when that was ruled out they checked for ulcers. Cultures and blood tests both showed that there was ‘nothing sinister’ but one of the doctors knew there wasn’t something right and pushed for a keyhole procedure to examine the area. It wasn’t until then that they discovered cancer in the pancreas.

For those that don’t know, and it will be many, Pancreatic Cancer is the 5th biggest killer in terms of cancers in the UK. 5 year survival rates are under 3% and most people diagnosed only get 3-12 months. The signs do not normally show until the cancer has spread and by then it is too late to operate. Chemotherapy and all other known traditional treatments do not work.

Although such a big killer, and one with no screening method or effective treatment plan, funding for treatment and research in the UK is under 0.9% (compared to other types of cancer) and decreasing. This is a fraction of other types of cancers which receive more media attention.

We are all obviously devastated but trying to remain positive and pursue any treatment option out there that the NHS will not offer.

But this is bigger than my family, this is a seriously underfunded and under-researched disease in an age where developments happen every day in other types of cancers.

There is a petition which I would be grateful if people would sign, to encourage the government to at least discuss improving funding and knowledge of this horrible condition.

Please sign it if you have the time: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/48389

This from Staff writer at The Herald: “Extra support for cup referees

Last year’s Scottish Cup Final – won 3-0 by Celtic over Hibernian – featured officials behind each goal for the first time and now the SFA have expanded this format to include this year’s semi-finals.

Referee Bobby Madden will take charge of the Rangers v Dundee United tie at Ibrox on Saturday, April 12, when he will be assisted by Graham Chambers and Alastair Mather, fourth official Calum Murray and additional assistant referees John Beaton and Alan Muir.”

Why don’t they just get the whole lodge signed up for the £1,000 a go gig?

  18. Marrakesh Express on

Its obvious that Man Utd have the biggest support in England but a few other clubs are beginning to realise their potential by maximising their fanbase. I see Spurs have 50000 on the waiting list and have plans for a 75000 seater by 2017. Arsenal have 60k and Liverpool also trying to get planning for a 60-65k. I read somewhere that Liverpool were down up to £1 million compared to Man U for every home game, due to capacity restrictions and subsequent revenues lost.

With more TV billions being poured in soon, the elite of England will be out of sight for every other club outwith the usual European suspects.

And to think one club from a wee country next door, with a huge fanbase and worldwide reputation to match, could compete with them all, given the chance.

A guy goes into a bar and is amazed to see a robot serving behind the bar. When he orders his drink he is even more amazed when the robot asks him for his I.Q. score. Being a modest sort of bloke he replies

“Actually I’m a nuclear physicist so I’m pretty smart. My I.Q. is 170.”

The robot then proceeds to chat to him for over an hour about science , literature, philosophy and other such erudite subjects.

When the guy leaves the bar he starts to get curious so he returns a week later. This time when the robot asks for his I.Q. he says that it is 100. The robot then chats to him about football, soap operas, celebrity gossip etc.

He is even more amazed and curious so he comes back a week later and tells the robot that he isn’t very clever and that his I.Q. score is only 50.

    The robot says

“So have you bought your Rankers season ticket yet? After all it’s still the same Club.”
