Languishing in Paris

710

When watching Real Mardrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich it is easy to be discouraged at the gap between where we are and the quarter finals of the Champions League, but despite the many hundreds of millions spent on both Paris St Germain and Chelsea, the standard of passing and decision making throughout their game last night was abysmal.   Despite their win, PSG were the worst offenders last night, even the Great One was poor.

There is now a real prospect that no English side will make it to the semi-final stage of either European tournament for the first time since 2003, when Liverpool were last to drop out, at the quarter finals stage of the Uefa Cup……..  You’re welcome.

What struck me most watching last night’s game was Sky TV’s Gary Neville pondering how long PSG’s star players would languish in such a poor league.  This is the French league we’re talking about here, not the Scottish Premiership, it’s Paris, not the ‘New East End’!

It’s easy to mock Neville but he asks an interesting question, will players always migrate to a higher-profile league?  If so, there are more clubs than just Celtic in need of structural change.

By the way, I hold you responsible for me saying “ooh, I could crush a grape” a Lot to my innocent 13yo Son, he is probably jibber jabbering that stuff in St Andrews & St Brides High School, he says he isnae but he likely is. So if the phrase goes viral, I know the source. He is a quiet Bhoy so it may stay underground.

  3. I know Celtic will benefit handsomely with some refurbishment to the stadium, but I was always of the opinion that the Commonwealth Games was a mickey mouse sporting event, anyone agree?

We have always done well against French opposition but I would not agree with Gary Neville that it’s a weak league, are they not one of the usual suspects when it gets to the knockout stage of the Champions League ie England, Spain, Germany, Italy and the French.

  4. bhoys3 – love the post – what these people do is immense – I am ashamed of myself when I think of what their day consists of. care care care is all they do day in day out. couldn’t believe it when the ‘government’ (not voted for) said trainees had to spend an extra year as an assistant

4 ties that suggest all will be under 2.5 goals, the bookies certainly put it that way.
