Larsson, Lennon and Brown

Friday is the 8th annual Celtic Quick News Open.  The event, in which our guest speaker will be Livingston FC Manager and former Celt John Hughes, is completely booked up with a record 54 golfers. In addition to playing golf and having fun the CQN Open raises funds for good causes

Our good causes this year are The Haven Centre in Blantyre, Oscar Knox Neuroblastoma Appeal, Martin Chambers Ecuador Trust and Aberdour Primary School Parents’ Association.

We have already distributed over £2000 thanks to the sale of a Joseph Gormley painting back in April. We have two further fantastic paintings by Joseph; one of Scott Brown and one of Henrik Larsson. We also have a wonderful signed Neil Lennon print by the artist Gary Brandham.

The items are being raffled on ebay right now for the price of a £1 ticket. Winners will be drawn at the CQN Open on Friday night. There will be further raffles and auctions on Friday night with some excellent golfing and other sporting activities been donated by the Celtic family. Perhaps the pick is a limited edition canvas print of John Thomson, donated by the John Thomson Memorial Committee. There are only 22 of these in the entire world, representing the 22 years of John’s life.

This is a unique opportunity to win three great pieces of Celtic memorabilia, items which would normally be pushed out of the reach of most people at auction. Tickets cost £1, buy as many as you like, but participate. This is what your club is all about!

Many congratulations to Sean Fallon on his 90th birthday. I am delighted his autobiography is currently being written. Sean is our last remaining link to huge parts of our history. He was there, participating in the decision process, on so many of the things we now take for granted. The research, preparation and publicity surrounding his autobiography will be an opportunity to make sure younger generations get to appreciate the great resource he is. Let’s hope we get a CQN interview one day.

Sighs of relief will be heard around many dens of iniquity as Rangerstaxcase sails into the sunset; well done on excellent work. RTC’s “99% crap” has teased, entertained and informed for over a year. History is already being rewritten, but the inescapable fact is that Rangers diaspora were far better served by RTC than by the army of cheerleaders Sir David Murray or Craig Whyte depended upon to make their work possible.

The ‘buy lots of raffle tickets’ message if for you, b.t.w. so what are you waiting on, they are only £1 each!!!

So it would be your opinion that ole James Vaughan may be unable to attain the giddy heights of being considered world class :-)

Sevco have signed Dean shiels, he said:

“I’m from a Rangers community in Northern Ireland. I have a lot of friends who are season ticket holders who come over on the boat every week and I have great affection for the club.

Hes from a rangers community in n.ireland?? what the feck does that mean? Think hes prob trying to say that he knows a few ppl who supported rangers (now support sevco). But dont give me that tripe “a rangers community”

  7. Don’t know much about Vaughan and not overly excited if it is true.

But do you know what, let’s give the guy a chance before prophesising his failure.

Teuchter ar la- I live in hope, after all James Vaughan may have been in the hands of world class orthopaedic surgeons.

Several reports this morning suggest Celtic are very interested in talking City striker james vaughan on season long loan with a view to a permanent deal , Celtic boss, Neil Lennon has previously tried to capture Vaughton when the player was with Everton.

I sincerely hope that this goes no further, Vaughan has had terrible luck with injuries since Lambert signed him, he has come back so far this season looking sharper than ever. I believe the player has a lot to prove to himself, management and supporters that he can do a job for City. I would like him to have that chance and I am sure Chris Hughton will also share that view.

I have just bought me and my bhoy tickets for tonight’s Motherwell v Panathinikos, the ticket staff were very nice and helpful, told them we were Hoops season ticket holders, she said “fantastic”, he has a Greek top to wear and I have a Panathinikos top, let’s see how we get on.

Going tomorrow as well and then the CQN golf day, special driver and guest picking me up!

  11. I think the Vaughan story is a non-starter.

City boss Chris Hughton is far too long in the footballing tooth to ever take anything for granted.

But right now his first pre-season in charge of the Canaries is coming along quite nicely.

This weekend’s 2-0 away win at Peterborough made it two wins in two following last week’s 1-0 away win at Celtic Park and with both Steve Morison and James Vaughan (again) on the score-sheet, his principal strikers are already in the goals.

It was, after all, Grant Holt’s 89th minute strike that delivered the win in Glasgow last week.

More importantly, City have had just one pre-season ‘casualty’ – Steven Whittaker’s ankle injury on the Rangers defender’s return to neighbours Celtic being the one concern of note. He missed yesterday’s trip to London Road and the ankle knock will be assessed again over the next couple of days.

It would appear, however, that Tuesday night’s home clash against Dutch giants Ajax will be too soon for the 28-year-old to make his home ‘debut’.

Whittaker’s woes apart, it is the free-scoring form of Vaughan that is coming to the fore this summer.

His latest strike came four minutes from the end of yesterday’s contest as he teamed up with fellow second-half substitute Holt to put the game beyond the reach of Posh.

With the likes of both Robert Snodgrass and Jacob Butterfield yet to be factored into the manager’s thinking, the ‘old guard’ of Holt, Morison and Vaughan are certainly staking an early claim for that Fulham (a) gig.

“I would have thought if you were Peterborough, the last thing you want at that stage of the game is to see a player come on that plays on the shoulder and has a bit of pace about him [Vaughan],” Hughton told the club’s official website afterwards, as the strike pair arrived amongst a clutch of 66th minute substitutions.

And made their mark before the end.

“It was a good combination between the two front players for the second and a good time to score the goal,” added Hughton.

  14. Vaughan looked promising at Everton but I think injuries have stopped him progressing too much since. he has spent an awful lot of time out on loan which isn’t a great sign.

His asset is pace – think he was a top sprinter as a kid. Not the six foot plus “head them in” type I was looking for.

He rots the soul of a club—he works secretly…he infects the masonic politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared…….” And of course it is Dazzle that I speak of, he is the Judas in our midst. Dalziel- after Listening to Radio Taig and GD as an ex ger is a disgrace agreeing with everything all the taigs are spouting and not once has he stood up for The Rangers. I hate him more than Steely Dan and green top semi skimmed milk…which I will never allow to touch my lips on pain of death…I can only hope with all the sincerity of my heart that he and all the geneology of his seed are met with a plague and a famine of locusts

Old Pals act to Deliver Historical Successive Promotions

    By Keith Jackson

PAUL GASCOIGNE has admitted that he could make a sensational return to action as a Rangers assistant player manager by the end of next month – but only in an emergency.

The living legend was seeing a specialist this week to review the operation he had on a serious neck injury less than a month ago.

Gascoigne has been training quietly in Dubai since Charles Greens consortium’s takeover at The Rangers but is keen to get his boots on and play a role to help his former club.

“I was told by the doctor after my operation not to lift anything heavier than a coffee cup. But I’ve been doing a little bit more than that, especially in Dubai” said the former England midfield maestro, whose latest operation was the 29th of his career.

“It is a month now and I will go to see the specialist and he’ll tell me what I can do with regards to football- wise, training-wise.

“It’ll be nice to join in with Ally and the players. But in my situation I won’t be able to play for another two months anyway.

“That leaves a few months until the end of the season. But if Ally’s players are good enough then there’s no need for me to play. I will just manage and assist. He will probably use myself only in an emergency. I’ve seen the players in this league on Sunday but I can look after myself.”

Off-field matters are also taking shape and Gazza, who paid tribute to The Rangers CEO Charles Green, added: “There are not many men who have told John Brown that he´s a quivering big pansy to his face and lived to talk about it. If I can help sell season tickets and talk about 9 in a row then I will do so.”

“It’s coming together now, although it has been non-stop. Ally hasn’t stopped for over a month. I haven’t been here so long and he had most of it in hand before I got here.

“Walter Smith did tell us that management would be tough. I said ‘yeah, yeah’ but he will be right. I suppose if you walked into a top Premiership club you’ve got all this ready for you. But here I’m looking at everything at the moment.

“The only peace I get is on a Saturday for 90 minutes with my players.”

Gascoigne has been busy drawing up early plans to take the Rangers squad early in the new year and next week sees the newly-formed The Rangers reserve team play their first friendly charity match against Stafford Rangers woman team on Wednesday. Tickets are on sale 35 pounds each with 50% going to a chosen charity.

Neil Lennon says he found it ‘quite funny’ that Charles Green put the demise of Rangers down to ‘bigotry’ within Scottish football.

Before Sunday’s Ramsdens Cup extra-time win over Brechin at Glebe Park, the Rangers chief executive suggested that the reason the Ibrox club were denied entry into the Scottish Premier League and voted into the Third Division by clubs in the Scottish Football League was down to bigotry and jealousy.

However, speaking at Lennoxtown ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League qualifier against HJK Helsinki at Parkhead, the Celtic boss was withering in his response to Green’s remarks.

He said: “The club have said that it is not worthy of response, so..

“I was golfing, I only read about it yesterday and I found it quite funny.

    Rivalry

“He has only been here five minutes and he is calling us all bigots already.”

Lennon, who is sweating on the fitness of Kris Commons and Anthony Stokes as they try to shake off their respective ankle injuries, was asked if he still saw Rangers as his rivals.

“Not this season, no dont be silly,” he said.

“The remit is to win the title and it will be no different whether they are here or not and if we can advance on the European stage all the better.”

Apologies for the delay in replying to your post, but we had a very busy lunch service – 88 covers no less at €25 a pop: that’s what, €1200?! Hope Hectorio isn’t lurking! Then I had to nip out the back and feed the left-overs to those bloody stray dogs (ach, a’ love them really!), while Luigi serenaded them on the accordion! The man is wasted as a dish-washer, I tell you! You should hear him belting out those old Miitle European polka classics: it often brings a tear to my glass eye! And when he starts on those conjunto/tex-mex numbers, the dugs go f****n mental! Not to to mention the occassional cajun toe.tapper!

We understand from SSN, that Celtic have made an official approach for Vaughan, on season long loan. I hope that the reply will be nothing doing.

If Vaughan is given a clear indication that he will be given a chance to form good partnerships with his fellow strikers and enjoy regular Premier League action, he is unlikely to want to make the move to Celtic.
