Last act of Ogilvie should be to call inquiry

901

The hours immediately after the First Tier Tribunal reports on Rangers use of Employee Benefits Trusts, which the BBC discovered is due this month, to loan money (!) to staff what happens at Hampden will be most interesting.  SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie, as a director, was legally responsible for Rangers when they started using EBTs and benefited from one himself but he has refused to resign and the SFA have declined to put him on gardening leave, pending a public investigation.

Instead, SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, told press the Association had investigated Ogilvie’s contribution to the matter and found he had no case to answer, despite widespread scepticism that any investigation whatsoever was held into the president’s involvement in the issue.

If, despite protests from former Rangers directors that the club acted properly at all times, the FTT upholds the position of HMRC, that Rangers incorrectly failed to pay £94m tax, Ogilvie will surely walk (away), as the SFA will have to instigate disciplinary proceedings on the club which inherited Rangers membership, for deeds done while the president was in an executive position at Ibrox.

Even our new friend Charles Green would find it unpalatable that a man responsible for the subsequent penalty remains in charge of the body imposing the penalty.  We’ve said “Ogilvie will surely walk” before, of course, only to witness ever-higher standards of brass neck, but if he pauses for an hour before resigning, let it be to give those of us on the outside of the game what is needed, a full and independent inquiry into the game, how it is administered and controlled. Before the year is out we are likely to learn that our game was violated for more than a decade by people at the very top. A charlatan was expelled from the game earlier this year while the owner of a new club, without financial track record, is trying to raise millions from fans.

In any other European country, even Italy, the inquiry would already be under way.

  1. Awe Naw, had another look at your excellent list of questions and noticed that there is nothing asked regarding the “Five way Agreement”.

“What is the five way agreement between SevcO, Rangers, SFL, SFA & SPL, what is in the detail”

Were other clubs privy to this agreement?

Did part of it involve The Rangers receiving TV payments as part of this deal?

Were these payments taken from current members leading to the reduction already shown by Hearts inability to pay players on time??

    Makes sense to me.

Paul – if there’s no public enquiry into the misappropriation of so much taxpayers money, then it will tell us all we need to know about Salmond’s administration.

Ogilvie has no shame. But he is on borrowed time and I’m sure he knows that more than anyone.

If Scotland votes for independence won’t every public body be like the SFA?

  10. RCO, the man with no shame, will not resign, certainly not before Lord Nimmo Smiths judgement.

When the titles are stripped he will go and then we will all be able to read his serialisation and defence of oldco in the Daily Record.

  11. Don’t know how Ogilvie can call for an independent enquiry into his own actions, I think the governing body would have to hold this enquiry and in this case that would be UEFA and FIFA.

The extent and the limitations, like the previous one into Whytes behaviour, will never be made known, and although a verdict maybe published it also will be whitewashed to omit key players. Remember these improperly registered players also played in Europe and for national associations.

I often wonder if the likes of Gow or Cornelius Graham actually realise their shoddy efforts at serious writing can’t be detracted once they hit the internet.

The drivel they come out with is beyond parody but great for the rest of us to look back on when they change their tune.

  15. Someone asked earlier about an app to watch Flash video on a mobile device that does not support such ; a few months ago a CQNer directed me to an app called ‘Swifter’ which resolved that issue.

I know there are ways of ‘unlocking’ devices and/or linking via ‘the cloud’ a p.c. and a mobile device, but these things are beyond me and/or way too fiddly.

‘Swifter’ has been a reasonable solution for a couple of quid.

The five-way agreement will be kept under wraps as it sounds like some kinda masonic bollox to me…..you know the kind of tripe and nonsense that lot of mentally challenged klan wannabes love to play at with their vainglorious caperings and nods & winks as they jauntily brogue across their chequerboard tiles, mincing lambwards towards their blindfolded and trouser-legged secret windows of opportunity.

Scotland should hang its head in shame because Ogilvie is still in position, its supposed to be OUR national SPORT not an an extension of the Scottish Masonic ego which has been found rigging the game over a superiority complex that seeks to keep the culture of Celtic F.C below it.

    Lol :) Brilliant

  21. If C.O. actually had any honour whatsoever he would hoist himself on his own petard, fall on his sword, through himself off a cliff and launch himself into the fiery abyss.

That would be the solution in A Game of Thrones.

He should at least resign, and go to jail for a suitable length of time.

Okay, he should resign, apologise, and pay the tax he owes.

Alright, he should resign and shrug his shoulders.

    He should resign.

    Oh well….he can stay.

  22. If Ogilvie walks without getting his collar felt, Nancy Regan will just be a continuation of the corruption that has blighted our game for decades.

Nancy had his chance when this whole thing started but no he didn’t having the necessary nuts and bolts to make the tough decision so we are left with an omnishambles running our game.

I have no faith in the SFA and see no way to reform it without a complete clearout including the skeltons in the cupboards…

Tear it down make it new…

  23. Great piece Paul, although I don’t agree with your header. I don’t want him to have anything to do with how this saga moves on.

Hopefully the FTT will publish a framework that will allow an independent body/person to put the game on the right footing and start any proceedings against those in power who have been ‘compromised’.

CO should have no say in what transpires.
