Last act of Ogilvie should be to call inquiry

901

The hours immediately after the First Tier Tribunal reports on Rangers use of Employee Benefits Trusts, which the BBC discovered is due this month, to loan money (!) to staff what happens at Hampden will be most interesting.  SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie, as a director, was legally responsible for Rangers when they started using EBTs and benefited from one himself but he has refused to resign and the SFA have declined to put him on gardening leave, pending a public investigation.

Instead, SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, told press the Association had investigated Ogilvie’s contribution to the matter and found he had no case to answer, despite widespread scepticism that any investigation whatsoever was held into the president’s involvement in the issue.

If, despite protests from former Rangers directors that the club acted properly at all times, the FTT upholds the position of HMRC, that Rangers incorrectly failed to pay £94m tax, Ogilvie will surely walk (away), as the SFA will have to instigate disciplinary proceedings on the club which inherited Rangers membership, for deeds done while the president was in an executive position at Ibrox.

Even our new friend Charles Green would find it unpalatable that a man responsible for the subsequent penalty remains in charge of the body imposing the penalty.  We’ve said “Ogilvie will surely walk” before, of course, only to witness ever-higher standards of brass neck, but if he pauses for an hour before resigning, let it be to give those of us on the outside of the game what is needed, a full and independent inquiry into the game, how it is administered and controlled. Before the year is out we are likely to learn that our game was violated for more than a decade by people at the very top. A charlatan was expelled from the game earlier this year while the owner of a new club, without financial track record, is trying to raise millions from fans.

In any other European country, even Italy, the inquiry would already be under way.

  1. Good news on little Oscar. Keep fighting, wee fella.

on Barca: NEVER chase them. Keep your mental discipline, hold your deep position, let them come onto you, pick them off and break.

Sounds simple but it’s the most difficult thing to execture – you need to be absolutely switched on every second and have great spatail awareness going onto as they float around the park.

Failing that, put the boot into the Argentine Oompah-Loompah ;))

If we pull of a couple of draws or even a sneaky win and a defeat, 2 or 3 points will be fantastic.

  2. “Before the year is out we are likely to learn that our game was violated for more than a decade by people at the very top”

Paul. Would you care to expand on that statement? Who and what organisation they worked for in particular?

  4. paul67,

if as you seem to think that the sfa are corrupt then why do you

not call for our club to withdraw from all competitions, i include the champions league as its the sfa who nominate us,

or is the money on offer to great to speak up for the truth?

by competing under the auspices of the so called governing body

we are complicit in allowing this corrupted and farcical body

to have legitimacy, some may not like this but it is the truth.

Imagine the thought of Duffield stuttering in front of an Independent Inquiry about his role as an agent and SFA Chief Executive in this mess. I’d pay a premium to watch that live.

  6. If the judgement will be announced in October and the club get 7 days grace before disclosure then the date will be next Thursday latest.

  7. miki67 – …at with their vainglorious caperings and nods & winks as they jauntily brogue across their chequerboard tiles, mincing lambwards towards their blindfolded and trouser-legged secret windows of opportunity.

Should all the staff at RBS have quit their jobs after the banking crisis too?

We are victims in all of this. We should stay and have in say in claeaning the mess up and making it better and fairer for everyone.

    Burghbhoy said

“When the titles are stripped he will go and then we will all be able to read his serialisation and defence of oldco in the Daily Record.”

Nail on the head – he will then be paid for more misleading, and muddying of waters.

We have all recently heard the various national bodies lobbying against the MP who allegedly called the Polis- plebs and the amount of publicity generated on that particular scandal. A mere trifle of misbehaviour when compared to Campbell Ogilivies actions.

It’s amazing that Campbell Ogilvie’s role in all this does not raise any eyebrows whatsoever in MSM land. The uncle tims, who take the MSM pound, should be examining their role in this matter. Virtually every single member of the MSM has already been tarnished, (or is tainted a more relevant word?) already because of their denial of rangers bankruptcy when it was staring them in the face and their subsequent support in favour of the various failed SFA/SFL/SPL behind the scenes shenanigans to mininmise any damage to Rangers/sevco

In the face of overwhelming public opinion

It seems that none of the MSM want to talk about:

Graeme Souness 30,000 quid payment either

    Sevco/broken history

    Charles Green/Ticketus/Craig Whyte

    Sevco cash flow

Potential consumer risks to Sevco share issue

I wonder why these points are not deemed worthy topics?

(Send your answers please to daily record sport section editor, because in timternet we all know the answer. It’s the same answer to the question about why Neil Lennon was roundly demonised by all sections of the Scottish media)

When compared to media coverage of a previous Celtic leader, in times of trouble, they seem very lenient. I seem to recall a certain Fergus McCann being compared to Saddam Hussein on the front pages, and a less than flattering story of him walking his new born kid in pram after he left Glasgow and returned to U.S.

That’s the thing aboot zombies- ye just cannae gie them a brass neck, so ye cannae.

Is there any indication of whether a date will be announced for the result or if news will just start to filter through that a decision has been made in the case?

  12. Might Mouse Messi zippin’ around the park like he’s got a rocket attached to his posterior……slaaaams into the man-wall that is Big Vic……spins around on the ground, leaps to his feet and starts raving incomprehensibly at anyone who’ll listen to him in his mangled outrage, the ref ignores his primadonna ballerina wheedling, and waves the game on; Big Vic looks at Messi, raises one eyebrow as if to say, “Wanna try that one more time?”

  13. Paul67

Bit of a ‘cheap shot’ there at the expense of Italy! :-)

You are quite right ‘tho – an enquiry would already be under way: but the findings would not be made public until about 2022!

  17. Just_a_Bhoys_game,

well it might just bring about a proper exposure on what has really been going on by the so called authorities, or is it to comfortable for some to risk?my point is if we honestly believe that we have been cheated for years then why to hell do we legitimise it by being part of it?remember its just my opinion.

  18. tommytwiststommyturns on

danso – as someone far wiser than me posted on here…”there’s no such thing as sporting integrity. There’s only integrity and you’ve either got it or you don’t.”

Just in case you missed what’s been happening, we’re the main victims in the biggest scandal EVER in British sporting history.

We’re not the ones who have been cheating. We have integrity….in spades!

You’re aiming at the wrong target….why is that?!

  19. Just_a_Bhoys_game on

No danso, the only thing it would achieve would be to damage our club TODAY. We were not aware of the level of cheating going on until relatively recently, we are not ‘legitimising’ anything. Should ALL SPL clubs take your suggested course of action too?

IMO your suggestion is premature and would be potentially disastrous.

I love sittin’ in the harbour in Pittenweem eating a fish supper. I love the anticipation of a pint in the Kingshouse as I am lookin’ doon at it from the top of Buachaille etive mor and I cry everytime I return to Parkhead and recall the wonderful memories of the players and the departed folks that i shared the great times with.

I have found it possible to love my country, without the need to argue and fight over it’s politics.

I agree with MWD earlier, that these pages may become compromised with a deluge of Independence debaters and would hope that it all calms down soon.

However,I wouldn’t rule out that this “Independence hysteria” may be a tool for quietly dealing with the other little matter involving the fabric of our society FC.

  21. tommytwiststommyturns,

they have openly got away with millions on unpaid taxes right?

they still play out of ibrox which should have been confiscated

it was not, we still have a governing body that helped them as

best it could at every turn for god knows how long with a former director of said club totally in cahoots now president of the same governing body, so when do we finally do somthing?

  22. Wee Chick said Ogilvie’s EBT “was just about enough for a good night out in Glasgow…”,this was after Ogilvie told him that he didn’t have an EBT.Aprons together.
